Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

@feliznavidad2 we had a minty lamb stew last night which was good, very wintery! I like the curries, we are having chicken, date and tamarind this weekend (with bought ingredients) and the black pepper Dahl is lovely (without the naan for a calorie saving). Also had an amazing Brazilian pork belly with black bean stew and roasted red pepper orzo with goats cheese.

Very hungry today so had a full Covent Garden chicken soup and a hunk of bread. So stir fry tonight and no snacks!!

swishswooshswash · 15/01/2021 13:05

Fingers crossed for that 11st @Whoateallthechocolate ! I'm hoping to see that this year too, it's been a while!!

feliznavidad2 · 16/01/2021 08:39

Weekends are definitely harder, drinking cafetière black coffee in an attempt to make it seem more exciting...

Roll on breaking fast. Technically it should be 11.20am as that'll be 16 hours but I'd be happy to make it to 11.

Hope you all have good days.

I think would be easier if food wasn't so wrapped up in emotions & memories.
A smattering of snow here so took the children out sledging at 8am as I knew it wouldn't last (and it hasn't) and then home for bacon sandwiches and hot chocolate. I actually had grilled bacon with mushrooms, tomato & an egg rather than a sandwich and skipped the hot chocolate for a (white) coffee but it meant my fast was shorter than it should have been by a few hours and I'll go over calories today.
Last night, I had a gin which inevitably led to crisps and then a couple of chocolates. If I hadn't had the gin, I probably could have avoided the crisps and chocolate. But that gin was so good and needed!

Hey all, sounds like I'm not the only one who finds weekends more challenging! At the moment it's a little easier as no socialising, which usually involves food/drink/both. We had lasagne and salad last night, and got Thai red curry tonight. I've been quite careful today to allow for some wine and a few spicy crackers etc with the curry. I've been for a run today too. Hope you're all having some well deserved downtime.

My breakfast day 1 of 16/8.Shake , Cereal and toast

I think at the weekends it's best to start and end your fast earlier in the day if you can, and have a shorter eating window. I tend to end my fast around 10-11am and begin my fast again between 1pm -4pm (it varies), and have a good meal beforehand. And then mentally I think 'that's it, I'm not eating until tomorrow'.

I lose more weight this way, as I don't snack and it means I have a small breakfast and a good lunch. My fasts in the weekend tend to be around 20 hours or more. By the time I wake up, I've already fasted 16+ hours.

feliznavidad2 · 17/01/2021 12:11

How's everyone doing today? We (including 4yo had a bit of a lie in today) and it definitely helps when there isn't hours to go until food.

Chicken arrabbiata stew with parmesan dumplings was delish, we had it with cavolo nero and some leftover carrot and red cabbage slaw on the side. Would have it again. Let me know if anyone wants the recipe.

How many calories do you eat on this plan? I'm going for 1200 but not sure if that's the norm

LivingInAPrettyWorld · 17/01/2021 22:00

@namechangefail2020 most people don't see 16:8 as a plan, it is more of a lifestyle choice. While most people adopt it in order to lose weight, there are also health benefits to fasting, so the amount of calories you consume is up to you, there is no 'rule'. Eating 1200 calories will help you lose weight quickly, but it may not be sustainable in the long term. I probably eat around 1600 calories a day, with a few days here and there on 1200.

feliznavidad2 · 17/01/2021 22:05

I'm not counting calories, likely too many but I think I am slowly losing weight. My main aim is to keep going, and to do that at the moment, that means relaxing the rules on some things... e.g. I'm strongly sticking to my fasting window but am allowing myself a small piece of chocolate if I fancy it.

Ok cool thanks both

feliznavidad2 · 18/01/2021 07:50

Weigh in #2: -1lb.

Total weight loss since 4/1/21: -6lb

Was hoping for more but at least it's a loss.

OP posts:
OchonAgusOchonO · 18/01/2021 08:30

@feliznavidad2 - disappointed here too.

I only lost 0.6kg this week so 2.6kg in total. As you say though, at least it's a loss.

LivingInAPrettyWorld · 18/01/2021 08:53

1lb a week is a good steady loss so don't be disheartened. To loss that you need a deficit of 500 calories a day so it's nothing to be disappointed by - plus it's better to lose weight slow and steady as they say, the quicker you lose, the easier it is to gain back.

OchonAgusOchonO · 18/01/2021 09:26

@LivingInAPrettyWorld - logically, I know all that. But I still want it all gone IMMEDIATELY!!!

feliznavidad2 · 18/01/2021 09:27

We got this @OchonAgusOchonO - onwards and upwards.

Much going on this week?

We have nothing extraordinary on... unsurprisingly. Grin

Yeah. We can do it.

To be honest, I'm not finding the fasting part too difficult. Hope you're all ok with that too.

Having the kitchen next door, rather than a canteen down 3 flights of stairs does make snacking more tempting but I'm currently mad busy at work so at least that is distracting me from snacking.

namechangefail2020 · 18/01/2021 09:56

I've stocked the house with only healthy snacks (my poor children) and in the lockdown I wouldn't just pop out for anything bad so it's working great as I can only eat what's there. let's not mention that I also added 3 bottles of gin to the shop so weekends can be tricky haha

Weighed in this morning ... 4lb down since 4th Jan so not too bad as was hoping for 2lb a week until 14lb is gone

Glitterb · 18/01/2021 10:01

@LivingInAPrettyWorld thank you for this, I needed to hear that this morning! I lost 1.5lb this week and felt disappointed, but a loss is a loss 💪🏼

Skinnydecafflatte · 18/01/2021 15:10

Hi, can I join in too please? I weighed myself this morning and I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. At least 3 stone to lose probably more like 4!
I only decided this morning since reading this thread. I had my breakfast at 11 and just going to have 2 boiled eggs, a slice of chicken breasts and 2 satsumas for lunch/snack. Dinner will be about 6pm and was already planned as steak, potato wedges, cooked in dry light, mushrooms and green beans. Then I’ll fast 7pm -11am eek! Seems a long time written down but I managed it today. Hope to be successful as never fasted before, I usually do slimming world.

LadyHedgehog · 18/01/2021 17:26

Hello everyone! I'm already calorie counting but it turns out I am almost accidentally doing the 16/8 by not eating breakfast.

I'm not quite ready to give up the splash of milk in my morning coffee, but I'm going to try not to eat beyond 8:30 - I usually have lunch at 12:30, so I think that works out! Once I've got into a routine I might try to start weaning myself off the morning milk.

Whoateallthechocolate · 18/01/2021 18:55

A loss is always good as it is still a step in the right direction.
I haven't weighed myself today as I hurt my shoulder badly yesterday morning so spent the day on ibuprofen & codeine which has knackered my digestion and eating comfort food which hasn't helped either and today has been more of the same. I've also been told to completely rest it for a fortnight which rules out exercise which really won't help my weight loss.
Back on it tomorrow!

Wearethetwirl · 18/01/2021 20:17

I am keeping to my 16 hr fasts but calorie control died today. I had Pizza Hut pizza today, 3 whole slices plus dessert. Worst eating day for a long time. Sad
