I watched Cocktail last night for....reasons mostly involving Bryan Brown please don't judge me

The scene where Tom Cruise makes an entire bar of people listen to him wang on about cocktails in poem form forced me to hide behind a cushion as I was cringing so much. PARTICULARLY when he said the word "snazzy" in what I assume is meant to be a posh English accent at which point I had to leave the room.

The cringiest line in the cringe-fest which is Love Actually.

That bit in Love Actually when the woman with the dark bob at the Ad Agency (Mia?) propositions Alan Rickman by flapping open her legs at him in the open plan office, sitting on her swively chair.

That really makes me cringe! I mean as if you would swing your thighs apart at your MARRIED BOSS while discussing the venue of the Christmas party!!

Ah strawberry you beat me to it, that line gets me every time! She's so bad all the way through the film but that clinches it. Although how you would deliver that line and it not sound cringey I don't know..

Lots of scenes in Bridges of Madison County, especially if the scene involved Clint Eastwood crying. I saw it when I was about 14 with my mum though so perhaps would feel different about it now!

Well if we're going to move on to Love Actually - Hugh Grant dancing - just no, no and thrice no. I physically can't bear to watch it, I go red and hide with embarrassment. I'm so scundered for the whole thing

All of Love Actually. And the bit at the end of Four Weddings when Andie McDowell asks if it's still raining as she hadn't noticed.

The various bits in Notting Hill when we're supposed to be pitying Julia Roberts for the loneliness and unwanted publicity of her starry life, when in fact she behaves incredibly badly to Hugh Grant's harmless character, who takes her in, gives her his bed, listens to her run her crappy sci-fi lines and moan about her bad decisions in her whiny 'me me me' way, and then attacks him when the press show up, when it's not remotely his fault. And never contacts him again for a year. Pretty bad form. And the worst bit is the firm doesn't appear to think he's a sap for putting up with it, it seems to think that's normal film star behaviour, and he's the lucky one.

If she showed up in a cheap-looking twinset in my bookshop with a Matisse (Miro?) and squeaked adorably about just being a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her, I'd have pelted her with heavy volumes about mountaineering.

What a lot of Richard Curtiss films are on this thread.

Can I also add the bit in the first SATC film where Carrie runs out in the snow on NYE to get to Miranda. She has a little sequin hat on and sort of gazes up at the snow beatifically then does this very affected prancy little run along the street.

It sounds unfair but it really made me cringe.

The bit in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (already a complete cringe fest, but this bit is just soooo awful) where Evil Sheriff Alan is just about to marry Mary Elizabeth Mastrantoninoninononono and she shrieks "ROOOBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN" at the top of her voice.

Also the bit in Love Actually when Andrew Lincoln turns up on Keira Knightley's doorstep to declare his undying and unrequited love in the form of cue cards and a tape recorder playing christmas carols. It's so wrong. She's married! To his friend! And instead of slamming the door, she bloody stands there simpering at him. It's awful. I cringe for both of them.

All of Love Actually and Notting Hill. I don't how anyone watched those all the way through. I even tried to do it stoned to see if there were any comedic value I was missing. Nope. Shitty shite.

A bit of a blast from the past, but a film called Born Yesterday had a really cringy bit. They make a whole restaurant listen while Melanie Griffith and chums sing a song about the US Constitution. Erk.

Also not a film, but the whole Nicole Kidman "I love to dance" perfume ad nonsense make me cringe.

Watched Vanilla Sky again the other days and there's just too much to choose from.
She's the saddest girl to ever hold a martini comes out on top though.

2012 where the little girl ends the movie by saying 'Daddy, now I don't need pull-ups anymore' or something like that. I mean, if you like disaster movies you learn to keep the bar for bullshit and cheese fairly bloody high but ffs what the fuck were they playing at?

All of Dirty Dancing.

The end of Officer and a Gentleman when Richard Gere strides into the factory and "rescues" what's her name by sweeping her up & carrying her out to a new life, and all of the other factory workers applaud and get wistfully teary-eyed. Makes me want to fling something at the TV screen.

Harrison Ford. For such an action hero, he always looks about to cry or whimper.
