Emetophobia - terrified of this sickness bug

1000 replies

nellyraggbagg · 03/01/2008 22:21

This sounds so stupid, but I'm completely terrified of the children (not to mention DH and me) catching this Norovirus that's doing the rounds. I've been emetophobic for as long as I can remember, and it has become even worse since having children. Every time they open their mouths, I'm terrified they're going to say they feel sick. When I go to bed at night, my last waking thought is: "Oh my God, what if they're sick in the night?" My DH is working away a lot at the moment, which makes matters even worse (he is good at dealing with sick, thank goodness!!) I have dealt with both children being sick (I have found that manic cleaning helps very slightly to take my mind off the blind panic), but am rigid with fear following newspaper reports of this current bug. How will I pick DS up from school if DD and/or I get it? My Mum is miles away, unfortunately. And what if DH gets it? I don't know how I'd cope if he were sick. Please, please help, someone - even if just by saying that I'm not the only person who feels like this!

Notalone, if you haven't got an e-bay account then i'll join the CAT thing if you will? My Dh a bit wary of me going on facebook. He very protective over me!He has an e-bay account that you could look at an item to get in touch with us on. Let me know hun. Hope your tum ok! xx

Notalone · 01/05/2008 22:12

Hey Wiggleit. Thanks for the reassurances. Nope, not nerves and my belly still feels bad. Am gonna take my anti emets and try to get some sleep. Hopefully when I wake up I will feel better. Fingers crossed!

I have got an ebay account but have not used it in a while. I will try to get on probably tomorrow or Sat, so let me know how to find your item and I wll get in touch with ya! xxx

nellyraggbagg · 01/05/2008 22:13

Notalone - I hope you are ok. Remember D is far more common in adults than V. I shall have everything crossed for you...

Unfortunately ill boy and ill girl are both in DS's tiny class of 11. They both always drive (we're in pre-prep land, here - we are the only people in the class who actually walk to school...), so I can't pass it off as unusual car-sickness. But thank you for trying to give me a rational perspective!!!

I shall be quizzing ill boy's dad in the morning, even thought I shouldn't (he'll be taking his DD to school, even if his DS is ill. All I can do is hope he doesn't take his DS regardless...)

Notalone hugs from a distance hope you are OK.
Nelly people can V for a number of reasons. i keep telling myself soembody witha bug vomited last year in DS class and nobody got it so even if it is a bug you may be OK. Must admit it was all I could do not to drag DS out of nursery this am. the coutdown begins

wiggleit · 01/05/2008 22:26

Nelly, be thinking of you but i'm sure everthing will be ok...(she says with everything crossed for you!)

Notalone.. my DH says when you next on here he'll give you an item number and then you can ask the seller a question..so if you do it straight away as we put the item number up we'll know it's you..(iyswim) I'll check on here tomorrow evening to see if you are about hun. Hope you feel ok in the morning sweetie! Be thinking of you! Take your anti-emets and some deep breaths and know that we are all on here thinking of you! Take care hun, hope to catch you tomorrow. xx

wiggleit · 01/05/2008 22:28

Schmoopoo - hope you are ok too with your little trauma this morning! Think you were very brave to have stayed in the situation, i'd have been out of there like a shot! x

nellyraggbagg · 02/05/2008 17:13

Quizzed Ill Boy's Dad this am as he was dropping his DD off. Apparently his DS didn't in fact v, and hasn't had d either. Dad said he seemed fine within ten minutes of getting home, but they decided to keep him off anyway today just in case (if only all parents were that sensible!!!)

So I had a sleepless night last night for nowt!

Ah well. DH should be back at midnight, so I can - maybe - go to sleep tonight knowing that he can do night duty (never mind the fact he'll have driven 400 miles today...

DS and DD fighting, so I have to go!

Hope everyone else is well x

Hi Nelly glad to hear the news. My 2 are OK well DD got sent home with spots ? CHicken pox but nothing to do with D+V

nellyraggbagg · 02/05/2008 19:15

Schmoo - sorry that your DD is spotty, but glad the spots aren't accompanied by the dreaded D&V.

