Smile

Sorry been unfaithful, lots going on. But making myself useful - here's your new thread x

OP posts:
shodatin · 09/12/2011 17:56

Hope everyone else has had a good day - I finally managed to buy correct compost (to plant out Pak Choi, hob, still at seedling stage for various reasons) and collected a copper wreath -support from Gdn Centre which is exactly same diameter as pot and I hope will keep Slugs of Doom away. Thai friend lost all hers to the little horrors, so hope mine survive.
Also managed to complete eleven home-made cards, started yesterday as OT for DB but got very little accomplished until today. I like to make just a few for special people who appreciate something original and/or green, although this years were only reassembled and recycled rather than an original design, and I really have to write them this weekend, so am pleased I managed enough by end of today.

Upwardandonward · 09/12/2011 19:10

That sounds like a full day, shodatin. I hope the copper works with the slugs. Good going on the cards, I'm starting with the address labels for mine first.

Hope everyone's ok.

cityhobgoblin · 09/12/2011 22:17

Deeply sorry for complete lack of posting The extra moss placed over me in nestbox helped me sleep till afternoon on Wednesday ,then had PC problems again , preventing posting . It was upsetting to see shodatin's concern worry for DB and upward's great achievement in completing & to sending in form the same day, and not be able to say say anything - and the awful gales also .

So glad you were able to persuade DB to visit , shodatin , let alone make Christmas cards with you . 11 is amazing , especially with the mentaf energy needed to recycle .

Sorry the medication is causing extra tiredness, upward . Hope increase in yours proves helpful & not too uncomfortable , shodatin .

Glad you had sun today, Tianc, and thank you for all the cheering , calming and amusing posts this week < HF purrs at all the mentions here >

Very good to hear of consultant's drop -in , upward and I wonder if we can think of anything your DB might be able to ask for from from MIND groups etc , 8shodatin* - so sorry his support has been cut

Days feeling more manageable thank you shodatin . Things feel more relaxed as DH's work is less frantic now ( and am trying not to get too irritated and pompous with family problems Blush ) Am relieved as last few months have felt very pressured , in a low achieving way ...have put off loads of scary appts till New Year which I wantewd over with by Xmas , but next week will go to get advice / make appts Smile

Have had a very good 3 days , & surprised to have managed one of the big outings of the year - we were unexpectedly able to "take"DM to a local town's "Christmas evening" with stalls , carols and a huge Xmas tree "festival"in a church - work / health / distance usually prevent us going < wishes timemachine could take us all >

DM managed to cope with phobia of train travel including very long delays due to accident on line - am thrilled she wanted to attempt it ..

Amazing moonlight here - next door's tomcat's white bib and gaiters shone blue outdoors earlier
Most peaceful night to us all

shodatin · 09/12/2011 22:50

So pleased to hear from you again hob, and that you've had a good few days. Seems a good idea to make plans for the New Year, and wish you lots of inspiration.

DB does have a friend who works at Mind, but I understand there's not much available at present, plus HCPs who are still around seem limited to urging voluntary work; not much around in run-up to Christmas and still stressful due to lack of confidence, but am hopeful of New Year changes, and thankyou for kind concern.

Good for you (and DH) for managing to get DM to special Christmas occasion, it will be something to remember when the weather makes travel difficult.

Best wishes for card addresses upward, such a chore getting list up-t0-date and hoping no-one's been forgotten.
Will say "goodnight", sleep well everyone.

Tianc · 10/12/2011 00:25

[slacker]

Quick goodnight wave (and glimpse of next doors' tomcat gleaming in the moonlight). Sleep well all.

shodatin · 10/12/2011 10:15

Another one here mesmerised by colour of tom-cat, must have looked extremely smart, and wondered if he noticed this about himself? Hope wounds are now completely healed and no longer in sight.
A starry night and a sunny morning, plus I woke thinking it was Sunday, and find I have extra weekend! (Old lady thing not knowing what day it is, so hope no-one's going to ask me today). Anyone for {brew]s?

Upwardandonward · 10/12/2011 10:27

Thanks for the Brew shodatin Smile

I think it's rather nice when that happens (and it's not just an old lady thing Blush )

Thanks hob - if the increased tiredness/head continues, I'll get it checked out, as I can't see a reason for it. I'm so glad things seem more manageable, and putting stuff off til after Christmas is good, as letters etc can be so delayed over Christmas.

shodatin · 10/12/2011 13:29

Sorry I couldn't manage to make the Brew, upward, but the thought was there.
Hope the tiredness gets easier, otherwise it should be checked out, life is sometimes slow enough on a good day, and I get cross with myself when tired.
Have postponed card-writing quite long enough, so will postpone seedlings for another day or will never be finished. Frosty here today, so am looking forward to seeing stars tonight, and any blue cats which may be around the garden after dark.

