Scariest film you’ve seen

What has been the scariest movie you’ve ever seen, one that freaks you out, even years later?

I still remember seeing the original When a Stranger Calls & Sleeping With The Enemy. Psychological thrillers scare me more than horror or gore. The building of suspense.

The Woman in Black....Have watched it twice and jumped out my skin both times!!

For me it was The Road.
Post-apocalyptic breakdown of society. Cannibalism, vagrancy and a scrabble for dwindling resources.
Do not watch it, especially in lockdown.

home invasion films freak me out the most. stuff like the strangers, hush, funny games. since i was about 15 i’ve had recurring nightmares about living in a house in the middle of nowhere that’s open plan and has lots of big glass windows and there’s someone trying to break in and i have to find somewhere to hide. funnily enough they started just after i’d watched the new version of when a stranger calls - i couldn’t babysit for months after! i also find psychological films more scary - although when i was younger if i watched a paranormal horror film i’d have to hide the dvd case in another room just in case it somehow opened a portal to allow ghosts to come into my house 😂

Blair Witch scsred the living shit out of me.

Paranormal Activity
scared the shit out of me. I had to switch it off and sleep with the lights on for a week.

The Haunting of Hill House too (TV programme not a film though). My husband made me go out with him with the dog when we'd been watching it because he was too scared to go alone.

The Babadook just made me laugh though, it was so stupid. Put me in a deserted house in the woods at midnight and I still wouldn't find it scary.

I came on here to say 'Blair Witch' too! I avoid scary things now, too much scary real life going on.

@Sgtmajormummy Oh God that movie was the most depressing and thing ever. I watched it not knowing much about it and I was traumatised. I thought about it for days after.

Chucky! I dont know why but horror movies with dolls give me the creeps!

The orphanage (Spanish film, in general Spanish horror films tend to particularly freaky) and also the woman in black (more so once I had children).

The orphan. I try to avoid horror wherever possible. It scared me to death.

Blair Witch and Eden Lake.

@Jeleste that’s just reminded me that the child’s play reboot dropped on netflix today, so i’m getting up to watch it now before the kids wake up haha!

Mirrors with Kiefer Sutherland. Couldn't stop thinking about it for ages

When I was a wee child in the 60s I lived in a small village with only one cinema. Each film played for 3 weeks straight so there wasn't any choice. For some reason my dad decided to treat me to a film...that film was PSYCHO. by Alfred Hitchcock. I still to this day swear that I saw red blood mixed with water swirling round the shower drain..eventhough the film was in Black and White. I also still feel slightly anxious when taking a shower in a hotel room
Talk about psychological thriller 😳
The second film was in the late 70s...it was Halloween..

the music was so suspenseful that I had to plug my fingers in my ears and not watch the screen. Some people were so freaked that they ran out of the theatre. Some did peep through the windows in the doors, though, but didn't come back in until the scary music stopped 🤣. It's a wonder my fingers didn't go through to my brain as I was squishing them in so hard. 🙀

The Orphanage for me too. Not only terrifying, but so heartbreaking, The combination of the two traumatised me for years!

A Serbian film made me sick!!!
I love gore movies like saw and hostel etc
Ones that scare me are the jumpy ones. Not sure why as it's not too scary but drag me to hell had me screaming loud!!
I enjoy horror films though. Although they play on my mind for a bit after.

Sinister is hands down the scariest

For me it was the first Paranormal Activity film.

Jesus christ! Just googled a Serbian film and can't believe such a thing exists!? I have no words.

@AnduinsGirl I know! I didn't realise the extent of the horror as someone asked if I had seen it. I WOULDN'T recommend anyone watch it! It's fucked up and whoever wrote the film etc is messed up too!!!

Lots of good horror on prime but you have to spend a while filtering the crap first.
Wolf creek is very scary as are lots of those Australian movies.
Hill. House was really scary I think number 2 is on the way too.

Scariest for me was the first 'Insidious' film.

Most upsetting was Eden Lake. I had to stop watching halfway through.

Eden Lake is horrific...because it could easily happen!

The babadook is not so much scary but it gets under your skin. It grinds at you in a really horrible way.

Hereditary is batshit crazy and freak as f**k.

Eden Lake was scary because it could easily actually happen.

Sinister and The Orphan were both really creepy. I also like all the James Wan films like The Conjuring, The Nun and Annabelle.

The Visit was scary and made me jump a lot.

Blair Witch (the latest one that was at the cinema in 2016) was creepy.

Silence of the lamb. I was actually shaking.
