Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

Oh I know what you mean. I have caught myself putting food in my mouth a few times. I have actually spat it out which is unlike me as I hate waste . It’s so ingrained to finish stuff off!!!
Just home from London. Window was 2-6.30 but had steak, sides( veggie ) and wine and beer. Plus you get a free mini ice cream cone after paying so I couldn’t say no could I????
Anyway, have done. 16000 steps and had a lovely day!
Only had that one meal so I’m going g to have some toast as I need it after the drinks .

greengreyblue · 24/08/2024 08:20

Had a small piece of sourdough toast with a little cheese around 9pm last night. Weight unchanged this morning. Will fast until at least 3pm today.

OwlsDance · 24/08/2024 08:56

We were travelling, so my eating window ended up being 9.5 hrs. Which I'm OK with, I'm easing myself in with 14:10, and anything over that is a bonus. Currently drinking black tea, haven't made it very strong so hopefully it won't make me nauseous!

Queencam · 24/08/2024 13:38

@greengreyblue sounds like a fun day and a LOT of steps. Think carbs are just vital you’ve been drinking aren’t they. My hangover yesterday was absolutely awful - and I’d had that Thai curry and rice with all the wine. Still felt terrible!

Have just finished 17 hours fast and had beans on toast with two fried eggs.

OwlsDance · 24/08/2024 14:06

@greengreyblue sounds like you had a lovely day!

@Queencam ugh, hangovers are the worst! DH and I have cut down massively on alcohol this year, I quite enjoy bot drinking.

Looks like we're fasting buddies today - I too just broke my fast with overnight oats after a 17hr fast.

Hangovers are farer and fewer between but every now and then I still get carried away having too much fun in the pub. Worth it… just 😂😂

I have failed fasting this week again. But I feel like all hanging fat at my lower stomach (from pregnancy and being obese) is thinner and I must have lost fat by exercising and fasting here and there. 🤞🏼

greengreyblue · 24/08/2024 15:57

Thanks it was a great day and didn’t feel like that many steps but lots of walking over and by the Thanes. Managed to get to 1.30pm today so 16.5 hr fast. But already done 10, 000 steps on a big dog walk.
Yesterday I broke my fast with a bottle of Peroni…. It’s not big and it’s not clever but it was great.😂 Today I broke it with a Spanish omelette and a green tea . Sensible head back on.

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 12:26

Hi All. In light of @Olika ’s comment about feeling areas of her body had changed, I’m here to celebrate a non scale victory ( NSV). Bought some high waisted jeans and realised I can tuck tops in now and look ok. Have been wearing longer/ oversized tops for a while but now stomach area is so much flatter.
Also photos taken recently show no double chin that had crept on before starting IF. What are your NSVs?

onwardandupwards · 25/08/2024 14:07

Please may I join this thread? I'm starting today on 16:8 after trying every diet out there for the last 20 years! I need a healthy way of eating for life and have 6 stone to lose. X

choc27 · 25/08/2024 15:21

Can I also join? I've been following along for around 2 weeks and doing 16:8 but lost absolutely nothing. Fell off the wagon during a weekend away. Now back on it and lost 1lb!

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 15:33

Yes all welcome. This is such a flexible way of eating not just for loss but for life. Enabling you to balance out celebratory days and holidays by using various fasting methods- 16:8, 18:5 : 20: 4, OMAD, ADF. Pick n mix!

choc27 · 25/08/2024 16:18

I think I need an element of calorie counting too, which is a shame, but losing nothing for the first 2 weeks didn't fill me with hope. I have some social events coming up and that worries me!

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 17:23

I try to eat healthily and don’t count t calories but so long as I stick to 2 meals that are decent and not excessive it seems ok. Roughly losing 1lb a week and I’m not overweight but I am post menopause. So I’m guessing g if I was, it might come off quicker. Today I ate lunch at 1pm of some Spanish style grains(1/3 of a pouch from Aldi), half a small avocado, a TBSP of homemade hummus, salad, apple.
dinner is homemade spinach and ricotta canneloni with tomato sauce with a green salad. There will be 2 glasses of wine as it’s the weekend. I will also have done 10,000 steps today. Seems to be working . Would be quicker if I didn’t drink at weekends but I enjoy those few drinks.

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 17:25

Balance your social events. Now I’m used to fasting, if I have a social meal in the evening I will do OMAD or close to it and just enjoy the meal.

choc27 · 25/08/2024 17:41

It's the drinking alcohol all evening that messes up my fast on social occasions. I will try omad though as that means I can open my window much later.
I am wondering if my progress being so slow is due to me not being overweight. Also I never snacked before IF and ate 3 ok meals a day already. Years of calorie counting ingrained in me! So really the only change is missing breakfast.

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 17:56

I understand that. But bear in mind that an extra 300 cals a day ( easily done) is over 2k cals a week. If an extra 3,500 cals is a lb then you can easily creep up. I rarely snacked either but love home cooking and would often go back for more…🙄That plus breakfast is enough to add 10lb to a stone over a year.

choc27 · 25/08/2024 18:14

Very true! I am determined to eat sensible portions (no seconds!) and keep on track. I have been having black tea in the morning and 1.5 / 2 litres of water a day.

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 18:41

Good habits.👍🏻

Jennifer17 · 26/08/2024 13:25

Can I join ye ladies? Going to give IF another shot. Only have about 9 pounds to lose, will combine it with low carb also. Fingers crossed for everyone 😁

wholenutcadburys · 26/08/2024 13:31

Hope you don't mind me jumping on the post to ask, I've been thinking of IF for a while but occasionally couldn't do some days due to work, university commitments etc.
do you all count calories whilst IF or just eat normally?

greengreyblue · 26/08/2024 14:21

Hi there both . The idea is not to count calories but inadvertently you are eating fewer meals if you skip breakfast and don’t snack. . I do 18:6 most days so only have two meals a day. If you do 16:8 and eat three meals, you may need to be more mindful of calories if your goal is weight loss. My understanding. Is that there are still health benefits to elongating your fast after last meal of the day into late morning.
Because I’m interested in health. I eat mainly healthily with a dash of alcohol at weekends. I would choose healthy foods anyway but was just indulging too much.
Juyst broke my fast at 2pm so was 19hr fast.
lunch: smoked salmon on toasted sourfough(1 slice) with low fat soft cheese and a poached egg. Apple.

OwlsDance · 26/08/2024 14:51

I hate counting calories, so I don't do it. I have done IF before, but didn't do a clean fast, and I found it much harder - it was easy when I was at work, but not at home surrounded by food.

This time I'm doing clean fasts, and I've found it incredibly easy - we went away for a weekend, and it was very easy to fit fasting around it. I've lost 0.2kg over the weekend, when usually I would have gained. All my food cravings seem to have disappeared as well.

The true test will be later this week though, when I'll be wfh, as that's when I go into the kitchen as a procrastination tactic, and start hunting for snacks... so we shall see!

Olika · 26/08/2024 17:24

@wholenutcadburys I am just mindful what I eat during the eating window so basic everyday food. I am training at the gym 3-4 mornings and attend some evening groups exercises so I have breakfast before gym, after I get home a snack/lunch and just before fasting dinner/snack (either lunch and snack or snack and dinner depending on if it's my evening exercise day).

Queencam · 26/08/2024 19:29

Welcome aboard all new joiners.