cityhobgoblin · 10/12/2011 18:25

Thank you for warming [brews], shodatin , and hope we're all're warm enough at all times in very cold snap .. qagree not an old lady thing at all , btw agreething

Am annoyed with self for forgetting to thank you for news of seedlings and precautions against SoD ... was sure I had written that
Hope the symptoms turn out to be caused by something minor , upward , and agree would be wise to have checkup as we nall dread needing doctors over lon holiday
< waves to Tianc >
Moonlit tomcat is self assured but not arrogant [fsmoile]He looks particularly smart on neighbours' 8ft feet wall , under a starry sky
Christmas tasks standstill here tooTianc ... hope you regain some energy very soon

Sorry mad rush and sleepiness today Brew to all

Upwardandonward · 10/12/2011 20:00

I hope you got the cards done that you wanted to, shodatin

Bit of a mixed day, realised I last showered Tuesday and that I'm not keen on the idea (silly, I know). At least it's the weekend.

shodatin · 10/12/2011 23:23

Good to have news of neighbours' tomcat and his recovery - does he climb up the 8ftwall I wonder? Aren't they amazing athletes, even after injury.

I had about four hours on cards today and almost finished, so am very pleased with self; hate getting behind as it takes so much energy to make up. Just an idea upward, but I've sometimes got behind on the showering for just this reason: not enough energy left to climb into the bath! Don't know how I'd manage without the day (or two) off at weekends, and yes, I was pleased to find I'd got an "extra" day.

Still very cold here, glad I got curtain linings finished and so is DB, I hear. Am off back to bed (too late for the shower but enough time tomorrow), so will say goodnight all, and hope the stars are out in the cybergarden.

Tianc · 11/12/2011 01:20

That's magnificent news about DM's trip out, hob! Such an achievement to overcome her phobia, and it sounds a lovely day out when you got there. So glad DH's work is easing off a little now, goodness knows you've had enough on your plates the last few months.

Upward sorry you're much more tired than expected. Hope it resolves, but getting checked does sound sensible. Did you get out in that sunshine, Friday? I wonder what the trees are doing where you are? Still some leaves here, although I'm hoping they go soon and let the light through.

Also glad I'm not the only shower-slacker.Blush Some days the exertion is just a thing too far, isn't it? Still, I reckon we're not exactly hurtling round working up a sweat...

Hope the "extra day" is restful and cosy, shodatin, now that you're caught up and actually ahead of yourself.

shodatin · 11/12/2011 10:09

What a lovely place this is, even on a cold and misty morning, tianc has managed to make it warm and welcoming. Kettle is on for Brews, biscuit tin out for those who like a small something, and all is well in this small corner, at least I hope it is, and that everyone had a restful night and something good to look forward to today.

Upwardandonward · 11/12/2011 12:27

Thanks for the Brew , shodatin, much welcomed. Four hours of cards is impressive! :)

Tianc · 11/12/2011 16:57

Ooh Brew! And Biscuit!

shodatin · 11/12/2011 17:27

Just surfacing again after another four hours (almost uninterrupted) finishing all the cards, including some extras I could have finished later. Another age waiting in the P.O queue to have some weighed individually and it will be over again for another year. Can't really complain as I love to receive cards, and even enjoy writing some letters, it's just finding time before last posting date
(which I think was last week for some of them, but trying not to think about that).

cityhobgoblin · 11/12/2011 22:42

Amazed at your marathon efforts & achievement, shodatin . How lovely to give something unique .

Oh noooo , upward . I know how miserable neighbour noise can be , as I'm sure we all do , and hope neighbours wake up to their thoughtlessness very soon . ,Hope tiredness hasn't spoiled your day , and that you have a cfew treats lined up for Christmas season - I think you have a small visitor due this week & might offer them a chance to hang Christmas baubles ?

< waves to restful Tianc > < comforting thoughts & topup of srengthening vibes if you're far more tird than hoped >

So sorry for silence yet again Sad I look at thread when get up ( in cosy nestbox half the day this week ) then try to write something coherent ... my brain still doesn't seem able to squeeze out a concise hello which is so silly as we don't need to say much to keep each other company . Another one here incredibly glad of friendly cybergarden .

Weight of busyness much lifted here Grin but rest needed. I so hear you all about shower / energy ratio - it's always the first thing to go here , and I'm an absolute hygiene obsessive but if have to choose where the energy is spent , sleep / little outing do take priority

Been listening to Messiah & different choirs make some of the , erm , passages ? sound oddly exultant ( even "He was despised .." , Tianc ) We like to go to the loAbbey near wwhere we used to live to hear it , but obviously that's a big treat & can't be done every year < HF brings us time machine so we can all get there >

< mulled [brews] or upward*s magic brew and low fat wholemeal gingerbread all round >

Hope kizzie & madmouse families are OK ... thinking of you at stressful time ,kizzie

shodatin · 11/12/2011 23:31

Hope you managed a restful day hob, it seems to take me days to get into a relaxed state, as not enough spare time here either.
So sorry about noisy neighbours upward, and hob's right about how miserable it can be. I've never found the right words to say on these occasions, spending far too long devising dreadful deaths for perpetrators (most unQuakerly) and can feel real hate for them. Hope it's quieter tonight - do you have earmuffs or a scarf to tie in place?
Wholemeal gingerbread does sound good, and reminds me I have some spiced apple cake in fridge to eat. Many thanks for Brew too, fancy one of the magic varieties I think, maybe lemon and honey for a change.

shodatin · 12/12/2011 00:23

Will say goodnight now, sleep well all.

