good luck with your reboot week @Fouramclub

similar story for me today, I am not going to beat myself up too much that I was slightly too relaxed at the weekend and just concentrate on hopefully being lower on Friday than the previous friday 🤞

I too am weirdly upset about mm. I think it’s the feeling he has gone before his time? On a selfish level - his books seemed to build on knowledge in a really accessible way and I am sad we won’t all get that anymore. Rip mm.

ItRainsItPours · 10/06/2024 12:28

MM was the ideal mix of serious scientist with tv personality, so he was able to spread his research far and wide. I certainly credit his approach with how much weight I have been able to lose. I hope there are people he worked with who can continue it.

TooEarlyForBreakfastInJune · 10/06/2024 18:23

Last year I lost two stone. This year I didn’t stick to the intermittent fasting, and regained eighteen pounds. I’m still ten pounds down from my heaviest, but really feeling the burden of the extra weight.

I didn’t eat after 7.pm yesterday, and felt much better this morning, and clearer mentally. I opened my window just after 10am. Drank lots of tea instead of buying syrupy coffee. There’s one slice of bread left, then it’s on to the ryvitas.

I spent time in my garden. Lovely in direct sun, chilly in the shade, enjoyed the exercise.

Just finishing off my tea, then kitchen closed for me.

HarpQuartet · 10/06/2024 19:28

@TooEarlyForBreakfastInJune that sounds like a good day.

As others have said, I first heard about fasting through MM, I've got books by him, listen to him on R4 and have felt upset to hear of his death. It must be completely awful for his family. I hope they're seeing how well-liked and respected he was.

ItRainsItPours · 10/06/2024 08:11

See my post above about weight gained quickly @Loubelle70. Also being ill always gets in the way of weight loss but in a few days you will hopefully feel better and get back on wagon.

Thankyou 😁 xxxx

Bunnie007 · 10/06/2024 21:08

Back to fasting today after a fun (and fairly indulgent) weekend. I found it relatively easy to get to 16 hours today so definitely think my body is getting used to it

desikated · 11/06/2024 06:42

Very sad re MM. and such a shock -as you say @Clearingaspace definitely before his time which makes it very sad.

@Fouramclub @Loubelle70 if it helps I've been experimenting with weighing myself everyday. Huge fluctuations!!! But to put on a lb of weight you would have neede to consume 3500 extra calories which is a huge amount so it's much more likely it's water weight from illness / additional 'patty' food. So, don't beat yourself up - one step at a time.

Loubelle70 · 11/06/2024 07:50

@desikated thankyou ... Im back on it this week to OMAD, so we will see .. definitely didn't eat enough to put weight on for sure, im a bugger with salt so you know 🤣😉.
Im also at age (peri) where weight is a grrr to move.

ItRainsItPours · 11/06/2024 09:23

I think fasting does help with the perimenopause difficult to shift weight. The hard part is staying consistent over the longer term. I think it’s the type of diet you need to adopt as a new lifestyle rather than a quick fix to lose the weight.

desikated · 11/06/2024 19:00

I have no idea what patty food is referred to in my previous post 🫠🤪 maybe party?!

Anyway I record basically. Kg gain and then loss over the span of 4 days (went up after weekend of more eating, very quickly back down after a couple of days fasting)

OP posts:
HarpQuartet · 11/06/2024 19:55

I recognise this "gain it fast, lose it fast" thing too.

And I came on to report some exciting midweek news: I was looking over my old posts, and the first weight I recorded on Mumsnet was 85.9kg on 27 June 2023.

Well today I weighed in at 75.9kg! So assuming I can maintain that for a couple of weeks, that'll be 10kg over a year.

Slow weight loss for the win!

ItRainsItPours · 11/06/2024 20:33

Well done @HarpQuartet onwards and downwards 😀

TooEarlyForBreakfastInJune · 12/06/2024 19:38

@HarpQuartet Well done on your steady weight loss 😀

I've only just realised that this is my fourth day of nothing except a cup of tea after seven o'clock. I'm much more alert in the mornings, but I'm struggling to delay breakfast past nine. That's still a gap of fourteen hours, so I'm not going to make myself feel like a failure for it.

Anothe nice spell in the garden for my exercise - half an hour up a ladder trying to tame a tree and let some dappled sun through rather than total shade.

HarpQuartet · 12/06/2024 19:49

And a win for your garden too

ItRainsItPours · 12/06/2024 19:54

@TooEarlyForBreakfastInJune a tip to eating a bit later is to drink a pint of water when hungry.

