All are welcome!

We’re a friendly group that uses Fasting in one form or another to help or maintain our weight loss. We all have our ups and downs, and welcome insights from others and laughter along the way.

Summer's round the corner so let's enjoy getting our bodies ready for June, whatever that means to each of us!

Fridays are our informal day for weighing-in (optional) and reflecting on the week – often with ideas for self-care and new goals in the coming week.

We cheer each other on, and commiserate when things don't go to plan.

If you’re new to this group, do introduce yourself and share your hopes and plans.

And welcoming regulars to our new thread...

Morning all, breaking my fast after 16 hours with yoghurt, fruit and nuts. Whatever else I might eat today, I've had a healthy start. Done some work, been for a walk, dancing later.

@tiredwitless my ideal bedtime is 9.30 😄

Clearingaspace · 10/05/2025 12:00

Well done on your weightloss @tiredwitless

thanks for the reminder @HarpQuartet, its tofu for my lunch 😬 so I will definitely eat dinner but will aim to be done as soon as possible before 8 so that I can have some kind of fast. Perhaps also a late breakfast on Sunday or skip to an early lunch

tiredwitless · 10/05/2025 12:10

Morning all
@HarpQuartet nothing wrong with 9.30 bedtime! Such a joy to go to bed sometimes. I find since I now (usually) stop eating at 8 I’m happier to go to bed early.
Sounds like you’ve had a lovely healthy start to your day!
I’ve been up and gone for a walk, breaking my fast - a smidgen early unfortunately at 15 hours 45 minutes - but just badly needed a tea with soya milk ( not the no sugar kind so I’m counting it as breaking), and I’m enjoying it as I type.
the weather is fab here (Ireland), hope it’s as good elsewhere!

HarpQuartet · 10/05/2025 14:13

Fark, I must have the world's stupidest fingers, just done the classic of writing a message then deleting it somehow. Anyway, I awarded you a star ⭐ @tiredwitless , it was indeed only a smidgen early, and a general hello.

HarpQuartet · 10/05/2025 14:16

I did also write about the song I've made up in praise of bedtime, so perhaps ny finger deleted the message to save me the embarrassment.

Clearingaspace · 10/05/2025 19:22

I am kicking myself for not posting early so I could say top of the morning to you @tiredwitless. 15 hours is a very decent fast.

It has been a lovely day here too and had a lovely walk with dh.

@HarpQuartet I really want to hear your song 🤩 I am fasting now, let’s see if I can skip bf tomorrow.

Clearingaspace · 11/05/2025 08:37

Good morning, well I am rubbish at skipping breakfast so going to break my fast soon but I think it was still helpful to close my window on a Saturday night even if only for 13 hours or so.

We are planning a walk and then I am some gardening/ patio cleaning; this isn’t because I have a beautiful garden - it’s an overgrown mess! Need to get it a bit nicer so we can sit out a bit more.

hope all ok

tiredwitless · 11/05/2025 09:07

Morning all,
@HarpQuartet we need to hear/see the song in praise of bed time, please!!
@Clearingaspace 13 hours not bad at all and good luck with the patio /garden cleaning it’ll be worth it to be able to sit out and enjoy any good weather.

I’m on black coffee this morning as my teenage daughter has told me that soya milk in tea is making my breath smell of soya, and not in a good way.. I love her honesty 😂

I like black coffee but got really bad gastritis at the beginning of my 16:8 fasting so gave it up as it was hurting.. now have an occasional decaf which seems to not affect my stomach.
I’m planning to fast till 12:30 to get to 16 hours. So going for a walk with dog now, then hoovering.. and not sure what after that but have to keep busy! I may do some planning..

HarpQuartet · 11/05/2025 11:20

Think I'm going to do some gardening too. Started week 3 of couch to 5k this morning, made today's dinner then forced myself to do some work to get me through to 11 to break my fast - a free morning makes fasting much harder, I'm just more aware of the eating impulse.

The bedtime song is somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds long, not exactly Wagnerian in scale 😆 The lead singer (me) starts:

Beeeed-time, bestest time of the day.

Then the backing singers - also me - chip in, with a kind of whispery tone, but also gleeful - they are completely on board with the message... So they complete the song thus:

The week!
The month!
The year!

Repeat as desired.

tiredwitless · 11/05/2025 11:42

@HarpQuartet
love the bedtime song, esp the whispery but also gleeful tone of the backing singers😂 I so recognize that vibe!
Totally agree a free morning makes fasting more challenging.. distractions are crucial!

Clearingaspace · 11/05/2025 12:32

@HarpQuartet your song has given me a big grin, love it 😁

@tiredwitless teenage daughters are a bit too honest! Having said that if black coffee is going to make your stomach hurt she might judt have to put up with a slight whiff of soya!

Octopus45 · 11/05/2025 22:28

Hi, can I join please. I started IF last year and lost 12 pounds between June and December. Although I’ve still loosely been doing IF, I’ve been eating too much and have put 4 pounds (maybe more after this weekend) back on. Would like to lose 7 pounds, just need to get the proper focus back that I had last year. Starting weight 9 stone. Goal weight 8st7 (haven’t weighed that for nearly 10 years). For context I’m 50, 5ft4 and small bones so don’t carry any extra weight well. Good luck to every else

Clearingaspace · 11/05/2025 23:32

Welcome @Octopus45

I am on track for 17 hours this evening. I hope everyone has had a great weekend

Mull · 12/05/2025 07:21

Hi all, some great messages over the weekend, this is a very supportive thread. Well done for all the fasting (and song writing!).

