Need cheering up :(

Really could do with some cheering up right now. Step dad has been in hospital for about a week - ongoing problems with bronchitis. He had a bad turn the other night and is now in the high dependancy unit. We just thought that he would pull through and would just carry on as before. Mum went to visit him last night and was taken to a room and told that he was pretty bad and that if anything was to happen that they probably wouldn't try and resus him. This has really shocked us all and we are all feeling really numb right now. Staff have told us to take things day by day.

Hi Nailpolish! DSD has all the oxygen stuff at home already. He has been using it for months but wasn't on it 24/7. He has one of those huge oxygen machines that you can't move very easily. Dm is half and half as to whether or not she could cope with him at home if it becomes a possibility. She isn't very well herself and it would be a lot for her to deal with although we know that care would be available in the community. The thought of how she would cope if he died at home is something she is trying to think about at the moment too. How she would be if she was alone with him when it happened and how she would be able to live in the same house knowing that he passed away there is a difficult one too. Dm has just said she is taking each morning, afternoon and evening one step at a time for now. Thanks for your caring words and time to chat with me. x

Update - good night tonight. DSD looked the best I have seen him so far. Consultant has told dsd's dd (my step sis) that if he continues the way he is he could be home next week). Hard to get excited though as we have too many things in our heads that we have been told before. DM says that if he comes out for Christmas she is going to push the boat out and buy the prettiest fibre optic tree and decorations. Bless her! Phew it's hard work all this. I know nailpolish and Donbean that you work with it everyday it must be hard for you too - there must be one or two people that you get close to.

Haven't been on for a few days - decided that if I didn't switch onto MN some housework may get done around here! Well all being well and with clearance from the consultant dsd will be home tomrrow. We are at the point that we didn't think we would reach. Dm is really excited and has the house all Christmassy ready for his return. I am hoping and praying that all will be good for Christmas day. Keep everything crossed for us pleeeeaseee! Smile

Was hoping I wouldn't have to bring this thread up again - at least not for a while anyway. Just wanted to say that dsd has gone downhill again over the past two weeks. Had to have doctor out to see him a couple of days ago. They have taken some samples and we are awaiting results to see whether or not he needs admitting to hospital again.
He is finding it very difficult to catch his breath, has no energy. Couldn't even get himself up and about to get washed and dressed this morning. Dm had to help him wash and get dressed. Not sure where things are going to go from here.

He only managed to get about 2 hours sleep last night. Poor dm is shattered.

I seem to be rambling on this thread - not sure if anyone is listening though.
DSD is still really ill. Dm is finding it really tough being with him day and night, watching him feeling so rough. She hints on the phone that she wants me to go round. I'm going around as much as possible, obviously have my own family to try and sort out too, but there isn't a lot I can do.
