Books that just didn't work as films......

The Hobbit was a book I loved as a child. When Jackson made the film, it just didn't do it justice IMO. Overused CGI, long dragging scenes...we gave up after the first hour and that was that.

I loved the stage version-that was very well done. And the scary bits of the film were good but it had a happy(ish) ending which was totally at odds with the book.

The Remains of the Day, despite the best efforts of Anthony Hopkins.
