Moments in films that make you CRINGE

I watched Cocktail last night for....reasons mostly involving Bryan Brown please don't judge me

The scene where Tom Cruise makes an entire bar of people listen to him wang on about cocktails in poem form forced me to hide behind a cushion as I was cringing so much. PARTICULARLY when he said the word "snazzy" in what I assume is meant to be a posh English accent Hmm at which point I had to leave the room.

Hit me with your other cringe moments in film!

The scene in Dirty Dancing just after baby carries a watermelon, where Johnny beckons her over and teaches her some moves....have cringed at that scene since I was a kid despite it being my all time fave film, literally can't watch that scene 🙈

ShesAStar · 24/11/2015 19:02

As a child I wanted the ground to swallow me in Pretty Woman when Vivienne goes downstairs to find Richard and he asks everyone to leave the room and then he sits her on the piano and feels her up. I watched that with my mum and aunt when I was about 12 - it was unbearable.

TooOldForGlitter · 24/11/2015 19:08

Laughing my head off at the ROBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN reference. I used to have to fast forward through that but of the film because it was too cringey. Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 24/11/2015 19:09

*bit

MrsMolesworth · 24/11/2015 19:15

All of SATC 1 but especially the bit where Carrie stops on the stairs of some pretty building and gawps at its eligibility to be her wedding venue. Squirmed at how shamelessly the film tried to suggest that women can't fill their pretty heads with anything but catching a man. I was hissing: 'focus you dozy mare, you're supposed to be at work' at her. Loathe SATC.

Most scenes involving science. And labs with lots of coloured liquids. It just doesn't happen.
And people doing forensics with long hairs falling down their faces onto the scene and the reaction tubes.

Although I love them.

TheSpottedZebra · 24/11/2015 19:20

Shock livs dear god, the beckoning

BettyRooster · 24/11/2015 19:22

Any scene involving sex and Michael Douglas.

Melawen · 24/11/2015 19:22

I actually love that Stop the clocks moment in FWAAF. But otherwise I have a very highly tuned cringe radar and just cannot bear to watch slapstick. I've been known to leave the room when it looks like a character is about to make a fool of themselves. But cannot actually think of a particular moment right now!!

CuffsAndCollar · 24/11/2015 19:24

I don't love Andi MacDowell (sp?) in Four Weddings but I don't get the problem with that line specifically.

Avalon2 · 24/11/2015 19:26

Love that so many people picking 4 weddings.
Years ago at Christmas my family all settled down to watch it. Basically any scene with Andy McDowell is worthy of full on cringe.
My brother said it should be renamed ' how Andy McDowell ruined 4 weddings and caused a funeral'

TSSDNCOP · 24/11/2015 19:27

All of Mama Mia.

The scene in Top Gun where McGillis says share couldn't say Cruises flying was the best she'd ever seen because then everyone would know she'd fallen for him. Notwithstanding the fact that she couldn't stand him in real life, this was an especially low point in convincing acting.

NoelHeadbands · 24/11/2015 19:28

Michael Douglas sexy dancing in a beige jumper in Basic Instinct

Jackiebrambles · 24/11/2015 19:31

Jude law, jack black, Winslet and Diaz dancing around at the end of The Holiday. It's the most supremely awful cringy dancing I've ever seen.

PseudoBadger · 24/11/2015 19:32

Dirty Dancing - the worst bit is when Patrick S dances through the corridor of seated people at the end.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/11/2015 19:35

Oh God I love Dirty Dancing, though. It literally got me through puberty.

atticusclaw2 · 24/11/2015 19:36

Every single line delivered by Andie McDowell in four weddings. The worst ever casting of a leading lady, she cannot deliver a line to save her life.

Love Nottingham Hill though. Plus I'll happily sit through Love Actually over and over.

atticusclaw2 · 24/11/2015 19:36

Particularly

"Oh I think we both know that's a big lie."

Littledafty · 24/11/2015 19:36

Avalon, I snorted when I read that. Perfect new name for 4 weddings!

PseudoBadger · 24/11/2015 19:38

What about in Big when adult Tom Hanks does the rap thing with his kid best friend?

maybeanotherdaysoon · 24/11/2015 19:42

When Russell Crowe sings in Les Mis Shock

Devora · 24/11/2015 19:42

BettyRooster - YES. Michael Douglas' sex face is the stuff of nightmares.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 24/11/2015 19:45

I don't love Andi MacDowell (sp?) in Four Weddings but I don't get the problem with that line specifically.

Well, if I remember correctly, she's blinking water out of her eyes as she says the line, so you're left thinking 'Of course you know it's raining you liar'.

The sex scene in Brokeback Mountain makes me cringe. Amazing film. But my DM bought me it as a Christmas present and insisted we watch it together before dinner 'I love westerns!' The sex scene nearly put her into shock Grin 'Oh... I didn't know it would be like that...'

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 24/11/2015 19:48

What about in Big when adult Tom Hanks does the rap thing with his kid best friend?

He redid it recently with James Corden

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 24/11/2015 19:55

Nooo. Brokeback Mountain is just beautiful. It's not cringeworthy, it's stunning.
