I'm genuinely shocked to hear about Mike from Love Island been found dead..

It just goes to show that no amount of money and/or fame will make you happy.

I've read ( I don't know how much of this is true though) that he lost his friend on Christmas Eve and his Nan a few days ago who he cared for. I've also read that he was in debt.. again, whether this is true or not.

I just feel like sometimes you're not heard, or cared about or given support until it's too late and until you've actually gone through with it.

I don't know why I'm posting this to be honest. I've been feeling quite low the past few days and then seeing the news about Mike this morning has really just, kind of upset me a bit I suppose.

@Megsmcgoo I'm sorry! I hope everything is okay!

And yes I agree with you and @RisingLikeAPhoenix that Love Island and ITV will definitely need to be investigated as part of both mike and Sophie's deaths.

They’re often so so young on these shows too. So much so that when the limelight does leave them and they become they’re often just of an age when most people are working their way up in their chosen career. Mid 20s. It’s a lot to deal with.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 16:02

@Mydressinggownismybestfriend I know! I'm 25 and when you hear that some people are only 19/20 that go on.. it's crazy!

19 year old me was badly depressed and wouldn't have been able to cope with the pressures of being made famous by a reality tv show

OP posts:
Mydressinggownismybestfriend · 17/03/2019 16:03

Yep Sad

So for the career you wanted for yourself to effectively be over so young would be devastating.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 16:06

@Mydressinggownismybestfriend I've heard that this year, the contestants will be Z listers?

So people who are 'Instagram/Twitter famous' who already have a big following, but not necessarily famous..
I don't know how true this is though🤷🏼‍♀️

This is the most shocking celebrity death for me I think. I still can't quite believe it.

As everyone else says, money, fame just equals nothing. It means nothing.

Look at Mike, from the outside, it looked like he had everything. I mean he was gorgeous, women loved him. He had fame....you would of expected him to of had money.

Yet he does this in the most shocking way. Just awful. May you rest in peace Mike xxx

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 16:18

@trebless I feel exactly the same.. it's hit me quite hard and I really don't know why.

It's such a fucking shame and I wish more could be done 😖😖😩

OP posts:
TeachesOfPeaches · 17/03/2019 16:33

I think it's worse because he seemed to have everything - young, tall, dark and handsome, popular with women and lots of prospects for the future (on the face of it). Such a huge waste of young life.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 16:36

@TeachesOfPeaches a huge waste. It doesn't seem right. He was only a year older than me. He had his whole life ahead of him.

TeachesOfPeaches · 17/03/2019 16:44

I've been following the story on Twitter and some people have been sending very nasty comments to his ex gf Megan McKenna.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 16:47

@TeachesOfPeaches I haven't seen anything like that, and I'm not surprised she has had some negative comments.. not that I agree with anything but people will just throw abuse at her because it was in the media that they had troubles in their relationship etc and people have seen that she goes abit OTT or 'psycho' when she was on Ex on the Beach and Big Brother.

Not that she deserves to be blamed for his death at all!

OP posts:
trebless · 17/03/2019 17:31

I imagine his death may be a massive shock to a lot of men. If anything can come from mikes death, hopefully it will encourage more men (and women) to open up.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 17:42

@trebless hopefully! A lot of men will probably look up to him, in a way!
My ex used to suffer with anxiety but never told work because he felt that they wouldn't let him do jobs on his own and stuff.

OP posts:
trebless · 17/03/2019 17:47

@JustBeenNosey exactly, a lot of younger lads especially. He was a footballer too so he already had a following before fame. Mike came across as quite hard and didn't really show much of his personality did he? Loved him on celebs go dating last year, could tell he was a very sweet guy underneath. I feel he just had to play a character that wasn't him

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 17:49

@trebless definitely! A lot of people have said that how we saw him on Love Island isn't what he was like at all! It was a really bad portrayal oh him by the sounds of it.