Tianc · 12/12/2011 02:04

Argh argh argh. Have been fine today but wrestling with power bills for the last 5 hours - those damn direct debits where you can't tell whether you're coming or going but somehow the power company ends up with most of your money, most of the time. With my spreadsheets I shall defeat them or be carried off in hysterics.

May I very selfishly bustle into the quiet place, seize a much needed restorative Brew and gingercake (yum), and go flump?

Feeling your pain about noisy neighbours, Upward. And indeed the hatred, shodatin. No jury on earth would convict...

Sorry you're so jolly sleepy at the mo, hob - your long posts are lovely, but don't ever feel you have to do more than wave... Smile

Just time to turn down the lamp and plump the cushions for tomorrow. Hope everyone gets undisturbed sleep tonight...

shodatin · 12/12/2011 09:28

Morning all - good to see the sun yet again, after a cold, starry night here. Hope everyone slept well, particularly upward who needed the break from noise, and tianc who needed break from power bills and accounting. I don't do it anymore, I'm ashamed to admit, just keep a running total in chequebook so I don't go over, but have resisted direct debits until this year, so not too many and certainly don't need five hours of my time (which has been spent messing about with Christmas cards this year, much more pleasurable).
Hope we all have a good day, with something nice in there - meanwhile have just made usual espresso (or magic mixtures, as required) for any visitors.

Upwardandonward · 12/12/2011 09:35

It was a quiet night last night, thankfully.

Thanks for the Brew shodatin

That sounds exhausting, tianc - I switched to monthly readings with variable direct debits so i'm only paying for what I use (but your way does spread the payments more evenly).

I had visitors last weekend, hob - he did a very good job of pointing where to put the decs :)

I hope nobody gets the bad weather this week

shodatin · 12/12/2011 15:47

Am exhausted again, just a busy day and struggling to speak/understand another language for a couple of hours, too old for this now! Got back from supermarket and PO in time for lunch, to find DSis had sent five emails and who-knows-how-many photos of grandchildren, who had all been on a Disney cruise, then new helper arrived...
really looking forward to bed, and it's almost dark enough, whatever the clock says
Had not realised we're due for bad weather, upward, but am luckily now well-stocked for the holidays, apart from petrol and fresh produce.
Glad the noise has stopped upward, it's really anti-social and not much one can do to stop it.

cityhobgoblin · 12/12/2011 21:39

Hope you feel better after a good nap , shodatin What a day , and am in awe of your having finished laying in non -perishables in . Yournew carer must need lots of induction , and hope s/he turns out to be a good fit with you & your home .
Ooooooh , is this the language of the country you used to live in , whhich I'm so nosey about ? < mangles grammar > . I "lost" a great deal of my native language & struggle with relearning , due to memory problems now , so am thrilled & inspired that you can manage in reasonable fashion < toasts achievement & diligence in Brew of appropriate nation >

5 hellish hours , Tianc < endurance medal > < BrewHighlights with flumps all round > I 've been letting DH deal with too much of the paperwork , and intend to knuckle down this year and be a proper grownup. Bills are scary enough when paying is as simple as it ought to be .

Lots of impromptu sleep here , with many apologies again for non appearance ( I will do better , I promise ) plus disorganisation meant I probably let down a friend over a small task I said I'd help with today

Feeling nervous for people / animals out in vicious gales . Really hope all stay safe tonight .

So relieved you had a quiet night last night , upward , and were aided in your decorating by young helperXmas Grin
Phew , DH has got in safely from stormy walk back from work

shodatin · 12/12/2011 22:23

Bad weather has arrived; been listening to gale as it hammers my Christmas star against the door, no doubt knocking bits loose like last time - I shall be left with a "sun" in the morning, with pointy-bits scattered around the drive.
Glad your DH got home safely hob, one always worries about flying chimney-pots (or I do). No exotic languages involved today, just lovely person struggling with English while I felt and looked a bit vacant sometimes. It's only for a few weeks, and better than coping by
myself while regular helper is away.
Am hoping gale abates before bedtime, otherwise shall be sitting up in bed with light on rather than trying to sleep or risking being awoken by noise.
Hope you all have a peaceful night in various parts of the country
