A friendly thread for support for fellow ocd sufferers. No judgement here.

Can I join - so relatable. I suffer with various forms of OCD but predominantly the fear of harming someone unintentionally- had to close down my food business a couple of years ago as was paranoid about every food prep system I had in place and was taking me twice as long as necessary and costing me more as I would often discard food that I couldn’t be sure had been handled correctly. Most recently it’s Real OCD - ruminating / rethinking and obsessing over past events / conversations / actions. Some I’ve blown up in my head to be way worse than they were and although in reality these are things that probably have gone in noticed my moral compass and need for perfection has me over analysing, probably not remembering correctly and now exaggerating and self punishing myself daily but not being able to enjoy living in the moment.
my brain is on high alert all the time when o wake up now I feel flat, start thinking straight away and my tomorrows another day phrase suddenly doesn’t seem to help.
i have started seeing a therapist and I think we are going to try ERP the ACT and CBT strategies don’t seem to work for me as I get that I’m catastrophising, being too rigid in my thinking and letting my untrue side of my brain take over bit I can’t escape my thoughts. I need to be entirely honest what my guilty feeling are to them to be able to move forward and o think I’ve bottled it up for so long that that will be tricky. But easier to a non friend who hopefully won’t judge !
for now I’m finding it hard to work as focus and thoughts are on overdrive and trying to deal with it myself, I hate myself for being like this. It got worse with menopause for sure
reading through all your experiences really resonates and helps me feel that I’m not mad.

Bless you. Not to the same extent but I can relate to the fear of unintentionally harming someone through incorrect food prep or washing up liquid residue in my kids water bottles so I rinse and rinse and rinse…
also the waking up flat and thinking. I think constantly, all the bloody time.
Ive been seeing a therapist for almost a year now and it’s definitely helped.

Do you take any meds if you don’t mind me asking?

I hope therapy works for you!

Has anyone tried cold turkey? I’m tempted to try. I know CBT gets you to tackle the easiest behaviours first but I’m wondering whether to go for the hardest.

my friend says she will do the thing she’s avoiding if it’s ocd related so she doesn’t ingrain any behaviours
