Sorry been unfaithful, lots going on. But making myself useful - here's your new thread x

OP posts:
Tianc · 30/11/2011 00:05

Good but very busy day here, so shattered.

Can I just do one of those thingies?

Upwardandonward · 30/11/2011 08:20

That's a shame about your water, shodatin - it will be interesting to see if it just heats enough for the cup, or heats the whole lot (hope it's the former).

Good to see you, tianc Thanks for the light and the Brew

I hope everyone wakes afreshed.

shodatin · 30/11/2011 09:53

Thanks for the wave, tianc, also info that you've been really busy and plan to rest for a while, so happy holing-up in your nice nest and hope you soon feel better.

It would indeed be interesting about the quantities of water upward, and look forward to more info when you've had time to experiment - no urgency here though, as I know you already have tidying-up plans. Mine should start today, as soon as I've finished the last curtain linings which had to be postponed while I got DB's ready - am actually looking forward to doing something physical, and without blood on my hands.
Hope you have a worthwhile tidyup, and will check in again later. Meanwhile, am sure it's more than my turn for a tray of Brews, so wish us all enough energy.

cityhobgoblin · 30/11/2011 10:27

Shock Blood on your hands , shodatin ? I've missed something - have you been pricked by the wicked fairy godmother , or injured your fingertips whilst finishing DB's curtain's ? < HF on standby to hop back into time machine , if the former >

ooooh upward , lovely machine . I hadn't seen one before and it looks very economical as well as brilliantly safe & convenient . Looking at its details gave me a silly grin , which is my test of whether I really like a gadget , & good to see the price on Amazon , as I often automatically discount idea of buying an item as RRP extortionate , forgetting the smarter options .

Hope you're not wiped out by extra busy week , shodatin . Your water does sound odd tasting - round here it tastes strong too. We've given in to the eco - unfriendly , dubious delights of bottled water after DH had bad bouts of kidney stones & hospital warned him not to drink the very hard local tap water , but we ought to look again at how much of the calciferous stuff filters can actually remove .

< waves > at Tianc and salutes her toils . Hope you feel uplifted by today's coming together of various groups

Mserably sorry for no goodnight , yet again- as was a very long meeting , with lots of interesting debate & feel optimistic for the future of gender equality now Grin... fell asleep on sofa without having made any meal . Managed to accomplish a very scary task indeed < smug >

Thank you for making me giggle about my house cleaning ,shodatin .. sorry can't give you further fascinating deetails of my mess now , overslept & need to go to demo & rally in town , but will describe problem for you later , thank you Grin

Hope no significant disruption in your town upward - what was being predicted ? A large rally in centre ? There shouldn't be any traffic problems etc as police are notified well in advance , route practised , etc , so the only annoyance caused should be from the sound of all that zestful chanting of united workers ( paid and unpaid ) and on this occasion ,lots of their DC... some inner city rallies might have neo nazis come to intimidate , but unions & police know of that threat.

BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew May I pretentiously propose a a toast to unity , lovely people , though not of course to the need to strike

Upwardandonward · 30/11/2011 11:15

It's not just a rally in the centre - they've got education workers, health workers and council workers marching in from 3 different points outside the centre, then meeting at a point just outside the centre before going in. The only people encouraged to meet at the centre of town are disabled people, the streets are quite tight in the centre. Only unfortunate thing is the route knocks out the buses through the centre (bus lanes closed and bus stops moved temporarily), and those coming in fron the east and southeast - most of the buses start/finish in the centre. That's a lot of waffle, but the same has happened before as the centre is a travel bottleneck.

I do support the people striking (many of my friends), and I hope yours goes smoothly, hob.

Thanks for the Brew Brew shodatin and hob I'm counting down the minutes to 11:30 when I can have a bagel (practicing restraint ;) ).

