I may have drunk some wine and eaten some chocolate. I will not be taking questions on the matter. It was delicious (on the motto of delay not deny...😂)

Fouramclub · 02/06/2024 07:40

Hi all! After being absent for a couple of months I am ready to get back on it. Work has been busy and uncertain which has meant a lot of stress so I have been eating terribly and not exercising. As a result I've put on 3kg since my last weigh in.

My position at work is now a tad more certain so I have a little less stress but I have just come back from holiday so need to get back into a regular routine!

Starting weight for June - 73.4kg

plan: 12-8pm fast/1500 cals a day.

Hope you are all doing well!

desikated · 02/06/2024 08:16

@ItRainsItPours ah I like this checking in.
For me
SW : somewhere around 71kg
CW: 66.3kg
GW: 63.5kg

Aims for June
Strength training (agh! My nemesis)
Getting a massage (self care)

Hey @Fouramclub welcome back! Glad to hear that work is more settled.
Someone in the last thread said that weight easily gained is weight easily lost - I think that's true so onwards and upwards!

I'm a 1-9pm faster. Although today I'm not fasting as a weekend treat / a tad hungover and I have to take my small person to rugby 🫠

desikated · 03/06/2024 07:44

@Clearingaspace ohh a 24 hour fast. Let us know how it goes. I'm intrigued ....

@Loubelle70 ahh. Well, I think illness I just a cat amongst the weight loss pigeons. As in, it always messes it up. Good luck with the week ahead and hope you're feeling better.

Thank you for tagging me into this thread.

Also, thank you to those of you who replied to me (when I first joined last week) in response to me saying I'm at a healthy weight but struggling to lose 7-10 pounds to get to my 'happy' weight. Sorry I didn't reply last week (it was a busy week!).

It's feeling so frustrating, as I'm quite short, so my daily calories are quite low. I'm currently 8 stone 4. But definitely look and feel better when I am 7-10 pounds less than this!

I've recently started doing Caroline Girvan weights workouts (complete beginner and using very light weights!) and am actually really enjoying it.

Cherryblossom81 · 03/06/2024 08:00

Do any of you have any thoughts on drinking black coffee when fasting? I have always thought this is fine but I read/heard something recently (although I can't remember where!) that said drinking black coffee on an empty stomach is not great and it's better to have it after food/breakfast? I think it was something to do with cortisol and when that is high it can make weight loss hard?

I'm also aware that you can find theories and arguments for anything and everything, so thought I'd ask all of you for real life experiences/thoughts!

ItRainsItPours · 03/06/2024 08:05

I drink lots of black coffee when fasting, along with water. I don’t know about its effect on cortisol but I am losing weight.

LeopardLover82 · 03/06/2024 08:09

Hi 👋🏼 Can I join?

Have been kicking about all the weight loss threads under various weights for about 2 years now. But saw a photo of me from the weekend, and have decided I need to sort myself out. None of my clothes fit. We have a lovely holiday booked for the end of July.

I was very successful with 5:2 about 10 years ago, but a lot has changed since then. I am now in my 40s and currently can’t even walk due to an injury which I’m hoping will improve soon!

Therefore, I thought I’d dial it back. Cut back on food while I’m unable to exercise and then maybe see how it goes?! No idea how much I can lose though 🤷🏻‍♀️

ItRainsItPours · 03/06/2024 11:56

Welcome @LeopardLover82 , if it’s any consolation I think losing weight is 90% diet. I exercise to help but it’s very easy to eat extra because you feel you deserve it afterwards. If 5:2 has worked in the past I’m sure it will again. I do 16:8, managing 20:4 on good days but everyone here does different fasting including some fasts longer than 24 hours.

Bunnie007 · 03/06/2024 16:23

Hello
I’d love to join in
CW 10st 6
GW 8st 12
planning on 16:8 - 5 days a week and daily 1500 calories-(may use exercise calories for some weekend leeway). I’m only 5ft 2 and can really notice the extra weight I’m carrying.
Any hints/tips greatly appreciated : )

Clearingaspace · 03/06/2024 18:56

Welcome @Bunnie007 and @LeopardLover82 and good luck with week 1!

Hello @Cherryblossom81 i have heard that it is good to avoid caffeine within 2 hours of waking as we all naturally have a surge of cortisol in the morning after that it is ok although it’s also good not to drink it too late 😅 I go for decaf with a couple of normal coffees late morning/ early afternoon. I don’t drink black coffee as it makes me feel nauseous so just have it in my window.