My weekend away was lovely. A bit too much food but I didn’t go mad. Didn’t manage my usual 18:6 but that’s to be expected really. I broke my fast early as we were all sat around chatting in the mornings and I had to have tea!

So, this week I want to get back to 18:6 although, annoyingly, got an appointment today right over lunchtime so I’ll have my lunch at about 11.30. Got an interesting day on Weds with a 3am start (DS going on residential), out all day and also got an evening thing so who knows! My aim for Thurs weigh in is to be the same as last week at 14.0 (my aim to see 13 anything will have to wait for next week I think).

Have a good week all 😀

tiredwitless · 12/05/2025 20:52

Evening everyone
I had a good day fasting wise - got to 17 hours ( always aiming for at least 16:8 but when I can manage it squashing the eating window to be a bit smaller).
You’ve reminded me @mull I have a work meal out tomorrow evening so my usual eating window won’t work. So I’ll plan to start my eating window a bit later tomorrow do that I can hopefully still keep it to 8 hours. Hope you can get back on track this week.
Welcome @Octopus45and best of luck with your goal!
Hi @Clearingaspaceyes I’m putting my health first - teenager will just have to put up with it! However having got used to the fasting I’m back drinking the occasional coffee without ill effects thankfully. Just need to not mainline it!

Trying to post daily this week as promised and to help keep on track..
Have a good week all!

HarpQuartet · 12/05/2025 21:14

Hi all, I've caved and broke my fast this evening after only two hours, d'oh! I will either break my fast at 11.30 or 1 tomorrow, depending on how the food noise goes.

And will get up early for next couch to 5k jog-walk. Welcome @Octopus45 do you have a plan for tomorrow?

Clearingaspace · 13/05/2025 08:41

@HarpQuartet hope your c25k and fasting goes well!

@tiredwitless not mainlining coffee is something I need to work on!

@Mull ooh don’t envy the 3 am start! Good luck with your fasts

I did 17 hours but with a milky coffee and also I just ate too much at breakfast, which is annoying!

IDareSay · 13/05/2025 09:05

Planning to check in daily for a while to help me get back on track, reporting on previous day and the plan for today.

Dinner was quite late on Sunday evening but when I broke my fast on Monday it came to about 16 hours, so pretty happy with that.

I had quiche and salad for both meals yesterday as it needed eating up. Fortunately I like quiche! Finished eating by 7pm.

Plan for today is tuna salad or omelette for lunch around noon (need to check egg situation) and chicken and veg for dinner. Really trying to pack in the protein as I know it helps shut down the 'food noise' once I am a few days in.

HarpQuartet · 13/05/2025 09:55

Hi @Clearingaspace @IDareSay and others. Just popping on for a quick whinge as I am hungry and there's nothing to distract me for the next half hour. I'll read my book and see if I can get absorbed in it.

loveyouradvice · 13/05/2025 14:47

Did the book work @HarpQuartet ??

OP posts:
HarpQuartet · 13/05/2025 14:58

I never got to the book, I did some work instead, which was good in that it worked (distracted me and I fasted until 1.15 👍) but bad in that I'm a bit too "all work and no play" and trying to steer my way out of that.

How're you doing, @loveyouradvice ?

loveyouradvice · 13/05/2025 22:22

I know that feeling ... I'm getting better at learning to relax!!

But scottish dancing today was an unexpectedly dangerous activity... I fell and cut open my forehead!! Probably need to go to A&E - my heart sinking at long wait...

OP posts:
tiredwitless · 13/05/2025 23:28

@loveyouradvice. Sorry to hear about your cut forehead! I hope you don’t have to wait too long in A&E and are home again soon 💐

I got to 19 hours fasting today as I moved my eating window to accommodate work meal this evening. So broke my fast at 3 and started again at 9.30pm. All good other than the side of fries with the meal which were very good and will not be mentioned again..

im very keen to try a 24 hour fast at some stage soon. I’ve assumed it would be very difficult but once busy with work I don’t really feel hungry or if I do the feeling goes fairly quickly. I’m just a bit worried about either losing concentration or - even worse - getting cranky and saying something I regret to someone! Neither of those happens with 16:8 or even with going to 19 hours today. So maybe worrying unnecessarily?

Hope everyone is doing ok and finding ways to distract ourselves when needed. Other than work, I find cleaning can be quite good and there is usually plenty of it available to do, here anyway! Also reading Mumsnet or Facebook fasting groups for inspiration..

ok planning for tomorrow, a lot of driving ahead, for a work meeting, so packing for after fast ends - nuts and fruit for the car and some yogurt with added seeds and frozen berries in cool bag for lunch..

Clearingaspace · 13/05/2025 23:55

@loveyouradvice oh no, poor you, I hope yiu are ok?

@tiredwitless 19 hours is brilliant! You are so right, being busy helps massively. Maybe just slowly increase and hopefully you can side step any cranky behaviour!

no fast for me today, but tomorrow I will I think

hope you are ok with exam stress @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans and @ItRainsItPours

HarpQuartet · 14/05/2025 06:55

@tiredwitless that's good planning 🌟

@loveyouradvice really sorry for what I'm sure has been a crappy night 😔 how are you?
