Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

I totally get what you’re saying @IdLikeToBeAFraser. The window is what is stopping me from eating the unnecessary stuff that I would do otherwise. DH is semi doing it with me also. He struggles with the after dinner time where he’s still hungry after our meal and wants something else. Usually he would have an ice cream and perhaps a little bit of chocolate. Now he is having a piece of fruit instead, which is far better. Last night he had some fruit and I made a comment that I wished I’d had some after dinner too. He told me to go get some but i explained to him it was outside of my window now. He was of the opinion that it wouldn’t make any difference. Maybe it wouldn’t have (we’re talking around 15 mins) but it is the window that is helping me cut out the calories so it’s the one thing I’m standing firm on.

I have also come to the realisation that it’s okay to sit with your hunger and that just because you feel hungry it doesn’t automatically mean that you have to eat something. This is totally the opposite of the mindset we have to have for DD, who has a diagnosis of Anorexia, whereby she must listen and honour her hunger cues. I have to be very careful doing this around her as she would be extremely triggered if she realised I was fasting. Luckily she is a late riser so isn’t aware if I’ve eaten breakfast or not and wouldn’t notice that I’m not eating after a certain time. Plus she’s off to uni in 2 weeks so it will all be moot.

Hi all . Had a lovely lunch / afternoon graze with my sister in the garden in the sun( while we can) and am not feeling at all hungry so will see how I go this evening. Certainly won’t be eating a meal.

OwlsDance · 30/08/2024 22:37

As predicted, wfh has been somewhat challenging! Still had nice long fasts, but was eating everything in sight once I've opened my eating window. Managed to reign it in in the last couple of days, although I'm still snacking a lot after lunch and then not being hungry for dinner. Weight bobbing around in mid 71s.

greengreyblue · 31/08/2024 10:55

Ok so did OMAD yesterday but lunch was kind of spread out as we kept nibbling. Feel ok and planning on fasting until 6 tonight.🤞🏻

greengreyblue · 31/08/2024 14:36

Getting hungry….made green tea.

choc27 · 31/08/2024 16:54

Was out with friends last night, drank quite a lot til after midnight and a hangover means I need to eat very regularly so no fasting for me today. Hopefully won't cause too much damage.

greengreyblue · 31/08/2024 19:37

Have only had poppadoms and Prosecco so far! Pray for me!!

goingdownfighting · 31/08/2024 19:58

So I have made it back from a week in my hometown. Fasted today but ate what I wanted but made it to my class this morning.

Will step on the scales and face the music tomorrow morning 😱

Lol, good luck!

I was hungrier than usual today, but managed to hold out until lunch. Then closed my window after just 4.5hrs... never done that before, we shall see how I feel tomorrow!

Octopus45 · 01/09/2024 08:21

Sounds as if everyone is doing well. I'm still sticking to my eating window but fluctuating in weight a bit, probably cause I've been out for a couple of meals and not drunk enough water. Over the past week, my lowest weight has been 8st12.5, but today I was 9st0.25.Cannot believe it is September. Wondering if its going to get a lot harder in Autumn.

Olika · 01/09/2024 08:32

My biggest challenge currently is that I go to the gym 3 mornings a week so I need to start my fasting by 3pm. It's a bit early in the afternoon so then I end up having something in the evening which ruins it.

greengreyblue · 01/09/2024 09:11

@Olika do you mean that you need to eat before the gym? There’s lots of research and anecdotal evidence that fasting can enhance the worlout but I guess it depends what you do at the gym.
@Octopus45 interesting that you’re fluctuating too.
So I broke my fast with Prosecco which is so not good. I had planned to have a bit of bread before we went out but it ended up that we had to leave we earlier and my hair took orecedence rightly or wrongly. Weirdly I felt fine considering I was drinking on a completely empty stomach after 24hrs!
Had a lovely Indian meal followed by birthday cake when I got home at midnight. Feel ok this morning so think I’ll get to lunchtime at least and I may have a Sunday afternoon meal as OMAD -though not quite ready for a roast even though it is September.

