I'm watching 'Sense and Sensibility'. It's so lovely. Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant being 'proper' and very intelligent.

OP posts:

Love Labours Lost
Chariots of Fire
Bugsy Malone
Love actually

But my favourite is the already mentioned The Philadelphia Story

Lucked · 18/11/2015 13:37

Has Groundhog Day been mentioned?

Also Only You with Marisa Tomei and RDJ is lovely.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 19/11/2015 21:46

Only You
Anne of Green Gables mini series
Roman Holiday

Muskey · 19/11/2015 21:50

50 first dates, notting hill

BagelSuffragette · 25/11/2015 17:35

Billy Elliott. I can barely see the keyboard now through the tears just thinking about Adam Cooper stretching his neck before leaping onto the stage with his feathery legs.

Oh yes, upaladder just a perfect, sublime moment

Wonderful films mentioned, I love It's a Wonderful Life, Brief Encounter, A Matter of Life and Death, All about Eve, The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Thin Man films with Myrna Loy, The Miracle on 34th Street (original with Edmund Gwenn not the remake), BBC series of Pride and Prejudice (not Keira Knightley), Chariots of Fire, of course.

Really enjoyed Pride, Begin Again, Enough Said, The Station Agent more recently. And Mamma Mia!

Loved the old TV series Shooting the Past with Timothy Spall and Lindsay Duncan.

Cooroo · 27/11/2015 19:15

Lovely thread. Good to see a couple of mentions for the wonderful Station Agent, nothing happens, Peter Dinklage is brilliant. And I Capture the castle. And My Neighbour Totoro.

AimUnder · 27/11/2015 19:46

Marking my place :)

Enasharpleshairnet · 27/11/2015 20:05

This Happy Breed, a David Lean film starring the lovely Celia Johnson.

Enchanted with Any Adams.

aoife24 · 28/11/2015 07:43

Millions by Danny Boyle. Lovely, lovely and full, ultimately, of sweet goodness.

RomComPhooey · 28/11/2015 07:58

I love Roman Holiday, the Station Agent and Stardust, but there's something about the way Holly Hunter's and Nick Cage's devotion shines through in Raising Arizona that warms my cockles.

Toraleistripe · 28/11/2015 08:04

It's a wonderful life of course. Goodbye Mr Chips is lovely but sad. I bawl my eyes out every time. Little Shop Around the Corner with James Stewart which is what You've Got Mail is based on. Love Jimmy Stewart.

Shane.......I love that film.

dementedma · 28/11/2015 08:06

Big
Love Actually
My Fair Lady
Beauty and the Beast

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/11/2015 14:14

Although, makes me a bit wistful that my own DCs would rather play Xbox all day than make wind chimes for elderly neighbours.

YY to loads of these - especially the recent Muppet one and Enchanted April (I never knew there was a book). Also The Amazing Mr Blunden, Born Free and It's Great to be Young. And that one where a very young David Niven plays an airline pilot who gets a second chance at life when the conductor who's meant to lead him to Heaven gets lost in the fog.

Enasharpleshairnet · 28/11/2015 14:27

That's A Matter of Life and Death, mornington.

I love the doctor in that played by Roger Livesey. He also stars in I Know Where I am Going, a romance set on a Scottish island, and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. Both good films IMO.

cranberryjuiced · 28/11/2015 14:31

Song of the Sea

BEEEEAUTIFUL.

DoctorTwo · 28/11/2015 15:34

The first ten minutes of Up! are the most perfect in film. The rest of it ain't bad either.

PerspicaciaTick · 28/11/2015 15:46

I love Amelie and Blades of Glory.

Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility is wonderful, I can't help feeling that Colonel Brandon and Marianne have much better sex once they are married than Edward and Elinor.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/11/2015 15:53

Lots of my favourites here!

But, for a bit of sci-fi with added lovely loveliness:

Coccoon
Starman

FixItUpChappie · 28/11/2015 16:04

here here to Anne of Green Gables

I want to say "Tangled" which literally made me think "this film is just lovely"

Enasharpleshairnet · 28/11/2015 17:25

I bought the Tangled DVD..for the children you understand!Wink

RomComPhooey · 28/11/2015 18:41

Ooh, I recorded Starman a couple of weeks ago as I vaguely remembered enjoying watching it 10+ years ago. Will watch it asap.

Loiterer · 28/11/2015 21:41

Babe.

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/11/2015 22:55

Thanks, Ena, that's the one - and I love the doctor character too. I haven't heard of those other ones you mentioned, but I'll look them up. Blades of Glory reminds me of another favourite, Cool Runnings, which in turn gets me thinking of The King and I.

And Happy Feet.

Crazypetlady · 29/11/2015 01:48
