I watched Cocktail last night for....reasons mostly involving Bryan Brown please don't judge me

The scene where Tom Cruise makes an entire bar of people listen to him wang on about cocktails in poem form forced me to hide behind a cushion as I was cringing so much. PARTICULARLY when he said the word "snazzy" in what I assume is meant to be a posh English accent Hmm at which point I had to leave the room.

Hit me with your other cringe moments in film!

Thank you so much Cheerful that was driving me crazy not remembering the name. I liked the movie apart from the aerobics scene.

CheerfulYank · 26/11/2015 21:16

That is a bit much. She is an aerobics instructor though. So I assumed she was just doing her thing and they all kind of went along.

Lweji · 26/11/2015 23:59

Lweji do you mean My Fair Lady? Pygmalion the play has a totally different ending.

The film Pygmalion has that ending too. Much older version, in black and white.

Lweji · 27/11/2015 00:03

About the ending.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmalion_(play)#Ending

TBH, I wouldn't call that a "happy ending", as per MN and feminism, a happy ending is Eliza emancipating and tell Higgings to FOTTFSOFAFOSM, not bloody returning to fetch his fucking slippers.

MissAllsorts · 27/11/2015 17:24

Minnie Driver telling the joke in 'Good Will Hunting', i love that film but can't stand her in it.

Trills · 28/11/2015 11:00

I'm not saying that Pretty Woman is EXACTLY the same as either My Fair Lady or Pygmalion, just as they are not exactly the same as each other, but that they are all variants on the same story.

So is She's All That, while we're at it.

I think it might have been called American sweetheart and starred catherine zeta jones. She was called Gwen and was a film star.

Eye wateringly bad!

desertmum · 10/12/2015 19:55

Didn't watch eat love pray but read the book, well part of it as the woman annoyed me so much I threw it away. Was very very disappointed in Julia Roberts taking that role. Sorry, off point a tad.

AJFsmummy · 17/12/2015 00:37

Oh after a shockingly bad day....these have made me giggle.

Here's my top 10 cringe film moments;

  1. The film 'I give it a year' when Rose Byrns character says "everytime I squeeze out a bit of air I'll think of you"
  1. The first sex scene between Hugh and Andi when they are talking about honeymoons etc while at it!!
  1. The bellboy at the elevator in Pretty Woman.
  1. The bit in pretty woman where she talks with her mouth full of pancakes " your folks must be really proud huh?!"
  1. Kate winslets pant/sex face dance on the bed in 'the holiday'
  1. The kitchen dance twist scene in spiderman3 with kirsten and James.
  1. Jack black singing in blockbuster in 'the holiday'
  1. How everybody is wearing a polar/role/turtle neck jumper in 'the holiday'
  1. Hugh grants prime minister America vs Uk speech in 'Love actually'
  1. The whole of the SATC 2
NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 17/12/2015 11:38

The first Harry Potter film:

"Yer a wizard 'Arry"
"I...I...I'm a w..what?"

And Emma Watson's eyebrow acting.

Agree wholeheartedly with cocktail. Can we also include cringe characters from TV? If so it has to be Louisa from Doc Martin?

doc has diagnosed collapsed lung and asks her to fetch a bottle of liquid - she returns to find him about to make an incision "Martin - WHAT are you doing?????" as if to a schoolchild rather than highly trained medical professional. gah

muddymary · 30/12/2015 08:33

YY to blended. The most annoying thing about it was that 'Africa' seemed to be just one country.

"we're going to Africa." "isn't Africa amazing. " where in Africa are you? Egypt? Kenya? South Africa? It's not all one bloody place!

FellOffMyUnicorn · 30/12/2015 09:38

Mama Mia - are we meant to believe that MS had a teenage fling and has a teenage daughter? She was 59! Amada Seigfried was 22(?)

I love MS and shes incredibly talented, but even i couldnt get past that

Terminator Genesis; had to turn it off with Emilia whatsherface calling Arnie 'Pops' - seriously??? unwatchable

AlfieandAnnieRose · 01/01/2016 23:39

Any romantic scene between Harry Potter and Ginny in the films. There's a bit in DH Part1 where Ginny suddenly bends down to tie his shoelace and it's complete silence as she does this. Maybe it was meant to show her caring side for him but it felt really cringy and awkward, why was it even kept in the film?!
And when Ginny turns to Harry with the back of her dress undone and says 'Zip me up will you' in a rather pompous voice, aaah!

laylabelle · 02/01/2016 13:26

Winner takes it all scene in Mama Mia.The awkward look on Pierces face..that and any moment he started singing lol
