All are welcome!

We’re a friendly group that uses Fasting in one form or another to help or maintain our weight loss. We all have our ups and downs, and welcome insights from others and laughter along the way.

Summer's round the corner so let's enjoy getting our bodies ready for June, whatever that means to each of us!

Fridays are our informal day for weighing-in (optional) and reflecting on the week – often with ideas for self-care and new goals in the coming week.

We cheer each other on, and commiserate when things don't go to plan.

If you’re new to this group, do introduce yourself and share your hopes and plans.

And welcoming regulars to our new thread...

Hello to our regulars

@loveyouradvice do hope you are recovering? Sounds grim.

Yesterday I had an omelette at noon and chicken and veg for dinner as planned. Finished eating by 6.15pm.

Just had protein pancakes with fresh strawberries (from the market this morning, they were delicious) and Greek yoghurt. So that was a 17 hour fast.

Dinner will be an omelette of some sort as the egg situation can be described as 'plentiful'. 😁

I'm playing it by ear at the moment and so far so good.

loveyouradvice · 14/05/2025 12:42

I'm feeling rather foolish, but not sure there's anything I could have done differently... just unfortunate. And bless them, two young women took the time to tell me how elegant I looked falling, almost as if it was choreographed.

So - I've just been stitched up by a plastic surgeon and told to take things easy for the next week (strictly no dancing or strenuous activity!!) as it's trauma to the head as well as a cut through to the bone. And there I was thinking dancing was good for me!!

Good to see so much chat on here, and new voices - welcome @Octopus45 and great to hear how things are progressing for you @Mull and @tiredwitless

Loving that sleepy time song and it's backing group @HarpQuartet and congrats on THIRD week of Couch to 5k

Good luck with fasting today @Clearingaspace - do come and tell us how it is going. And congrats @IDareSay - sounds delcious and healthy!

Hoping hoping hoping that @ItRainsItPours and @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans are managing a little self-care alongside DC exam stress - Good luck to you both and look forward to hearing more when you are both back on here.

Hello is it too late to join? I need help to lose weight 🤦🏼‍♀️

loveyouradvice · 14/05/2025 15:28

never too late @debsiedora - you are very welcome. Have a read of this thread and you'll get a feel for us. Come on and tell us where you are on the eating journey, where you want to get to and what you're going to do this week ... as little or as much as feels good for you

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 16:03

Elegant even while falling @loveyouradvice , glad to hear from you ♥️

Ok, bit of a serious Note to Self here: I've been eating enough for two or three people recently 😞 I'm such a basket case sometimes. So just saying on here: I will not eat anything else until dinner time.

It's only a couple of hours and I need proper "dinner" calories more than I need biscuit calories.

The actual fasting is manageable, next I need to crack not being a gannet.

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 16:04

Do you keep chickens @IDareSay ? Wondering about your plentiful egg situation (sorry, you may have explained it and I've forgotten).

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 16:05

Oooh exam time!!! All good vibes to Junior Stealth and Junior Rains!

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 16:07

How's your day going, @Clearingaspace ? And welcome @debsiedora 😊

IDareSay · 14/05/2025 16:17

Sadly not @HarpQuartet I think our two terriers would complain!

We seem to be feast or famine with eggs in this house; 3 dozen or none Grin

Clearingaspace · 14/05/2025 20:44

Yes good luck examers! junior-clearing 2 had her first A-level exam and came home pretty happy🤞

@HarpQuartet i have eaten too much today also, I added seedy toast in for the fibre and not sure it’s a good idea! Also I think k mini fasts in between meals is a good thing but very difficult! I am Fasting now, as had a late lunch; unfortunately a pesky free latte when shopping means I am only at 3 hours ish now. Aiming for water only this evening.

@IDareSay protein pancakes with strawberries sounds delicious

@debsiedora welcome to the thread!

@loveyouradvice i hope you are feeling ok and resting. I am imagining elegant falling - arm dramatically aloft, toes pointed and maybe a swishy skirt? Or maybe you were giving Kate winslet as Marianne in sense and sensibility … get well soon and hopefully people are looking after you x

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 21:09

Aaah, exams in your house too, Clearing!! All the good luck wishes.

I've been eating a lot of wholemeal toast this week rather than see the bread go to waste and I'm kicking myself now.