I hope the curtain linings/tidying goes well today, shodatin .

tianc , I hope you had a restful night.

cityhobgoblin · 30/11/2011 17:47

So sorry for the my chippy tone Shock , upward - from previous things you've said I certainly thought you'd be supporting today's actions . I was forgetting the design of your city , & how unsuited to mass actions . Hope it went well there , and your friends felt revitalised by the gathering .

< faints at idea of restraint with food > < cheers on *upward in awe >

Went great here , well over double the numbers expected , & series of impromptu UK uncut demos & march after , with - lots of off -school kids- 'twas like the pied piper

Grumpy workman wants to come at crack of dawn Friday ( did change it from today ), so I may be only able to wave till then < chokes self on cleaner fumes >

Hope the hard work went well , shodatin < & you can relax this evening .
Best wishes to you , Tianc - hoping you feel infused with renewed faith in human nature by today .

Tianc · 30/11/2011 21:07

Blood on your hands? Worried now, shodatin...

Upwardandonward · 30/11/2011 21:12

I didn't think you were being chippy, hob - I'm very aware that posts can easily be read different ways as you don't get the emotion behind it (if any).

I'm glad your numbers were so good, hob - I've had mixed reports with some saying that there wasn't as many as they'd thought, but others were held up on the buses for 30 mins+

Crack of dawn Friday seems very early, good luck with that.

shodatin , I hope you've had a productive day. tianc , I hope you've had a relaxing day.

Thanks for the Brew

shodatin · 30/11/2011 21:56

Hands are healing thankyou hob, just caught myself a few times with curtains, but am touched that HF would actually get out the time machine to help me if necessary. So pleased you managed one of the scary things, so congratulations, and you deserve something nicer than an appointment at dawn on Friday. I suppose it's worthwhile looking forward to the weekend, when
you'll be able to relax and even sleep in again.

I'm back on filtered water again, which makes a big difference in price and convenience after years on bottled due to health problems. Nowadays it's worth reading small print on various filters as they are improved.

Thanks for the mug of onward's special brew, hits the spot after today's clearing up plus gift-wrapping of the most necessary things - saves hiding gifts from visitors or having to post them later as not ready.

Hope everyone's had a good day and able to rest, but will say "goodnight" now or will just have to do a wave if any later.

Tianc · 01/12/2011 00:04

Right, reading properly now.

hob you were absolutely bang on yesterday, as always. Feeling a bit burnout after too much political stuff (nowhere near what you achieve), on top of a spate of probs on house, on top of which I haven't actually finished the previous round of dealing with Difficult Person and another round is already looming.

So definitely "meh". And on top of all this I've been trying to pretend that nothing's wrong, so alternately blaming myself for weakness and feeling pathetically sorry for myself.Grin

Why I couldn't just say all this earlier I have no idea...

Tianc · 01/12/2011 00:42

Ouch ouch ouch, shodatin! Shock That's some sacrifice for DB's curtains. So glad you're healing, I hope it was nothing too deep? (And have just remembered you were handsewing, so you probably didn't put your finger through the machine... )

Congrats on scary task and on political stuff, hob. Wow, just wow.

Upward, ooh, loving the hotwater dispenser! Looks like a big advance on the Tefal Quick Cup, which I considered and rejected for not producing 100° C water. Eagerly awaiting your review of it now.

Hope we all sleep well, and are tucked up safe as the gales reach us all.

shodatin · 01/12/2011 10:19

Many thanks for posting tianc, particularly while trying to pretend that all is well plus dealing with Difficult Person, you still found time and sympathy for hob's cleaning efforts, and I particularly like the empathy in The Space Behind The Telly - oh horrors! Would this garment help, I wonder, with The Space Under The Fridge, which "only needs boarding up"? Because I have the choice of either bending over or breathing, it still needs boarding up, but can't remember where I put the bio-hazard suit, which is probably festering quietly at Spider HQ, wherever that is these days.
Let's all sit down with a Brew and discuss something more cheerful, before getting on with horrible chores ( and horrible people if necessary).

