I'm watching 'Sense and Sensibility'. It's so lovely. Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant being 'proper' and very intelligent.

Untouchable. Hilarious film.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 17/11/2015 09:26

I am a cynical old bag

but the Sound of Music with its fucking relentless positivity and cheer fills me shrivelled heart with joy

Titsywoo · 17/11/2015 09:30

About Time - such a lovely film with lovely characters

123Jump · 17/11/2015 09:31

Strictly Ballroom.
Little Women.

RiverTam · 17/11/2015 09:31

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Gorgeous 1920s setting, lovely fun story, amazing actors. Perfect in every way.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/11/2015 09:35

The Bishops Wife - on my "must watch" list of Christmas films. A sweet story with the added bonus of Cary Grant.

Clawdy · 17/11/2015 09:39

Cinema Paradiso.

Fiderer · 17/11/2015 09:55

The Music Man

I came on to say 'About Time' too. Just a lovely film! So lovely. One of my favourites.

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2015 10:05

Amelie is quite lovely and gentle.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 17/11/2015 10:09

TSOM for sure....who isn't horrified by Rolff and his betrayal, the Countess and her conniving although she realises and Does The Right Thing in the end and the joyous Nuns and their singing!!

My Fair Lady....love love love the grand ball scene

Elf ....now I am probably even more cynical and heart shrivelled than Muddah, but I defy anyone not to feel the joy after seeing it.

arizonamaybe · 17/11/2015 10:15

I second Little Women, although I do start weeping shortly after Beth contracts Scarlet Fever and continue intermittently (but more happily) all the way the final scene. DH has banned me from watching it in his presence.

The Secret Garden, the 1993 adaptation, is admittedly aimed at children but is a beautiful adaptation that leaves me with all the feels.

North & South, the 2003 miniseries with Richard Armitage. That is the loveliest of them all. You might want to take the precautionary measure of having your ovaries covered in a protective layer of adamantium though, just in case...

Also, off the top of my head--

84 Charing Cross Road
My Fair Lady
Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby... really anything involving a combination of Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant.

niminypiminy · 17/11/2015 10:26

The Railway Children
Strictly Ballroom
Clueless
Singing' in the Rain + any Fred and Ginger musical

"Give me an occupation Miss Dashwood, or I shall run mad"

I love Alan Rickman. He's such a beautiful actor, so intense when he's heartsick.

I always love To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything as a film which makes me smile happily at its fabulousness

OnlyLovers · 17/11/2015 11:22

Mary Poppins.

Once.

A Knight's Tale.

Singin' in the Rain.

And YES, Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, all of those. So witty. Such great threads.

OnlyLovers · 17/11/2015 11:23

Oh, also Enchanted and The Muppets (the one from 2011, not the more recent). Both are pitch-perfect and Amy Adams is magnificent in both.

spankhurst · 17/11/2015 11:25

Hugo.

Local Hero.

jennymac · 17/11/2015 14:19

Spent a lovely couple of hours watching An Affair to Remember in front of the fire on Sunday. Set me up well for the rest of the day!

Big

Edeline85 · 17/11/2015 14:28

'Joy Luck Club'. Gorgeous film, gorgeous book.

'Fried Green Tomatoes'

Both have their sad or dark moments, but that just makes the light bits shine all the more brightly.
