Oof, I'm having an "eat everything" day so am posting here to say I am now fasting until at least midday tomorrow to get back on track.

ItRainsItPours · 04/06/2024 20:21

@HarpQuartet go and brush your teeth so you won’t want to eat again 🤣

HarpQuartet · 04/06/2024 20:34

Omg that's exactly what I should do! Thank you, going right now!

HarpQuartet · 04/06/2024 20:39

Huh! That's not an Elvis "huh", it's the sound I'm making as I "huh" my minty fresh breath at you.

ItRainsItPours · 04/06/2024 20:48

Bleurg keep it to yourself 🤣

Hi @Skykidsspy and welcome! Working from home and keeping away from snacks is hard but the benefits of fasting are good and I found it surprising how much I have enjoyed being less over full!

@Eastie77Returns hello!!! You've done excellent weight loss work - well done.
Re exercise, I do high intensity (running and hill running) exercise. I nearly always do this exercise while fasting eg running around 8-9am for up to 45-60 mins and not eating til 1pm.

I make sure i stay really hydrated and when I'm around / on my period it's not do able as I have endo and anaemia so not ideal! But I think as @ItRainsItPours says - have a try and see what works for you..
I know @Saraswati does running too with fasting so they might have some wisdom!

Saraswati · 04/06/2024 21:41

I run whilst fasting too. During the week I run 3 times usually, up at 5.30/6 quick black coffee then do a 5k or an interval run. I'll then get the kids to school and then start work and break my fast around 11ish. On a sat or sun I do a longer run so I don't fast and eat 2 hours beforehand, usually toast and peanut butter and a banana.

I have some zero calorie electrolyte tablets to put in water and I sometimes drink these when I'm due on my period as I can feel a bit light headed after exercise and they help. I'm not sure if black coffee is bad but I like it! I only have 1 though, 2 makes me feel a bit jittery so I'll have decaf if I want more. You just have to experiment a bit and see what works for your body I think (also menstrual cycle dependant too!)

Skykidsspy · 05/06/2024 10:28

So far, so good!! I’ve had a really shocking run at not sticking to diets so hoping that this is achievable. Day 3 today 😊

SW 13, 10
CW 13, 8
TW 11st ish

Well done @Skykidsspy great start

just broken my fast at 22 hours - couldn’t hang on the extra 2!

ItRainsItPours · 05/06/2024 13:53

I’m accidentally fasting past my usual 2pm today as I got caught up shopping. It’s great how you don’t notice hunger when busy. Well done @Skykidsspy , the first week is the hardest.

Bunnie007 · 05/06/2024 17:19

Realy impressed by these long fasts people can do. I only managed fourteen and a half yesterday (my stomach was really rumbling and I was going into a yoga class 🙈)

Today was easy though and I managed to do 18 hours without it being a problem. I think 11-7pm eating is maybe a good time frame for me.
Found it easy to stay within my calories to as less time to eat them 😂

Thanks for the welcome:) Really impressed and inspired by the progress made by others on this thread.

I experimented this morning and did a 6.15am high intensity class (mix of Cardio, Combat and Strength) without breaking my fast. I struggled for the first few mins but in the end I felt fine, no light headed/dizzy sensations, so worked out ok.

I’m on day 3 and don’t feel hungry at all in the morning although I do find myself clock watching in the hour leading up to breaking my fast. Hoping I can do 4-5 days of IF this week. Period next week and I don’t think it will be feasible for me to exercise on an empty stomach then.

It’s been a loooong day at work. Currently waiting to eat a salad I’ve ordered and fast 7pm - 11am

ItRainsItPours · 05/06/2024 18:46

I know some people fast differently on weekends or time of the month but I find the diet easier to stick to if I stay consistent. Say I have breakfast one day then the next I am hungry all morning. Not to say I don’t vary from the path if unwell or for high days and holidays. It’s just I know I will then have a couple of hard days remounting the fasting wagon.

desikated · 06/06/2024 08:54

Wel done @Eastie77Returns - it's kind of amazing how the body adapts to new challenges. I have been so used to being basically full / over full that feeling not full or even hungry has been quite revelatory!