No gale damage that I know of, but had to take in my decorative Star which was banging on the front door after I was in bed, and then had dozed off while sitting up with crossword, gale raging, to be woken by a female calling my name. I thought it was my neighbour, but no further calls, so must have dreamed it. A bit upsetting at the time, but I remembered to say "Rabbits" to myself, so all should be well this month, as I hope it is for everyone else.
Am about to make usual espresso, plenty available along with usual choc biscuits (and bagels for people who are serious about slimming, applauds upward.)

cityhobgoblin · 01/12/2011 11:01

< hygienically masked hob is winched back from dusty Space Behind the Telly >
< places biohazard suit into sealed incineration capsule >
< weeps to hear of the Space Under the Fridge > -that sounds truly hideous , shodatin ...I vote for boarding over and hoping nothing gnaws through, as it would here

Indeed you understand the horrors , Tianc ! Thank you for making the Battle of the Objects almost a group endeavour & fun for us all- I mean it , tales olike shodatin's just now have made me approach horrid stuff with

Thank you so much for espresso & free run of your biscuit tin ,, shodatin.
< a punch and a kick for being so quick , shodatin > hmmm, must search back tos ee which form of traditional greeting was friendlierGrin

Thank you lovely upward for automatoically giving me the benefit of the doubt over yesterday's email , wasrelieved . March etc was v . great success here , but it's a rebidly Thatcherite area , where v hard to attract people for march tpro -V NHS march etc . The rally hall was only able to hols d a third of the marchers , and many westayed on picket lines amnyway .

Was very clumsy of me to speculate like that ,Tianc , & thank you for managing not to be irritated with me instead , considering how much you've been dealing with . but I thought I recognised the symptoms . Many ((( )))) on having renewed bouts of from Difficult Person , which eats up energy like nothing else . I know you were worried your attempted strategies might not work out , but as your aims are no doubt healthy and ethical , you can't be doing the wriong things , except you will of course have the tedious task of being hyper vigilant about your energies . Very sorry to hear you've had further house problms < hob starts positive incantations>
Sorry , let's return to cheerful subjects as shodatin suggests

< HF trots in carrying healing cream for shodatin's hands > Thank you for making a fuss of me for managin scary task , shodatin , Iand hope you have a satisfying time doing your practical chores , but please take time to loaf about a bit too.

How unnerving in the night - have regularly thought I heard some familiar voice or other addressing me as was waking , but 'tis a trick of the senses. < HF records tape of her impressive "double purring" to drown out sound of high winds . Had to take down numerous jolly decorative items hung round house by landlady's family as were so loud in windy weather ,

Hope we all have a good day , and thinking as ever of of kizzie and madmouse amd NanaNina
.

Upwardandonward · 01/12/2011 16:56

I'm glad that your hands are recovering after the curtains shodatin, and that they weren't too sore. That's good to know about water filters, have to see what mine is like. Congrats on getting on with the wrapping, I'm not quite that far on yet.

I hope that dealing with Difficult Person goes as well as it can, tianc , that can be so stressing, particularly if the issues are repetitive. I'm sorry you're not winning with the house.

Once I've worked at where to put the water heater, I'll definiteily say how it goes - it has a v short lead so I need to get an extension (plus not sure I want to set it up before DN comes to visit - last time he was here there's was barely furniture, so I'm waiting to see what proves most attractive now ;) ).

The denizens in your kitchen sound slightly scary, hob I'm glad to hear your getting tasks done!

If the bins weren't overflowing, my sitting room is just about tidy, so it's tidy with bags of rubbish instead (been full since Saturday, can't see when they come).

I hope everyone's had/is having a good day.

Upwardandonward · 01/12/2011 20:22

In case I don't come back this eve, good luck with the early start, hob , hope it's not too chilled.

cityhobgoblin · 01/12/2011 20:35

Snap upward* with the bags of rubbish ... they halved the size of bins and even with lots of recycling , we find we generate far too much ( I know in your case it's a collection issue and I hope you find out they come very soon)

Yes , am concerned about this horrible situation for Tianc , and hope she's had a reasonable day , having made us smile as usual on here.

