Watched Under the Skin with Scarlett Johansson last night with Dh. We knew kind of what was going on, but it was a bit Hmm.
Any other films that baffle?

OP posts:

I loved Tree of Life but found it confusing at first (apparently at our local artsy cinema they played the reels in the wrong order and nobody noticed!) Under the Skin and Birdman - I couldn't get past the weirdness.

The Lobster - bonkers, I hated it (despite loving the idea and the actors) and also had some sort of weird out of mind experience in the middle of it where I wasn't sure where I was (at the cinema) - blaming it on that film!

Nataleejah · 12/02/2016 14:43

Last night i watched Ju-On: White Ghost.
I know Japanese horror is supposed to be weird, but this one was hillarious to the point of hysterical laughter.

TheToys · 12/02/2016 14:51

The Ninth Gate. Wtf?

SlinkyVagabond · 20/03/2016 15:12

Resurrected my own thread. Because it's shite, Get him to the Greek. God it's awful.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 20/03/2016 15:24

Synedoche, New York... Philip Seymour Houffman is an artist who's granted a Genius Grant and decides to put on a play, the scale of which has never been seen before, and the play is his life and the lives of everyone he knows.... I did like it but I'm not sure if I understood it entirely. Certainly once I started reading around it I felt like a lot of it had gone over my head.

oliviaclottedcream · 20/03/2016 17:26

The Lady from Shanghai was a total baffler... Lots of memorable imagery though

oliviaclottedcream · 20/03/2016 17:28

Oblivion I followed for about 15 mins.
Jackie Brown was unnecessarily complicated too I thought.

noddingoff · 21/03/2016 20:20

Punch drunk love was a load of toss.

CallousAndStrange · 22/03/2016 21:03

Life aquatic definitely, especially as reviews said how funny it was Hmm. We sat staring at the screen wondering what exactly we were missing. Get Shorty had the same effect. Southland Tales rather more enjoyable if still totally baffling.

dudsville · 22/03/2016 21:06

Another vote here for Lobster. Fabulous actors and shine really funny lines but I was often lost!

Dowser · 30/03/2016 22:24

Vanilla sky

Batman v superman. Yes the new one !

Hotel el,paradiso......just awful

APotterWithAHappyAtmosphere · 01/04/2016 02:13

I thought you meant The Skin I Live In, I always get those muddled up. Also a headfuck!

loosechange · 01/04/2016 02:21

Bloody River Runs Through It. Will you just get on with it? Or not. I was lucky not to die of boredom.

Magnolia.
The conversation between DH and I went :
"It's raining frogs."
"No, it can't be. "
"Yes it is."
"Are you mad?"
Cue rewinding it multiple times, and it was indeed raining frogs.

That might also have been the film with the song that went "It's not going to stop. It's not going to stop, so you might as well give up." More fool me for not listening.

SausageSmuggler · 01/04/2016 23:56

I thought of Under The Skin as soon as I saw the thread title!
There's one whose name I've forgotten. It had Rachel Weiz and Hugh Jackman as lovers throughout history. I watched the whole thing but didn't get it at all. Off to find out the name of it now.

SausageSmuggler · 01/04/2016 23:58

The Fountain! Very odd.

icclemunchy · 02/04/2016 00:01

Welcome to wool woop. My dad thought it was brilliant

icclemunchy · 02/04/2016 00:01

Welcome to woop woop. My phone has ideas above its station!!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 02/04/2016 00:10

The science of sleep Michel Gondry (had adored eternal sunshine and thought this would be similar but I hated it).

StopLaughingDrRoss · 02/04/2016 03:15

Midnight Special... uhm, what?

ILoveWillSmith · 15/04/2016 20:35

Enemy - Jake Gyllenhaal. Is he 2 identical men? One man with a split personality? WTF does the tarantula have to do with anything?!! Confused

paintandbrush · 17/04/2016 11:06

Yeah the Ninth Gate was really stupid and quite pretentious too. Imo 7 pounds was very hard to follow-had to wikipedia it afterwards.

NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 17/04/2016 11:10

Trionic I'm with you on A Field In England. I've only seen it once and when I got to the end all I could think was "that was real good, but I have no idea what the hell that was all about!" Need to watch it again I think.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 22/04/2016 23:03

Have just watched The Lobster with DH and DM and we are all completely baffled.
