i keep letting myself down.i feel crap but relieved.

solo · 10/06/2008 14:07

naswm. What about a rubber band on your wrist? I've spoken to many people in my job that cut and have often got them to try this as an alternative. Snap it really hard against your skin. I have it on good authority that it really can be effective and help.

CVQ, hello. friendly wave from solo.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/06/2008 14:08

Well, you know its not letting yourself down at all. Its a long climb for you out of all this and there will be stumbles but eventually you will find more and more that you develop better coping techniques that will help you through this.

I don't know how you SH but make sure that you get any medical attention that you might need. Are there any supportive friends you can call?

Buda · 10/06/2008 14:10

Sorry you are feeling so down. I have no experience of SH but others on here seem to. The rubber band is something I have heard of before. May be worth a try?

copingvquietly · 10/06/2008 14:12

i can deal with this one here.its not too deepi dont want to call a friend.its not fair.im ok.

Buda · 10/06/2008 14:17

for you cvq. Wish I could give you a big hug. Sounds like you need one.

lunavix · 10/06/2008 14:20

thinking of you both x

I have deep scars on tops of my arms - I think they're called 'keloid' scars from where they stick out as they should have had stitches. My two gorgeous little ones ask what they are, what the hell do I tell them? It's enough to have kept me from doing it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/06/2008 14:26

I'm glad you are ok cvq. don't forget though - friends don't mind helping.

So what are you going to do the rest of today?

fiodyl · 10/06/2008 14:28

CVQ you have not let yourself down, you did really well in holding off for so long.

I read this thing this morning about a person who has big weights being placed on his shoulders. Eventually there are too many and he falls down. It said that a combination of being able to offload the weights(worries) and increasing strength(coping techniques) would prevent him from falling down again.

I don't really know much about your history but id guess you have alot of weights on your shoulders, so are already a very strong person to be carrying so much day to day. In the short term you will needto increase your strength slightly(medication/support/coping techniques)to make it easier to bear whilst you work on the long-term to reduce those weights. this should be something the CMHT will help you with.

Hope this makes a bit of sense to you, if not feel free to ignore it.

fiodyl · 10/06/2008 14:32

Lunavix, Im not sure what I would say in your situation but maybe just something simple like' Mummy was porly and it made her arms hurt, but Im better now and they don't hurt anymore'?
When they are older and more able to understand a fuller explanation could be given if they ask

copingvquietly · 10/06/2008 14:54

i cant wear short sleeved tops in public either.but most of my cuts are on my legs at the moment.mainly at the top so theyre hidden.