Eastie77Returns · 13/06/2024 11:00

I’m confused after weighing myself on a new set of bathroom (electric) scales this morning.

I’ve been using an analogue scale which shows my weight at 65 kilos. When I step on the electric scale I weigh 70 kilos (rechecked the analogue and it still shows 65 kilos). I then changed the metric to pounds on the electric one and it showed 146 pounds which is roughly 66 kilos🤷🏽‍♀️

So 3 different weights across the 2 sets of scales. I’m on my way to the gym now and will try try the scales there😭

ItRainsItPours · 13/06/2024 12:21

I think we just have to stick to weighing at the same time of day wearing the same clothes (or in my case stark naked) on the same scales. It’s the loss that matters. It’s also useful to record measurements with a tape measure as my weight loss has, at times stalled when I have actually lost inches.

NewYorkNewYork24 · 13/06/2024 15:32

I did so well over the weekend, did a 3.5 mile walk on a fast, then Monday came round, was pretty hungry early on and all I could think of was food, so did an 18 hour fast. Since Tuesday I’ve eaten everything in sight! Out for a Chinese tonight then reset tomorrow!

I felt so good fasting and now I feel crappy again. Not too mention putting 2lb on in 3 days, but easy on way lost as they say!

desikated · 13/06/2024 20:58

Ahh that's frustrating @Eastie77Returns I think @ItRainsItPours is right though. Same scales, same time every day for consistency. Also I find the floor that I weigh on makes a difference 🤷🏼‍♀️

Don't worry @NewYorkNewYork24 !! Each day as it comes and genuinely an it of a fluctuating up now, will probably be quickly lost.

SW 1st January 17 stone 5
CW 14th June 14 stone 13
TW 1st July 14 stone 13

I have reached my goal for the month and we are not even half way through! It makes up for last month where I never reached it though. I also think it is down to stress making me feel nauseous when I eat. It’s not something I’ve experienced before but makes me understand my skinny friend who says this all the time.
Anyone else weighing in today?

HarpQuartet · 14/06/2024 06:59

Goal for July: 76kg
Today: 75.8kg

That's very nice to hear, @ItRainsItPours , nice to reach your goal EXCEPT not liking the stress/nausea aspect. Apologies if you said before (I forget things) but what is the stress e.g. exams, illness, work?

Like you, I've reached my July goal halfway through June, very happy with that.

My "nice thing for myself" plan was to book a sound bath, and that's now booked for 03 July.

Exercise-wise I'm being consistent with Couch to 5k and pilates or stretching. This weekend I'll throw in one of the Hasfit 15 minute strength training for beginners videos.

Happy Friday everyone, looking forward to reading your news.

desikated · 14/06/2024 07:31

Wel done @HarpQuartet that's FAB and you're doing excellent work on the exercise and sound bathing! Three cheers!

@ItRainsItPours yes that IS good re weight loss but not nice to hear that eating is making you feel sick and anxiety is an issue :( I'm sorry. Is it a particularly difficult time at the moment? Bodies are funny things and if we're in fight flight mode than our stomachs will just not want to process food (hence the nauseau)

OP posts:
desikated · 14/06/2024 07:37

And for me:
SW -71/72
CW- 63.5
GW-63

I'm pleased! Most of a kilo down from last week, and half a kilo left til goal weight. Altho goal weighty May shift downwards if I can.

I think a huge game changer for me has been stopping taking iburprofen and also a stomach liner thing I was taking. Without TMI this seems to have helped my digestion and bloating no end. More pain to contend with, but then the bloating was painful so...

From weighing every day I can see that I have a peak upwards over the weekend (of like 1-2 kilos) but then it drops off when I start fasting again. Next week period tho so who bloody (literally) knows....

OP posts:
ItRainsItPours · 14/06/2024 07:38

Well done @HarpQuartet, a nice steady loss.
My stress is a combination of health issues and family drama. I got Covid a few weeks ago and was very nauseous with that. I seem to now be susceptible to it. That combined with grief and a family member behaving badly means it’s been a difficult month.
Onwards and upwards though, things seem calmer now and I felt much better yesterday. I would normally eat more when stressed but I know people who eat less and struggle to keep up a healthy weight when life is hard. It’s made me understand that better for sure.

HarpQuartet · 14/06/2024 10:04

@ItRainsItPours I remember your bereavement now ❤️ what a lot you've had to deal with xx