Now anxious because DD and DS both have funny poo!! I am hoping it's because they've had orange juice today (which they don't normally have - but DH couldn't tell the difference between apple juice and orange juice in Sainsburys!!!) But I am of course now in a panic, esp. given the illnesses at DS's school. Oh, it's so tedious being me...

nellyraggbagg · 02/05/2008 21:35

PS DS's parting words to me when I tucked him up for bed: "I hope I'm feeling well tomorrow". So that presumably means he wasn't feeling well at bedtime?? Aaaaaarghhhhhhh.

wiggleit · 02/05/2008 21:44

OMG Nelly...poor you, another sleepless night on the cards? Kids eh? Didn't you ask him what he meant by that comment? I'd have asked my DD about 10 million questions ( slight exaggeration!) if she'd said something like that to me! Hope all is well Nelly! xx

Notalone, where are you tonight matey? How you feeling? Has your tum settled? hope you are ok bud. xx

Evening to everyone else! xx

nellyraggbagg · 02/05/2008 23:16

Wiggle - I so nearly did ask him, but just couldn't face the answer - plus I have spent the whole of the past week quizzing him about his classmates' tummies, and I rather felt this evening that I was running the risk of making him as neurotic as I am if I quiz him any further. So I just have to hope for the best. DH will be back at around 2am, so at least he'll be able to keep me company as I sit around worrying!!

Notalone - how are you today? I hope your tummy has settled...

Hope everyone else is well and not worrying! x

Notalone · 03/05/2008 08:22

Sorry I didn't get a chance to get on here last night. My belly was dodgy all day yesterday too but I figured I hadn't V'd so it was just one of those things. Thanks for all your kind words though!

Nelly - what a relief and a nightmare all in one go. Releif that the boy wasn't sick after all and worry that your DS is coming down with something. How is he today? Is DH back now?

Wiggleit - are you on at the moment? This trying to co-ordinate everything is a mare isn't it. If we can't get on at the same time perhaps you could put the listing and then I could use a code word or something so you know its me. All very cloak and dagger lol!!! You will have to promise you don't laugh at my ebay name though. My friend chose it for me and I think its embarrassing. Do you listen to Hallam FM btw cos I was on the radio last night lol xxxx

Notalone · 03/05/2008 08:23

PS - how is your Ds Schmoopoo today?

schmoopoo · 03/05/2008 11:05

Very mild though and not ill fingers crossed theyw ill dry up quickly

Notalone · 03/05/2008 12:37

BB - so, so sorry to hear you have had a bad time recently. For what it's worth, I just about convinced myself I had skin cancer last year, and I now I have seen a mole on DS's scalp that never used to be there, I am convinced that he has got it too...

Speaking of DS, he had D yesterday, following his ominous comment of the night before. After lunch, he went to bed with (aaaaaaargh) a bowl, courtesy of DH (who is now back, hurrah). Poor DS is truly my son - the poor little thing was sobbing in case he "got sick" as he puts it - which made me feel terrible . He seems better today, thank goodness, and he did not v. Phew!

BB - hang in there! I hope your therapy is back on track soon... Sending you hugs from oop north!

Schmoo - how's your DD? I hope she's on the mend.

OP posts:
Notalone · 05/05/2008 11:15

Oh god I do that too! What are we all like. I think in your case BB, the added stress is making it worse. I am always worse when I am under pressure. What do you think your DFIL would say? Would he be sympathetic? Sending you hugs.

Aw Nelly - poor DS. how old is he again? So glad he didn't V. What a relief. Bet you are glad DH is back!!

Hi to everyone else too. Wiggleit - am gonna text you today oh quiet one. Hope you are ok xx

wiggleit · 05/05/2008 14:04

Hi everyone! Not been on here for a couple of days with my 'oh so busy' hectic social life! soz bb, not trying to rub it in or anything!

Nelly - poor you, bet you were in a bit of a flap with ds. At least no v though!

bb - sorry to hear about your awful panic attack the other night. Hope you are feeling better about things now. Googling anything is a bad idea but i do it too! I've had soooo many life threatening illnesses its a wonder i'm still here! I always convince myself i have cancer of something! Not good. Hope your therapy continues to help. You've been an absolute godsend to me and you are still employed as my mentor! Good luck ttc hun, it'll happen, got everything crossed for you!xxx

Notalone - how you doing matey? Will e-mail you later hun. Not sure you'll wana go out with me with my uncouth behaviour ..but i'm posh while i'm being uncouth ( is that possible?) coz i get drunk on g&t's, or wine or cocktails...not beer like you (i'm so much more classier a drunk than you!) I say that like it's a good thing don't i? Will catch you later babe.

Hi to everyone else! Hope you're all having a fab bank hol weekend! Isn't the weather just gorgeous? (wot's that all about, it's bank hol, it should be chucking it down!)xxx
