am on the hunt for 'lovely films' after watching Steve Martin's Shopgirl at the weekend

they must be
a) lovely to look at
b) intelligent
c) not miserable

am trying to cheer self up with nice films after too much CSI so any suggestions much appreciated

but anyone who mentions The English Patient will have their Maltesers confiscated as it is a huge pile of wank

Oooh just watched man with two brains again the other week. Am now stuck singing "I love-a you and you love-a me" in my head.

Just thought, another rainy day/ironing film I embarrassingly put on - My Fair Lady.

The Man who sued God,
Strictly ballroom,
Memoirs of geisha (maybe not the happiest but very beautiful)
and my all time favorite; Breakfast at Tiffanys.

bundle · 23/01/2007 12:07

oh gosh yes strictly ballroom is ever so good, with lots of subtexts..

I love Parenthood even though it is utterly marshmallowy in places
Franca, I am a pushover for even his rubbishest films too He is gorgeous
Trains Planes and Automobiles anyone?

Marina · 23/01/2007 12:08

And while we are on the subject of high Australian camp, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is cute

Cappuccino · 23/01/2007 12:08

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 23/01/2007 12:10

Parenthood makes me PMSL every time ("electric ear cleaner"! ) but didn't want to say so as I thought it was mentioned derisively!

Enid · 23/01/2007 12:11

he was delighted when dd3 showed a predeliction for 'butting things with her head'

what's the english title of HIS movie in b/w when he enters different films... lets start a steve martin fans club.
Must confess I haven't watched shopgirl yet. Actually must confess that before children I used to go to the movies at least once a week and now it's once a year. well maybe twice.

Marina · 23/01/2007 12:15

pointy birds...I wondered if it was a homage to Dr Huhhfrrr's "poetry"...

bundle · 23/01/2007 12:15

must be all that Jane Austen we've read Marina

speaking of which..dh saw a preview of Notes on a Scandal and he really enjoyed it, wants to take me (he never usually watches anything twice)

Marina · 23/01/2007 12:16
