I'm genuinely shocked to hear about Mike from Love Island been found dead..

It just goes to show that no amount of money and/or fame will make you happy.

I've read ( I don't know how much of this is true though) that he lost his friend on Christmas Eve and his Nan a few days ago who he cared for. I've also read that he was in debt.. again, whether this is true or not.

I just feel like sometimes you're not heard, or cared about or given support until it's too late and until you've actually gone through with it.

I don't know why I'm posting this to be honest. I've been feeling quite low the past few days and then seeing the news about Mike this morning has really just, kind of upset me a bit I suppose.

I literally just found out a young woman and mother I worked with few years ago has died. Am partly guessing but suspect was suicide it really concerns me that the younger generation are struggling so much with trauma and everyday life 😢

JustBeenNosey · 19/03/2019 10:19

@JediJim I know. It's sad.

A lot of girls my age are now realising how harmful contraceptive pills/injections etc can be to your mental health.

You go to the dr's at 13-15 with 'irregular periods' or 'bad period pains' and they bang your on the pill, or give you the implant. They don't tell you that later on in life, 10 years later that you could've severely depressed as a cause of this.

@dragonsfire I'm sorry to hear that Thanks
It is really sad. The amount of people who I know suffer with anxiety/depression is scary. It's how you deal with it though I suppose. My mum suffered when she was about my age but she's very much in the mind set of 'youll be fine, you'll get through it' all them things that you don't wanna hear when you're going through a bit of a shit, low, mood. But she's been through it and come out of the other side so she must be doing something right!

I've been reading this thread for a couple of days. I'm still really shocked about Mike. I had no interest in following him on social media, never met him, watched a bit of the programme when it was and thought what a beautiful looking man he was and how he had all his life ahead of him. Such a waste! How can it be that bad that there is no way out? The thing that upsets me more than anything is that it was clearly intentional and not a cry for help. Why couldn't he speak to someone? Poor Montana - I saw a clip of her saying she didn't reply to his text 2 days before 😢

JustBeenNosey · 19/03/2019 10:58

@carrottopper it's really sad isn't it.

I feel for her, and the rest of his friends and family.
She wasn't to know what he was going to do, she just feel awful! I know a lot of the time once their mind is made up, nobody can do anything to stop it or help.

I read something last night that apparently Sophie Gradon's best friend feels like she didn't commit suicide and that someone else played a part in her death...

I have never looked on his Instagram until the other day. He does look quite sad in his pictures, although it could be mistaken for moody. It's really upset me

This is awful but I don’t know what the makers of Love Island are supposed to have done to stop this. They’re not responsible for their contestants lives indefinitely are they? It sounds like he’d had a rough time with bereavement recently. And you never know what is going on in someone’s head do you. Suicide can come from nowhere sometimes. It worries me that it can strike seemingly unexpectedly, families are often so shocked and say there was no warning signs. Just some I can think of off the top of my head, Keith Flint, Gary Speed, Richard Woollacott. All seemingly at the top of their game and successful. I don’t know what I’m trying to say really. So sad and scary.

JustBeenNosey · 19/03/2019 11:11

@carrottopper I don't follow him or twitter or insta.. I don't tend to follow these reality tv stars as they end up just doing paid ad's for weight loss shit and clothing brands 😴

I think this has touched a lot of people if I'm honest

@Igottastartthinkingbee I know what you mean.

And it is a scary world we live in at the moment. Far too many people are taking their own lives.

This has really affected me. I feel so sad and can't stop thinking about what this poor boy must have been thinking to do this.
I had a look at his Instagram and there was a picture he had put on with him as a child with his mum, it's just heartbreaking

BartonHollow · 19/03/2019 20:28

No but my take on it is they should stop recruiting young, vulnerable, gullible people desperate to emulate the people they see on TV and enjoy what they falsely perceive to be "a glamorous lifestyle" - (the Z List life is nowhere close to the A List one)

Then placing them in exploitative manufactured positions where they will invariably make a holy show of themselves on a national scale and expect that not to have an indelible impact on their long term mental health

JustBeenNosey · 19/03/2019 20:53

@BartonHollow Yes!

This exactly! 👏🏼

Thing is he was on the show two years ago he was on celebs go dating after that and nothing being said about that.

Tbh IF were to look at where issues may be I think management companies are the ones with the ultimate safeguarding job as well as giving money advice.

JediJim · 19/03/2019 21:29

Whilst Love Island can’t be blamed for Mikes suicide, I’d like to think that these horrid reality shows would be axed... (obviously they won’t).
I think reality tv which started with Big Brother back in the early 2000s really was the start of these awful types of programmes.
I understand that young people want their 15mins of fame and possibly make a quick buck but ultimately they are exploited by these shows and used and then thrown away. I know that’s how show biz works, it’s cheap tv that millions of people watch. Sadly at the cost of mainly young vulnerable people, like poor Mike.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 19/03/2019 21:31

Well yes I agree that Love Island is a horrible concept of a show, never actually watched it myself. But I’m not sure how long they are expected to take responsibility for their contestants. As a pp has said, it’s two years since he was on the show. Personally I think society as a whole would be better off without all these types of TV shows, Big Brother, Love Island etc...

Igottastartthinkingbee · 19/03/2019 21:31

JediJim cross post!

JustBeenNosey · 20/03/2019 07:58

@Igottastartthinkingbee @JediJim @dragonsfire Love Island cant be blamed for the death of Sophie and Mike but they're panicking now and is offering therapy, social media training and financial management advice now.

Like Jonny said, who was on the show, it's too little, too late now.

They should have been doing all this in the first place not starting now because 2 people have taken their own lives