I've never watched celebs go dating to be fair so I dunno how he came across on there

hereforagoodtime · 17/03/2019 17:49

This has really touched me. Such a young, good looking and so much going for him. I feel really sad that he thought this was the only way out, also for his family

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 17:54

@hereforagoodtime I know, it's awful! I think this will touch a lot of people to be honest!

Yes, there's been some men committing suicide in the past few years but I think it is different because he was so young

OP posts:
TeachesOfPeaches · 17/03/2019 17:55

84 men per week kill themselves. Hopefully this will prompt some to speak out before it's too late.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 17:57

@TeachesOfPeaches I really hope so!

OP posts:
icanthelpyou · 17/03/2019 18:01

We’ve had a suicide in the family and I was really surprised by how much she wasn’t helped by the people quick to put up ‘our door is always open’ fb posts. The door certainly wasn’t open, she was released from hosp as low risk Hmm Just awful.

dragonsfire · 17/03/2019 18:04

This is very sad and tragic but I wouldn’t say Love Island are to blame or something they could have prevented.

He had a very promising football career which came to an end due to injury in 2014 - he found ‘fame’ on love island in 2017 (which he embrassed others on it have stepped out of limelight) his best friend died at Xmas and his Nan who he cared for few days ago but also he was due to open a restaurant in next couple of weeks so had forward plans.

There was a lot going on before love island and in his personal life after, we will never truly know what demons were there.

My best friends brother killed himself at Christmas no one could have seen it coming, he had a good job, girlfriend, close family but demons sneak up on people. Unfortunately until can get people comfortable speaking about their mental health a lot hide it until it’s too late.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 18:14

@icanthelpyou oh I'm sorry to hear about this!
It's awful isn't it! What state of mind must you be in to be an 'urgent case' ?!

@dragonsfire I know, it's hard. A lot of people used to say to me 'oh, what have you got to be depressed about?' Or 'nothing bad has happened, you've had a good childhood, had everything you've wanted'
But sometimes I suppose these things can just happen, which is what I'm starting to realise and there might not necessarily be anything significant to have happened to you for you to have to suffer with anxiety / depression.

OP posts:
hereforagoodtime · 17/03/2019 18:18

I have always suffered from depression, i have been doing okay in recent months but this seems to have really triggered something for me.

JustBeenNosey · 17/03/2019 18:24

@hereforagoodtime me tooThanks (flowers and hugs for you)

I know we've said that a lot of people throw this around and use it very loosely but if anyone is suffering or this has hit them quite hard, feel free to send me a PM and we can have a chat about anything.. just try and take your mind off it or something.

I feel like I've been doing really well this past few months but Wednesday/Thursday last week, I felt like I had abit of a blip but this news this weekend seems to have just hit me and I just feel I need to pull head from out of my arse and kinda get over it and tell myself that life isn't that bad. I've got a job. I've got a house over my head. I'm alive and I'm healthy.

It's not that Love Island are to blame but that this has happened twice tells its own tale.

Love Island as a production creates narratives for the individuals on it, to keep viewers hooked, it's HEAVILY edited, and often contestants are asked to reshoot conversations for extra drama or better camera angles

The individuals find themselves cast as Nice Girls and Guys Next Door or Bitches and Players and how they are typecast that way and they don't really know how they have been perceived til they leave - and then typically, find a shitstorm waiting for them

One of this years crop, there were various disparaging articles about her life and how her family felt about it all. They become tabloid fodder.

Then add in social media posts and see thousands of strangers @'ing you and calling you a slag

The gullible "just want to be famous crowd" really aren't expecting either the deluge of hatred or the deluge of people who want a piece of you because they liked you on TV OR finding in the interim that people you called close friends have sold you for a story.

The sudden rush of popularity of Love Island 3 years or so ago means that the production DOES know what their contestants will face upon leaving the villa, and the aftercare in both the short AND long term seems negligible

There's an ITV show that famously offers its cannon fodder counselling regularly.

My counsellor was asked to provide them with counselling. How much were they willing to fund she asked ?

A single session!

She declined

There's your aftercare
