DD has suddenly got into this and its been years since I've seen it. Great characters, great music, beautiful animation and fantastic storyline (I know its based on Hamlet). There's lots of good Disney films but Lion King has everything - what Disney films are better than this?

And Nathan Lane as Timon is hilarious. Smile

101 Dalmations for me! Cute dogs and a real bad baddie- who desn't love to hate Cruella D'Evil!

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2015 12:33

Beauty and the Beast every time for me

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/05/2015 12:35

The Lion King every time. DS watched it far too often, could quote every line and happily once sat through it in French at a campsite. We also have Lion king 2 and 3 somewhere; taught DS all he needed to know about sequels.

Happybodybunny12 · 18/05/2015 12:39

Well sorry it's probably my least favourite.

Beauty and the beast, Cinderella, littlie mermaid far better in my opinion

butternut22 · 18/05/2015 12:41

Robin Hood is my fave!

AldiQ7 · 18/05/2015 12:52

No, I'm not sure YABU, it is pure brilliance and the opening sequence makes me cry every time.

However, we watched it again recently and a disturbing thought came to me.....who is Nala's dad?!

butternut22 · 18/05/2015 12:54

Ha. I thought the same!! Hmm

Anniegetyourgun · 18/05/2015 13:16

Fantasia is the greatest, sorry, no question. It's the music, you see. It was also the favourite of my mum (who died in 1979) and her mum (who died in 1958). But I don't have any complaints with Lion King.

DSis is reading this over my shoulder and is pleased to see that there has been another vote for Robin Hood. She makes particular mention of the scene where Little John, dressed as a fortune teller, kisses King John's hand Wink The hen nurse's American football scene also gets a mention (DSis is a fan of American football too).

We both had to go and Youtube the Lion King opening scene of course, and now we're both sitting here, two stout cynical ladies in their 50s, with tears streaming down our faces!

Smooshface · 18/05/2015 13:20

Aladdin might be my fave. Lion King is great, don't get me wrong, but Aladdin is a lot less traumatic, and man don't we all miss Robin Williams :(

Sgtmajormummy · 18/05/2015 13:33

Although I'm a lifelong fan of Jeremy Irons (he can sing too!) and I enjoy the hula decoy song "Are you achin' (yepyepyep) for some bacon?", The Lion King comes much further down our family's list of favourite cartoons than The Jungle Book. It's a work of art!

shakemysilliesout · 18/05/2015 13:57

Yes the rescuers is brilliant - but those were some dark days for Disney films, Oliver and company anyone??

Spirit isn't disney but I love it.

ofshoes · 18/05/2015 14:06

@ mrsschatzepage and thetravellinglemon it's the Mrs Jumbo locked up scene that makes the film, it's so emotionally heart wrenching and that makes it beautiful. I'm in complete floods every time I watch it

Mousefinkle · 18/05/2015 14:23

YABU. It's so boring Grin. It's possibly my least favourite Disney movie.

Beauty and the beast wins hands down.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 18/05/2015 14:32

wonder who'd win in fight between Sher (?sp) Khan out of JB and Scar out of LK

ofshoes · 18/05/2015 14:36

Shere Khan would wear scar like a belt to be fair

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 18/05/2015 14:36

can't believe holding-up-a-baby-like-in-Lion-King has been done already

Angry

mind you I've got at least ten years to go till mine start breeding so can pass it off as my own by then

LK is a fantastic animation but the songs are ropey

as for the teen lions falling in love bit- we all watched it a couple of weekends ago for no apparent reason and were CRYING laughing

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 18/05/2015 14:37

LOOOOL

TwinkieTwinkle · 18/05/2015 14:48

YABU. Basil the Great Mouse Detective is clearly the best Disney film ever.

Mrsjayy · 18/05/2015 14:52

Yes nala and simba were brother and sister its a wonder banjo music didnt play tbh

ImCatbug · 18/05/2015 15:02

YANBU The Lion King is the best. It's been my favourite movie since it was released!

Close seconds are Lilo and Stitch, Enchanted, Princess and the Frog, The Little Mermaid and Hunchback of Notre Dame.

RosaGertrudeJekyll · 18/05/2015 15:08

love it but not best. I adore disney they are amazing.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 18/05/2015 15:16

It's one of my favourites, so in that sense YANBU.

However I always struggle to choose between The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

curlyweasel · 18/05/2015 15:31

Pete's Dragon. Wal-E. Enchanted. But for Disney at its best (i.e. great songs, characters and nasty baddies) it has to be Jungle Book.

Theoretician · 18/05/2015 15:33

I haven't seen all Disney films, but The Jungle Book is definitely better The Lion King.
