I can't help but judge people who say their favourite film is 'Love Actually'.

At Christmas a friend was trying to convince me how romantic and touching it was and that the Colin Firth/Portuguese housekeeper scenario was so amusing and poignant.

I was sitting there like Hmm, thinking has the Tia Maria fried your brain cells... I actually couldn't help picking holes in the saccharine, simplistic, nonsensical, paint-by-numbers plotting and characterisation. And then just felt like the biggest Scrooge Bah Humbug person on Earth, ruining friend's favourite Christmas film which is the biggest pile of shite ever in the history of film making... I mean I bet even Richard Curtis judges people who love this film

However, I once took another friend who is a bit of an intellectual to see Hugh Jackman in 'Les Miserables'. I was all starry eyed and tearful at the finish [in a good way] whilst she was looking at me like this Hmm and saying okay, well that was, um, a bit of an emotional journey two hours wasted of my life I will never get back

So what film do others judge you for loving and which do you judge others for?

I judge people who think Titanic is a good film Blush

Not sure what I'm judged for.... i probably just don't share my embarrassing guilty film pleasures!

Ubik1 · 20/01/2015 21:47

Yup I judge

Love actually
Titanic
Mama Mia
Pretty woman

LaCerbiatta · 20/01/2015 21:47

Oh and I definitely judge people who don't think lost in translation is an amazing film (which appears to be most of mn!)

gamerchick · 20/01/2015 21:48

I don't judge people for any type of film. As long as they don't make me watch them Grin

My favourite film is devils rejects. I've been told 'I'm touched' for liking it so much Hmm

Ubik1 · 20/01/2015 21:49

I'm probably judged for loving

The Poseidon Adventure and
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid "who are those guys?"

FoxyMcFox · 20/01/2015 21:49

Pretty Woman.

burnishedsilver · 20/01/2015 21:52

The answer to both would be the Twilight.

Greythorne · 20/01/2015 21:56

I despise people who love Pretty Woman.
Especially when they go on to say things like "It's just a bit of fun, don't over analyze everything".

cafesociety · 20/01/2015 22:01

I once lost a friend when I dared to say I didn't enjoy Lord of the Rings. She took offence and didn't bother with me after I dared to have an opinion! I didn't judge her for liking it.

But I had no idea of the story before I saw it, hadn't read the book and so it wasn't making sense to me...and I hate films which are too long. Not a lover of fantasy anyway.

I also don't get Star Wars type films either.

I'm probably judged for liking Slumdog Millionaire, Billy Elliot, or Pride...but they are my types of films. I like a good cry and something remotely believable.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/01/2015 22:04

When people tell me they like Vin Diesel films. He made one good one, Pitch Black and the rest were pure chavbait.

Mind you, I like Crank 2 High Voltage: the quintessential Statham bollockfest.

CaptainAnkles · 20/01/2015 22:05

Mamma Mia
Eyes Wide Shut
Mrs Browns Boys (I think there's a film of it, isn't there? I also judge people who like the tv show)

StockingFullOfCoal · 21/01/2015 07:08

I love Step Brothers and Elf. DH can't stand Will Ferrel and when DFriend and I were watching them and screeching with laughter I was half expecting DH to divorce me Grin I don't even like that sort of comedy yet those films I find hilarious.

holmessweetholmes · 21/01/2015 07:12

Les Mis. Unbelievably awful. Switched it off after 45 mins. Can't believe I got that far tbh.

Not a film but DH and I have recently discovered the delights of GoggleBox Blush

We are resolved to tell anyone who asks what we got up to when we were watching it, that we have been dogging. DH says our friends will judge us less for dogging than watching GoggleBox which is probably true

As for films I have appalling taste and recently thoroughly enjoyed Mama Mia for the first time. Probably best that I don't comment any further :o

chipsandpeas · 21/01/2015 07:18

i am prejudging people who i know who are already saying they love 50 shades

LaLa5 · 21/01/2015 07:23

Mama Mia
Dirty Dancing
Dumb and Dumber
The Interview

First two I just don't get the appeal, they are awful bollocks! Second two are just not funny, it's idiot humour and I hated them.

People judge me for loving:
While you were sleeping
Fried green tomatoes
I just love them. I know they are not masterpieces but I love them!

NutcrackerFairy · 21/01/2015 07:40

Mrs Fox you were dogging while watching Gogglebox???

The mind boggles!

compilationmum · 21/01/2015 07:43

LaLa i love Fried Green Tomatoes too.

I judged DH for liking Quentin Tarantino's films then I watched Django and loved it.

HellKitty · 21/01/2015 07:48

Mamma Mia
Love Actually
Les Mis

I do like Gogglebox but have to hide my viewing of it. MiL loves Mrs Browns Boys and keeps trying to get us to watch clips. Hate it.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 21/01/2015 07:57

Oh.... erm...... I meant to say we would say that we were dogging INSTEAD of watching GoggleBox, not at the same time :o

NutcrackerFairy · 21/01/2015 08:09

Mrs Fox you and your DH go dogging?

Fascinating!

OP posts:
HellKitty · 21/01/2015 08:12

I saw that documentary. When they wore fox masks. The name makes sense now Wink

TheFantasticMrsFox · 21/01/2015 08:32

No, no, no, no, no

Are you teasing me nutcracker?

:o

Millionsmom · 21/01/2015 08:44

Mama Mia is the worst! I just think, it's not a thing I ever want my daughter to be fretting over. Now, don't flame me, I'm no angel, but not knowing who the father of my DD is would be bad enough, but thinking it was a choice of three guys???? So many friends take their DDs to see the play or movie, I always think, what are you thinking?and I love Abba too

My DD1 badgered me to watch Love Actually, so said I'd love it etc. We won tickets to the Premier, but couldn't make it so gave her the tickets, so saw it about 6 times before the DVD came out. Any how, she buys the DVD, we kick the rest of the family out for the evening. I think we made it past the credits but not much further in. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

Les Mis, bonking Santa??? Er no, don't think so.