Grin Your DN sounds great fun but oh my , so much to protect him from , quite daunting . Looking forward to hearing your reviews , & thanks to you & shodatin for reminding me to try again with a filter jug .

GrinBlush We live by woodland and everyone round here gets whiskery little visitors ... we'll have to call in the murderous solution nextSad or they'll gnaw through every wire /carpet/joist (truly!)thing is , I should have had house nooks & crannies ready for that to be done before tomorrow's workman , who might very well report us to the agents ( made up a petty lie about me to a previous letting agent years ago )... have let dh down ,as usual , with this stuff , but he's so supportive < feels guiltier > < counts incredible blessings[smile>
< gets back into biohazard suit >

Hope shodatin has been having a reasonable day , with the prospect of frivolity at some point during the week
upward's lovelyBrew to us all

cityhobgoblin · 01/12/2011 20:59

PS 8upward* < forgot to say "denizens" made me roarGrin < attempts kitchen once more >

Upwardandonward · 01/12/2011 21:45

Definitely hugs to tianc - peace and quiet in the cybergarden this evening.

Hope everyone has a good night :)

shodatin · 01/12/2011 23:23

Just enjoyed reading posts, after a few hours away, and hope all went well for everyone after busy days. My hands are much improved, thankyou, and it's my own fault for not bothering to use thimble, but lovely people have not mentioned this, so thanks again.

Had much experience of unwelcome visitors at last two rural homes, including council pest operatives who used little bags of ?pellets called Nesorex, thrown into all small spaces and near "runs". Second time, I just bought more of the same (from local farm-suppliers)
which worked perfectly well, and am wondering if this might be quick and simple answer - obviously not quite quick enough to deal with beasties before tomorrow's inspection. Shame this person's been unpleasant earlier hob, and I do hope he's improved.

Love the idea of HF doing double-purring to drown out the noise of the gales, and glad you've managed to record it. I know I still go on about my beagle, but he learned to purr from our cat and spent most evenings sitting between us and purring as DH scratched him absentmindedly while reading a book.

Thanks for good wishes everyone, and extra thanks to Hob for suggestion of frivolity, which I'll think about.

shodatin · 01/12/2011 23:58

A quick goodnight wave to all - sorry, tired.

cityhobgoblin · 02/12/2011 01:27

Thank you for calming post , upward , & hope you sleep well. Likewise shodatin for your goodnight wave

Absolutely hooting here at your purring beagle boy , shodatin . Feel like going to wake dh just to tell him Grin ...learnt from the cats !!!! I will remember that forever . Peaceful night to you , and inspiration for your much - deserved frivolity

( Thank you so much for remembering brand name , shodatin ,wow , and that it's cheaper at farm shop - I should have thought of that . Have finally resorted to poison , but the fast acting type - found a couple who've left this life mid - run Sad , which I hope means it all happened quickly ).

Well -earned rest to Tianc, I hope , who has been putting her eloquence to brilliant use & is probably exhausted from recent efforts anyway... I know that thread has filled up with trolls , but I saw a poster say the other day that for every poster , there are a thousand lurking ,if that's any consolation ( well , quite a few on that board anyway )

Still tidying Blush but has been a cheery day thanks to cybergardeners . Sleep well all

Tianc · 02/12/2011 01:27
shodatin · 02/12/2011 10:42

Morning all, am a bit later than usual, having just ignored the alarm and in desparate need of espresso (enough for all, of course). Hope all went well first thing today hob,and that maybe relationship has improved?

You're all right about the boarding up, and when DB's depression allows, will certainly ask, once I've sorted out materials of course (still behind on tidying etc) and glad tianc's house is now getting better faster.

Yes, upward, hope door now fixed indeed, you've been so patient.

Upwardandonward · 02/12/2011 11:50

I'm just going to this morning (door was finally fixed on Wed)

Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew
