They hate us don’t they?

I notice all over social media that when it comes to taking the piss or highlighting a particular annoying type of character then ppl will default to the feminine. So, it might be a meme taking the piss out of the office gossip. It’s a woman; or doing an impression of that annoying jobsworth in the corner, it’s ‘Brenda’. Or focusing on a ‘gullible lefty’, then it’s a ‘women’s studies’ lecturer; or someone who is fake - always a woman, or a gold digger - always a woman.

like all the contempt in the world is directed at women.

Gay men do it, straight men do it, old men do it, young men do it.

they hate us don’t they?

Well, women are 50% of the population, so it's a lot of people to hate. 🙄

FfsJaney · 02/05/2024 15:44

Yes, men do hate women. I never saw it when I was younger cos I was beautiful and had value to men. They wanted to shag me, work with me, be with me and so they were endlessly nice to me. Then I got older and my looks faded and everything changed. I guarantee that the men you think are good, solid, dependable, not like other men are referring to women as cows/bitches/ ugly cows/greedy bitches/hags/unfuckable/old cows, stupid splits etc etc.

I have known, lived with, worked with my DH for 40 years and he has NEVER spoken of women like this. Not all men are the same and there are as many decent, good men as there are women.

Dargawn · 02/05/2024 18:29

There are of course good men. Some men are just not prone to swearing or slagging anyone off. Women or men. So no they would not call women bitches, slags etc etc coz it’s not in their vocabulary to do so.

But even the best of them ignore, trivialise and marginalise women. Look at the article up thread. We can assume that the men on ‘Great Lives’ are the best of men, hand picked by the bbc to share their views on a radio show. And ALL bar two picked men as their subjects.

desire, hate, ignore. I’ve changed to ‘desire’ because to idolise is too deep

they do not hold us in good enough esteem to idolise us.

Okey, so when are we starting a separatist movement?

Should we start a western 4B movement like the Chinese and Korean women have?

Churchview · 02/05/2024 20:40

even the best of them ignore, trivialise and marginalise women.

Again, I have never seen my husband nor indeed several of his lifelong male friends do this. They are all in long standing, equal relationships with strong, independent women. They admire women and hold them in the same esteem as they do men. I have never once been ignored, trivialised or marginalised by these men in what amounts to half a lifetime or more.

In a long career I witnessed very little of this type of behaviour from the men I worked with and don't see it in my personal life. I believe many men are not what is being portrayed in this thread.

It seems some people hate men as much as they imagine men hate women

@FindThatThing honestly I don’t hate men. I find it very reassuring that you are in a network like this, because it is not my experience at all.

nearly of all the men I know and have ever known have a strange view if women and are either suspicious of them, patronise them, hit on them or resent them.

perhaos when you find you are on the company of one non misogynistic man, it’s like you attract more into you network. Like birds of a feather type thing.

honestly I enjoy the company of my male counterparts immensely but they always fuck up before too long and I have to navigate around varying levels of them just not getting it.

but of course I have to put up with it, perhaps gently remind them where they may be going wrong occasionally but most of all I keep quiet.

but these supportive men who champion women and hold them in great esteem? Nah. Never met one.

Something that really really hit home for me with this was that horrible Baby Reindeer.
Everyone hates her, not the man. I couldn't shake the feeling that if she had been 10 years younger and slim he would have had no qualms dating her. It was how she looked that stopped him. It is because she is a woman, fat and not attractive everyone is choosing to target her. She is the automatic recipient of hate because how could she possibly ever think he might fancy her!

I think it's so telling that the hate for the stalker in baby reindeer far outweighs the hate for the rapist. No newspaper has tried to 'out' him even though it's clear he's the real villain of the story.

Happyinarcon · 02/05/2024 23:28

I don’t watch Netflix or much tv but out in the real world men have always treated me with kindness and respect and I’m not pretty. The internet and mainstream media never seems to reflect my reality. I have never even met a Karen come to think of it.

Hereyoume · 03/05/2024 09:42

Oh OP, you dod sound a bit hysterical.

Men dont "hate" women, anymore than we "hate" them.

It's a ludicrous point of view.

Men are derided on every sit-com and advert. The clichéd bumbling husband, who can't find anything, fix anything, understand anything. Comedians have made careers out of mocking Men, making jokes about their stupidity. It's even (I kid you not) socially acceptable for women to slap or hit Men.

You're being ridiculous.

CheshireCat1 · 03/05/2024 09:57

I don’t know these awful men that are being described on this thread, family, friends or colleagues, so I probably mix in different circles.

"Hysterical".

Maybe Google the origin of that word? You have just proven the OP's point.

I find it so sad. We don’t do anything to deserve it. It’s based on their feelings towards us and not anything that we do wrong.

In any man’s life, some women have the power to make them feel good or bad. They either idolise or hate them depending on the situation.

all the rest of us are othered. Literally ignored or degraded, again depending on the situation.

they really do not see any point in us other than to make them feel good or have their kids.

and there’s nothing we can do about it

idolised, despised, ignored.

In my experience almost every man who has disdain for women have acquired it by being dragged through family court.

A process which historically is so rigged in womens favour it would be funny if it were not so sad.

We're starting to make some progress towards equality but women are just much better at playing these games as they've had a lifetime of experience of politics which are not really a part of male society.

100% agree with this, on anything by the BBC it's very rare to see the a typical, middle aged white guy cas as anything other than a bumbling idiot or villain.

What you look for you're certain to find...

I think this is a bit silly - people take the piss out of men too 🙄

Exactly - you're seeing it because you expect to see it. I notice how men are constantly ridiculed - in adverts, in sitcoms etc. Much more likely to have an idiotic male buffoon than a female one.

Churchview · 03/05/2024 17:55

but these supportive men who champion women and hold them in great esteem? Nah. Never met one.

I've been thinking about this and can list so many men throughout my life who have done this. My college lecturer who encouraged me to start my own business, my uncle who went out of his way, every week for years to drive me to the additional maths lessons I needed, my dad who taught me that the world was my oyster.

These men weren't perfect but they believed in me as a person and gave me confidence and their time, energy and care to ensure I could fulfill my potential.

You should try being an average white guy, you're told from an early age all the world's ills are your fault, any sort of ambition is greeted with suspicion, there are no initiatives / quotas to get you in to anything. There are no preferential schemes, university attendance is dropping like a stone. Most young guys rarely if ever hear words of encouragement from anyone.

This stance is as extreme as that from the OP.

There is a good reason historically why there are no initiatives/guotas or preferential schemes to get white men into anything.

If the aim is equal repreparation of men / woman in all jobs where are the initiatives to get women in to all the dangerous, physically demanding and otherwise crap jobs filled with men? Or any initiative to get men in to any of the jobs filled with women?

Churchview · 03/05/2024 18:50

You're talking to the wrong woman mate, I've spent my life working as a farmer and gardener. Dangerous, physically demanding, out in all weathers and often quite literally crap.

Men lurking and commenting on MN make me 🤮 What on earth are they doing here? It's a space for women. I know it's not exclusive, but neither is the lingerie section in Marks and Spencer and men hanging around there would make me equally uncomfortable. Honestly can you imagine if you found your DP or DH scrolling through and incessantly commenting on MN - such a major ick factor and turn off. It always makes my skin crawl and frankly only serves to confirm and clearly demonstrate OPs proposition.

Btw, Im addressing this to other women. I will ignore replies from men.

It's just nice to occasionally chime in and bring a different view to the echo chamber which is MN