Olika · 01/09/2024 09:34

@greengreyblue yeah I need to eat as I am strength training with as heavy as I can just lift. So usually I need to have breakfast and protein, exercise, have protein and a snack, then late lunch/early dinner with protein and start fasting 3pm/4pm. I was able to do this just fine until recently when I started snacking in the evening though I wasn't even hungry. I have a young toddler so she eats dinner late afternoon and evening snack before bed so that's when I snacked with her.

goingdownfighting · 01/09/2024 10:09

Well done everyone

Ok so +4lb.

I'm straight back on it since yesterday but I'm dreading the initial hunger. Will try and keep busy.

Hopefully getting back into some kind of routine will help.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 01/09/2024 11:52

Well I am extremely happy today. Down 0.8kg since Wednesday and am now officially at least 0.5kg lower than at any point over the past 5+ years!!

Someone ipthread said she is learning to "sit with" her hunger and I think that's such an accurate way of thinking of it. I'm not starving. I will be eating at a set time ans actually, chances are I don't need the calories. What's also interesting is that I definitely struggled with sugar highs and lows (the pcos I guess) and that's just not happening anymore. I can feel a bit hungry during my fast but t's not making me irritable or stressed.

The more I do this, even when I am not actually losing a lot (like the last 2 weeks before thus sudden drop), the more I feel like the literature that says this is how to eat if you are insulin resistant is really true. Interestingly, the only other time I have lost weight over last 10 years was by limiting carbs, particularly at night. It does seem to prove that a diet dor your specific metabolism is the way forward (dh lost 20kg on slimming world earing insane amounts of pasta!!!)

greengreyblue · 01/09/2024 13:06

Oh well done @IdLikeToBeAFraser ! Great to see a whoosh after a plateau. Hope I follow in your footsteps. I’m still on the green tea. Getting some food ready for bbq this afternoon. Will be marinated chicken thighs, pork skewers and lots of salads , hummus , olives etc and NO booze after last night.

greengreyblue · 02/09/2024 08:22

Despite two OMADs in a row I am up another 4lbs! Either my scales have totally gone haywire or I’m pregnant (I’m 53 and post meno) but either way I am not happy!
Yesterday I broke my fast at 4pm and had bbq chicken thighs( skin removed) with salad , some air fried potatoes and olives etc. Had a nectarine and an apple. Water and green tea all day.
Maybe I need a laxative…. I know eating less can slow down the digestive system. Soz, grim morning convo.😂

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 02/09/2024 08:27

@greengreyblue I'm sorry you're strugglng. I've seen a lot of bits and pieces that eating too little can prevent or limit weight loss. YOu haven't had a lot of calories at all - perhaps you need, ironically, to up them slightly?

greengreyblue · 02/09/2024 09:02

Yeah I get that but I was trying to balance out the birthday drinks and Indian meal.I wasn't expecting to lose just not gain! Just annoyed cos I’m back to work tomorrow and I’m basically back where I was when the summer hols started. But clothes fit differently and I can see the loss. Just bloated so it’s probably a slow moving situation. Hope so anyway! Will go back to 18:6 today. Thanks for support though.

ComealongMartha · 02/09/2024 10:01

I fell off the wagon due to covid (annoyingly it gave me a real appetite especially for junk). I have had a week of eating healthy and getting back to normal.

Back on it today starting with either OMAD or seeing if I can hold off for a 36 hour fast to reset.

The scale was very upsetting this morning but confirmed what I knew.

GameOfJones · 02/09/2024 15:59

I'm also ending the school holidays a few lbs up from where I started them. I'm looking forward to autumn in a way as I can get back into my routine of porridge or soup for lunch which always seems to set me right for the afternoon.

Very similar story for me. Had drinks and a Chinese meal and have gone back to practically where I started. Really gutted.

greengreyblue · 02/09/2024 22:45

So disheartening.

greengreyblue · 03/09/2024 16:56

Back to work. 18 hr fast.
lunch: salad leaves, olives , celery and peppers with a hummus dressing, an apple

dinner: turkey steak with bulgur wheat , roasted veg nectarine.
Kitchen will be closed by 6.

choc27 · 03/09/2024 20:55

Well done @ggreengreyblue .
I was back to work today and kept to fasting window, salad for lunch and sausage and mash for dinner but had a slice of cake and a glass of wine. Why did I do that?
Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow. None of my work clothes fit properly which was quite upsetting so hopefully that's the kick up the bum I need.
