I'm going to have a MHA assessment in the next few days. How likely is it that I'll end up in hospital? My CPN said they'd used her views into account, when I said I'm tell them I'm doing ok.

It's hard for us to huge this situation with so little information. What medication you're on, whether you live with anyone etc.

SavingsQuestions · 20/03/2021 20:14

We don't know because we are people on the internet - which was why I was suggesting you listen to cmht.

And if it helps, to tell your brain that you can listen to (trust in my mind) them as they do this as their job and know what they are doing. Hospital might feel like the last thing you want to do but if they are recommending it it will be with good reason.

Good luck lovely x

The crisis team have just been. I told them I didn't want hospital, and they said they'd be worried if I did. They said the plan is hospital, I'm taking my antipsychotic (they're supervising), but not my antidepressants. I want to disengage, but worry that would end in hospital,

SavingsQuestions · 20/03/2021 21:39

(((((SnowyMouse)))) I hope the antipsychotic helps. We really can't advise. Keep talking to them xx

Namechange1991x · 20/03/2021 21:48

Surely if you're taking your antipsychotic that's the main thing. I've read antidepressants can't be forced (I have been in a simar position to you). Are they getting you a bed?

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/03/2021 11:41

Any psychiatric treatment can be enforced under MHA it's just practically hard to enforce an antidepressant as they don't come in injectable formats.

SnowyMouse · 21/03/2021 16:36

They want to see if there's a bad tomorrow, is there wasn't one on my usual ward over the weekend. I thought that about enforcing antidepressants...

OP posts:
CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/03/2021 18:09

The enforceable antidepressant alternative is ECT but things would have to be very bad (ie life threatening) to go that far

SnowyMouse · 21/03/2021 18:52

I can't have ECT.

When you said that you want to disengage but think that will end in hospital you are right.

If you want to stay out of hospital you have to be complying with the less restrictive treatment option. An MHA assessment doesn't have to end in detention but it will do if you are unwell, at risk and not complying with other options.

If you felt you could trust the community psychiatrist then try to hang on to that. If she's saying you need treatment that's likely to be because you do. Hopefully she'd be willing to negotiate different medication with you.

No-one is going to be detained for disagreeing with a particular medication as long as they are willing to have another one. It's where someone is refusing all treatment that they may be liable to be detained.

SnowyMouse · 21/03/2021 19:30

Thanks Covoid, you've given me something to think about.

OP posts:
Namechange1991x · 21/03/2021 19:31

Are you.going voluntarily?

SnowyMouse · 22/03/2021 08:40

I don't know, they might have changed their minds.

OP posts:
sleveen · 22/03/2021 08:47

Hopefully you can continue to be treated in the community. If not, I hope your bed is on a nice ward.

Namechange1991x · 22/03/2021 08:59

Keep us updated..I've been where you are and managed to stay at home. But I appreciate some people find hospital helpful.

SnowyMouse · 22/03/2021 11:13

Thanks both. Just rang care coord, they say the MHA assessment is going ahead, just not sure when.

SavingsQuestions · 22/03/2021 11:29

Good luck - remember they are trying to help you and not trying to catch you out. My best advise is to be brutally honest with them - I've supported a family member through numerous MHA and at times she will deny all the tricky stuff that is going on in her head out of (understandable) fear, but then that leaves her unable to engage with them.

Be really honest about the feelings, the impulses, delusions, whatever is going on for you - as well as what you want to happen/ what you are scared they will do. They really are trying to help.

I'm really hoping for you that whatever is going on for you this week, that in a few weeks and months time you will be able to look back on this from a much better place xxx

SnowyMouse · 22/03/2021 12:07

Thanks SavingQuestions...it's hard to be totally honest with them, I'm scared of hospital.

OP posts:
SavingsQuestions · 22/03/2021 13:25

I know. I really do. It's a vicious circle isn't it - if you're not honest they will be aware of that and think you need treatment.

Please be as honest as you can be. They will help you better when they know what's going on.

Good luck today. Do you have anything that can take your mind off things until they come? Or something you like doing? I have been playing Animal Crossing on my daughter's switch and I am loving being absorbed in that world!

SnowyMouse · 22/03/2021 14:09

Thanks SavingsQuestions. I've got the tv on, it's a good distraction.

SnowyMouse · 22/03/2021 17:05

It's looking like it wont be today...

OP posts:
CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/03/2021 20:56

No reason you shouldn't ask the team when the assessment is. I think that would be polite to let you know. The only reason not to is if it's thought you might abscond...

Your NR will probably know when it is because they have to be consulted.

I guess they can't think it's all that urgent if they didn't get to it today.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/03/2021 20:58

I do agree that honesty is the best policy. Lying or concealing things makes it look like you are not willing to work with services/ are downplaying risks. Being honest about your thoughts and struggles makes it clear you have insight and motivation to get better and therefore reduces the chance of being compulsory treated.

Namechange1991x · 22/03/2021 21:01

Yeah, when I was going to have one, it was there and then.

SnowyMouse · 23/03/2021 12:20

It's today, before 2pm.