@desikated 24 hours is pretty doable as can do it and still combine with 1mad. let’s hope I can build back up by the end of the month as my fasting muscle needs stretching again!

desikated · 03/06/2024 21:41

Hey @Bunnie007 and welcome
That sounds like a great plan. We probably all have tips for the different bits of fasting we find tricky (Im basically alright at fasting during the week and then just totally undisciplined at the weekend so that's my weakness)

I've found though that during fasting periods having something to do really helps so I try to schedule work meetings / busy mornings to keep myself occupied. Also water with lemon in it!

Let us know how you get on....

desikated · 03/06/2024 21:48

Hey @LeopardLover82 and welcome! As @Clearingaspace says it is basically mainly diet so don't worry about not moving (lol).

How much do you want to lose / what's your aim? (As in is there a specific item clothing you'd like to get back into for July?)

Positively I think we've all had good ish experiences of being able to lose weight through fasting although dodging challenges of illness, injury, life disasters, general meh means we've all faced ups and downs - BUT it's part of the journey and not a bad thing inherently.

I'd say what you'll notice fairly quickly is losing some water weight and bloating (maybe you arent bloated at all but that's certainly what I noticed when I started!)

OP posts:
desikated · 03/06/2024 21:53

@Cherryblossom81 that's interesting. I drink three black coffees when I fast - I had to forsake milk for the fasting and I don't think I have the willpower to lose caffeine as well 😬😭 can you send a link to what you found? Totally know what you mean though about finding stuff to support whatever you're looking for ...!

OP posts:
Cherryblossom81 · 04/06/2024 07:21

I can't find where I originally read it (I'm not even sure how I stumbled across it!). I have just found this, info.bioticsresearch.com/researchforum/study-shows-drinking-coffee-before-breakfast-raises-blood-sugar?hs_amp=true
but it seems it's when also linked to bad sleep.

I don't think I'm going to worry about it. I generally have only 1 (occasionally 2) black coffees when fasting anyway! I drink loads of water and have a tea with milk in my eating window. I'm just looking for any tiny tweaks I can make to lose these few pounds, which is why I thought I'd ask if any of you had thoughts on this. But, I'm off to make my coffee now...!

Skykidsspy · 04/06/2024 11:52

Hi, can I please join? I started 16:8 yesterday and think this might help my willpower.

CW - 13st 10
TW - 11st

I wfh and can do quite a lot of damage in the morning with pastry breakfasts, crisps and choccy elevenses etc plus evening snacks so this could work for me 🤞

im going to start with no food before lunch and then eating actual lunch, not just junk food!

Eastie77Returns · 04/06/2024 14:14

Hi all, I’d also like to join:) I’ve been lurking on various Fasting threads for a while now and has a question for anyone who goes to the gym/exercises whilst fasting.

So, context is I started 16:8 last June after being advised by my GP that my BMI put me squarely in the overweight category. I was 75 kilos and I’m 169cm.

I lost 5 kilos in the space of 2-3 months but then lost discipline and stopped Fasting regularly. I reached a plateau at 70 kilos and basically didn’t loose another pound for the remainder of the year. In January I joined the gym and have been going 3-4 times a week and now weigh 65 kilos but again seem to have hit a wall as I’ve been this weight this March so I’ve restarting 16:8

My question is around the benefits and drawbacks of exercising whilst Fasting and anyone’s personal experience of this? I’ve been told conflicting things at the gym. A personal trainer there told me I should not train on an empty stomach under any circumstances and he has seen clients faint when doing this. The instructor of my favourite class does IF every day, runs all her classes whilst fasting and told me it’s all psychological - there is no issue whatsoever with fasting and exercising. Her class is high intensity and I so remember feeling light headed when I did it once on an empty stomach. My class is first thing in the morning and I break my fast at 11.30am.

ItRainsItPours · 04/06/2024 15:01

Welcome to all newcomers. I personally prefer to exercise on an empty stomach. That said I am not doing HIT, I am walking, doing gardening and the odd yoga or Pilates session. When I end up doing a long walk after lunch I feel lethargic and weighed down. This is despite leaving at least 2 hours after eating. Perhaps in part because only having 2 meals a day means each is a decent size. I would advise seeing what works for you, as you say the advice is conflicting.