Does anyone here wonder about Mounjaro and similar? I feel like maybe folk have chatted about them but I didn't pay attention as I wasn't interested, but right now my food noise is distressingly loud.

tiredwitless · 14/05/2025 21:34

Just lost my post somehow.. trying again!
checking in ..
19 hours today - skipped lunch, very busy didn’t feel that hungry. Only ate at 4ish due to having to drive for 2 hours and didn’t want to be overcome by starvation/ lightheadedness en route home.
@HarpQuartetand @Clearingaspace I’m also prone to eating lots of whole meal or seedy bread with butter or peanut butter.. including this evening. It’s so easy to do. At the moment I’m focusing on making fasting a habit and not being too worried about the food, but will have to focus more on that in time.
I think not eating after 8pm which is my usual cut off time has been so good for me - aside from weight loss - I go to bed earlier, sleep better, less heartburn, instead of munching in front of tv..
@loveyouradvice hope you are resting up and healing..
@debsiedorawelcome!

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 22:06

Nice fast, @tiredwitless

Just seen a headline that those who stop weight loss drugs regain the weight after a year. Which is exactly what's happened to me every time I've lost weight.

Clearingaspace · 15/05/2025 10:29

@HarpQuartet this is exactly what happens to me too when I lose weight. Mounjaro is very interesting and actually seems to have many positive side effects and is being studied I believe to assist with other medical conditions. I am trying to lose without it right now. My dh knows a few people who have used it and feel well on it, so he is happy for me to go on it if I decide to.

I am on my second kindle unlimited book on GLPs and this author is of the opinion people should taper off slowly once weight is lost, as although the short term effect of GLP in gut is positive, this may not be the case long term. The studies where weight was regained, individuals came off the drug on a high dose rather than tapering down. Studies have shown weight loss sustained when people stay on mounjaro. The author of the first book i read sees obesity as a relapsing condition and suggests people may need to stay on meds, as you would with many chronic conditions. Alternatively he suggests to take the drug with widening gaps or preemptively during holidays etc (you cant currently do this flexible approach in the uk if your weight goes below obese, not sure if it’s different in other countries?). But reading about Mounjaro is pretty interesting as it seems to have an anti inflammatory effect in the body beyond the benefits of simply eating less and losing weight.

Clearingaspace · 15/05/2025 10:35

@tiredwitless i am so with you about finishing eating early being so beneficial, it’s so weird as when I am in the zone I can’t understand why I do things like eat toast late at night. Well done on 19 hours, apparently autophagy kicks in at 17 hours so you potentially have benefited significantly.

HarpQuartet · 15/05/2025 10:47

@Clearingaspace thank you, good to know.

Doing my daily check in to say I've broken my fast excessively and am going to stop eating now for at least 5 hours.

Clearingaspace · 15/05/2025 10:59

Good luck with mini fast @HarpQuartet

Queendodo · 15/05/2025 11:04

Hello, hope it’s ok to join! I need to get back in to this so badly! I had really good results doing 5:2 before but have heavily fallen off the wagon into anything sugary. Am blaming perimeno - am like a woman possessed and can’t stop shoving food in my face. Did a FD Tuesday and came in around 800 cals, second FD today and have just had two coffees so far with a bit of milk. Haven’t read the thread so just jumping in - sorry to gatecrash.
I am 5ft3 and currently around 11.9lb (too scared to get on the scales)
Am going on holiday to Greece in July - will be very hot, requiring shorts and swimwear. Thought of that makes me want to cry currently!!
Was on these threads ages ago and found it useful to read others experiences and tips and to have somewhere to check in.

HarpQuartet · 15/05/2025 11:23

Hello @Queendodo , jumper-inners are very welcome 🤗

IDareSay · 15/05/2025 12:32

Welcome @Queendodo I hope you find posting on here as helpful as I am finding it.

So yesterday was protein pancakes with fresh strawberries and Greek yoghurt. Dinner was a 'chuck it all in' omelette with four eggs and I finished eating by 6pm.

Just had protein pancakes again with fresh strawberries (doubled the amount of strawberries now I know how low carb and calorie they are, and I have a lot of them!) and Greek yoghurt. So that was an 18 hour fast.

Dinner will be a chicken curry and as DH is cooking I will encourage him to crack on with it so we can eat at a sensible time Grin

Mull · 15/05/2025 16:22

Hi all, great daily messaging, I will commit to do that for the next week. @loveyouradvice I hope you are healing up and not feeling too sore.