I agree with @ItRainsItPours about consistency. I think the reason weekends are a bonfire for me is that I drink wine / eat chocolate on Friday eve so wake up Saturday starving and then eat breakfast and then this makes me hungrier due to sugar spikes etc. anyway. At the moment getting to Friday eve with toddler alive and the house still standing means I feel like I deserve some tasty treats.

I'm having an experiment this week and weighing myself every morning. Mainly to capture the daily changes which are water weight / bloating etc - mainly to reassure myself that bum scale readings can be glossed over ;) .

Anyway, currently recorded my lowest ever weight this morning - 64.4kg (GW is 63kg) but I'm not going to officially record that as I suspect on actual check in day I'll have bumped back into 66 somewhere.

Progress not perfection and good luck to everyone on Thursday. Today is my day with my toddler and it is hard work not eating and snacking around her. On my third black coffee already 🫠

Can I join in please?! looking to lose 2 stone before I go to New York the first week of sept.

I started a week ago:
SW: 17st 9.4lbs
CW: 17st 5.6lbs -3.8lbs
TW: 16st 12.6lbs (end of June)

Currently fast anywhere between 18-22 hours a day starting at 8pm ish. Sometimes earlier.

ItRainsItPours · 06/06/2024 11:01

I just read an article that said 85% of brits start their dietnow for their summer holidays! So welcome again to all the newbies.

Hi @NewYorkNewYork24 that's fab progress for the first week. How are you feeling?

OP posts:
NewYorkNewYork24 · 06/06/2024 20:38

Feeling pretty good, because I’m counting calories too, I don’t feel like binge eating, feeling more in control. I don’t have cravings anymore.

Did a 22 hours fast today from 7:30pm last night to 5:30pm today. Ate 1,300 calories and started my fast again at 7pm. I actually feel a little sick, don’t know if I’ve eaten a bit too much too quick, previous days I’ve had a little snack before my main meal, kind of gets my body ready for the food. Might just be because I’m tired.

ItRainsItPours · 06/06/2024 20:42

@NewYorkNewYork24 I stopped doing such long fasts because I found eating all my calories in one go made me uncomfortable. The other thing it did was cause explosive diarrhoea, which was presumably because such a big meal, after such a long fast, was a shock to the system.

HarpQuartet · 07/06/2024 06:40

Morning all, and a warm welcome to those who've recently joined us.

Fridays are traditionally our check-in day, though of course anyone is welcome to post anything any time.

I choose to post my weight on a Friday, but if that doesn't suit you, perhaps you will have another type of progress report.

Starting weight for June: 77.6kg
Today: 76.6kg
Goal for end of July: 76kg

I'm up and down a lot, mood wise and weight wise, aiming for more consistency and less sugar.

desikated · 07/06/2024 06:58

Wow well done @HarpQuartet ! That's a fabulous start to June.

I know what you mean about the up and down. But the general trajectory is down and that's the thing 👏👏👏

How's the less sugar going?

OP posts:
HarpQuartet · 07/06/2024 07:05

@desikated thanks for the encouragement ☺️ and low sugar is hit and miss, I really need to post my intentions here: today is a low sugar day. I'm not confident yet about the weekend as my mood is so unpredictable and I need to avoid hitting that "poor me, I can't have what I want" child response.

How about you? Heading towards Friday eve with everyone still in one piece and the house still standing, I hope.

Are you cutting out natural sugars like fruit?

It's such a tricky thing because sugar is in so many things and of course IS VERY NICE.

Yes in one piece, just. Yesterday was 🤪🫠 my toddler is going through the why / what you doing / no . The temptation just to eat sugar and crap carbs to have a rush to get through it is intense! But we're here. Quiet work day today. Being on some 8pm wine pls
