I'm really excited to see this. Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in the same film - what more could a girl want Grin
Anyone else going to see it?

OP posts:

The songs are addictive i have been you tubing them all day particularly This is me which i wailed belted out as i was tidying up earlier.

Figgygal · 11/01/2018 19:22

I've streamed it on Spotify and bought the soundtrack

Anyone seen the video of HJ singing from now on at the studio green light session? He's just had 80 stitches in his nose and told not to sing but he just can't stop himself it's brilliant

I even watched les miserables yesterday for a hugh fix no wonder it won the oscar for best make op he's unrecognisable at times

ShoeJunkie · 14/01/2018 09:56

Saw it last night - loved it!

Lilliepixie · 14/01/2018 10:51

Saw it again yesterday, even better second time round, lots of bits I missed!

Tipsntoes · 14/01/2018 11:04

I wasn't expecting a proper biography and the film was entertaining enough, but the actual real story would have made a better film imo

Dolceandgabbana14 · 14/01/2018 11:27

I'm not really a cinema person but this sounds fab and the trailer caught my eye. Would it be suitable for an 8 year old girl? I'm assuming it's a no for a for year old boy!

Dolceandgabbana14 · 14/01/2018 11:28

Four, blooming auto correct!

MrsJayy · 14/01/2018 11:31

Yes it is fab totally suitible for an 8 year old I think the 4 year old would be bored I think

MrsJayy · 14/01/2018 11:32

I think it would be too long, is what i meant to say

DearShirt · 14/01/2018 11:36

Figgygal my four year old loved it - don't be so judgemental!

Dolceandgabbana14 · 14/01/2018 11:54

My four year old is struggling to sit through My Little Pony at the kids club, so I doubt he'd manage a two hour film! DD7 would be okay though, she was fine for Beauty and the Beast. Thanks for replies, will book tickets!

JuneFromBethesda · 14/01/2018 15:49

Just back from seeing it with my 6 & 8yo daughters. We all loved it. Just the thing for a gloomy January weekend, a treat for the eyes and ears. Hugh Jackman is a true movie star - he steals every scene he's in.

EvilTwins · 14/01/2018 16:03

I really enjoyed it, as did my DDs.

The real story would have made a very different sort of film. For a start, he was much much older when he got into the circus business, and his children (four of them) were pretty much grown up. And he was a bit of an arse - exploited people rather than gave them an opportunity to show themselves for who they were. His first “act” was an elderly black woman, who was a slave he “rented” for a year. He claimed she was 161 years old and had been George Washington’s nursemaid. He also took on Tom Thumb as a a 4 year old and had him touring by the age of 5.

That said, I loved the film for what it was. My only gripe was the casting of Jenny Lind - Rebecca Ferguson is great and very beautiful but why not cast someone who can sing? It’s not like beautiful actresses who sing don’t exist.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/01/2018 16:10

Same WeaselsRising Blush

But I loved it! Been listening to the soundtrack for days and can’t wait to take the DC to see it.

I hated la la land. Couldn’t finish it. It was soooooo boring.

Loved everything about Showman though.

MrsJayy · 14/01/2018 16:15

I also hated Lalaland it was a smuggy mcsmug film Emma stones face bothered me

Redisthemagicolour · 14/01/2018 16:38

I'm going later. With dd1 who is seeing it for the second time and dd2. I'm told I will love it. Everyone who has seen it says it's really good.

MrsJayy · 14/01/2018 17:18

You will love it . Im going again next week when dd1 is on annual leave

applelolly · 14/01/2018 21:43

saw it Saturday - absolutely amazing. went with dd1 (18) and dd2(15) who both loved it. Really want to see it again! have already downloaded the soundtrack on spotify!

8misskitty8 · 14/01/2018 23:30

Saw it this weekend with dd2, we both loved it. The songs are really catchy.

Someone mentioned the actors not doing their own singing further up thread. Only Rebecca Ferguson was dubbed and the boy playing the young Barnum. The rest all did their own singing including Zach Efron. (He was only dubbed in the first HSM I believe. He definetly sung in hairspray)
Opening song was my favourite but the Stand out performance was the actress playing the bearded lady, - what a voice.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/01/2018 23:03

Just left the cinema. Loved loved loved it.

And cried my eyes out through This Is Me by Keala Settle

Intelinside · 16/01/2018 23:05

It is one of the worst films I've ever seen. And I love musicals.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/01/2018 00:06

Nooooo, why???

MrsJayy · 17/01/2018 11:18

Ah no intelinside why

BishBoshBashBop · 17/01/2018 11:21

Absolutely loved it.

Completely different league to la is land, which I hated.

BishBoshBashBop · 17/01/2018 11:21

*la la land