@HarpQuartet I read your message about needing ‘dinner’ calories and was nodding along. At times I’ve been so possessed by the sugar demons that I just don’t end up eating meals. Just almost constant, sweet snacking. Dreadful really and, hopefully, I have changed that habit.

Weigh day for me and I have STS at 14.0 so I’m happy with that. I was pleased with how I dealt with some meals out while I was away, I ate more than normal, and could fast for less time, but I didn’t just think “f*ck it” and eat everything in sight.

So, next week I REALLY want to see 13.13. So I will log daily. Today:

Lunch at 12.00: Ham and cheese salad with leftover roasted veg wild rice thingy I made earlier in the week.

Snacks: 2 x tea with 1 sugar each

Dinner will be chilli with rice and some cheese on top. Should be finished by 6.30.

tiredwitless · 15/05/2025 22:43

Checking in again! Good fast today 18 hours. Thinking about making 18:6 my weekdays goal.
welcome to @Queendodo!
I would use Mounjaro if I needed to but would rather find a WOE that works for me if I can and seem to be finding it with fasting.
too tired to type more rn
sleep well everyone!

Clearingaspace · 16/05/2025 07:44

well done on 18 @tiredwitless

fri check in

sw 14 st 9
cw 13 st 13.5

NSV & Lifestyle stuff

  • 17 hour fasts done but didn’t get to 19
  • ate 48 plant foods (includes things like coffee, paprika and rye - not judt veg!)
  • 2 weights and 1 cycle workout - feeling fitter already
  • sleep has been poor so needs to be a priority
  • gums - ok but my electric toothbrush has run out of charge because I keep putting it on the charger and not turning it on!
next week I will try again on most of the above. I might focus on logging my calories rather than plants though …

happy Friday everyone

loveyouradvice · 16/05/2025 09:31

Lots of lovely long fasts happening on this thread - and I love the sound of protein pancakes with strawberries. I might just try those @IDareSay

And welcome @Queendodo - good to have you with us! And a sunny greek holiday in July sounds perfect - time enough to make a real difference and the joy of losing weight for a "looking good" purpose!! (Yup, I'm one who found it much easier to lose weight to look good at a college reunion than for my health!!). What's your plan? We'll cheer you on, so do come and share.

I so know that feeling of eating for 2 or 3 @HarpQuartet and breaking a fast much earlier than you hoped/planned. It's so interesting how sometimes doing this whole fast thing feels very easy and at other times so hard.

Good to hear of a happy junior clearing @Clearingaspace - good luck to them with the rest of their papers. And it sounds as if you have had a great week too! Darn impressive on the exercise front and how brilliant that you are already feeling fitter. I'll join you in the sleep focus this coming week - and the teeth!!.

@Mull congrats on eating well - that 13.13 is so tantalisingly close... I'm thinking this might be the week to make it happen! Good luck.

18:6 is sounding good @tiredwitless ... hope you get some good sleep this weekend.

Thanks for all the well wishes all - yes, it was quite dramatic and yes I was wearing a gorgeously swishy skirt @Clearingaspace (one of the joys of having lost the weight is how much Im enjoying clothes again) .... though I left the hall wrapped up with a head bandage like a WW2 soldier. And I've done lots of sofa resting since - Any ideas for light or funny movies deeply appreciated!! I enjoyed watching Spy yesterday.

Strangely there may have been a reason for my stumbling beyond the fast paced turning of the dance - they've found a small tumour in the front of my brain, the area connected to balance. They've sprung into action fast and been reassuring so far that the odds are very high that it is benign. I see the neurologist on Monday, so I'm aiming for lots of calming things until then.

And you won't be surprised to learn I've eaten rather more this week - both planned extra protein for the wound healing (yes, Im a vain old creature and loved my wrinkle-free forehead) and some unplanned extra dark chocolate/nuts for the reassurance... So hyper healthy but rather more than usual, and consciously decided to eat in 10 hour windows rather than my more normal 6-8 hours. I am feeling deeply grateful to fasting for providing me with such a great framework for eating, and being the springboard for me learning so much about how to eat to support my health.

My weekly weigh in:
SW: 14.2
CW: 11.4 so 2lb up from last week ( 6lbs up from 6 weeks ago but not worrying about that)
GW: 10.12.... REMINDER TO SELF: I was there, I can get back there!!
GW for this month: 11.2 : fairly relaxed especially given recent news, so may well aim to stay at 11.4 and see that as success
