Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

@MsTSwift I started at 10s7 and am now 9s4. I was about 9,2 last April, so I feel v happy that I've managed to get through lockdown with only 2lbs added!
If I did a decent about of exercise and cut down my wine and chocolate habit, I'd be smaller. But this is good for me right now. I fit into all my clothes for the first time in quite a while Grin

feliznavidad2 · 12/01/2021 09:35

Hope the hunger subsided @Welshgal85

I'm due to stop fasting at 11am today... Today's focus is fruit and veg (and no chocolate for a change).

I'll post my food for today this eve.

I just filled up on water! 😂 first proper weekly weigh-in today and I’ve lost 6lb so really pleased with that. Cooking a lasagne for tea tonight so looking forward to that!

Glitterb · 12/01/2021 11:58

Well done everyone on the weigh in!

Does anyone else felt really sick with fasting? i have been fine all last week and this week, however this morning I felt really sick. Managed sip water and felt a bit better but it was horrible!

PeacheyPeach · 12/01/2021 14:32

@glitterb hope you are feeling ok now. I havnt found myself feeling sick in the mornings just gasping for a coffee, which I've managed to put out of my mind by cleaning my teeth!

swishswooshswash · 12/01/2021 16:30

I'd like to join. I've dabbled with 16:8 before but have been doing properly since 1st Jan. Eating between 1pm and 9pm (ideally 12pm and 8pm but dinner often ends up later after putting kids to bed!). I was having milk in coffee in the morning but now having black. Also doing dry January and trying to eat 1200 calories. I'd like to lose a stone and a half ideally, which will be thinner than I've been in years.

I've lost 8lb since weighing in on New Year's Day but mostly bloat and water! Am finding I'm much less hungry as I'm getting more used to it but struggle at 4/5pm when I'm making kids tea and tempted to snack. Think going for a run around this time might help. I'm homeschooling three kids so spending my whole day in the kitchen which is less than ideal!

I started at 13 stone 6lb (eurgh), now at 12 stone 9.5lb (I'm 5'11 and would be very slim at around 11.5 stone).

PeacheyPeach · 12/01/2021 17:48

@swishswooshswash our situations sound very similar x do you eat separate meals to the children. Can I ask what kind of meals do you have? I'm getting bored of chicken!

swishswooshswash · 12/01/2021 19:30

We do - ideally I'd probably eat with the children as I'm hungry then but my husband is still working.

We started using Gousto in the summer when meal planning was driving me insane. We've kept that up and it's brilliant - I order 4 of the lower calorie meals so we still get lots of variety and a meal to look forward too. Plus I know how many calories are in it and can plan lunch/snacks around it.

swishswooshswash · 12/01/2021 19:31

Sorry that was to @PeacheyPeach !

sparklyglitterball · 13/01/2021 10:18

@swishswooshswash is gusto expensive? Do your dc eat the meals? I find the constant meal planning a bit tedious at times too. Hope everyone is getting on ok. I'm finding fasting much easier on my work days, as too busy/distracted to think about food! At home with dc this morning making lots of buttery toast for them has been tough 🤣 drinking coffee helps though.

swishswooshswash · 13/01/2021 10:33

@sparklyglitterball we just get gousto for two of us. Means I cook twice but I enjoy the gousto cooking as don't have to think about it! It's £35 a month for 4 meals. I'm not sure it's cheaper but our shopping bill definitely went down, we have much less waste and I am much happier without the meal planning so worth it for us.

Wearethetwirl · 13/01/2021 10:52

I've lost 2lb in my first week. Got down to my pre-Xmas weight! Not bad going...just 18lb more to go! Grin

happyjack12 · 13/01/2021 11:00

swishswooshswash is it £35 per WEEK for 4 meals? for how many people? sounds good with the benefits you have mentioned! :)

Whoateallthechocolate · 13/01/2021 12:41

Some great losses here and some inspirational tales too. I would love to be 9st12 MrsT but that is something I have seen on the scales for a decade or more and that took a lot of effort. On the other hand, it would still mean I was at the very upper end of a healthy BMI and I know plenty of people thinner than that so, other than greed and lack of willpower, there's no reason why I couldn't do it.
Swish I struggle around then too. I now have a cup of tea and something like a crumpet or an apple with cheese which can keep me going.
I was thrilled to get to midday today with nothing more than a coffee as I was hungry when I went to sleep last night and ravenous when I woke up this morning!

OchonAgusOchonO · 13/01/2021 14:31

@Whoateallthechocolate - I was thrilled to get to midday today with nothing more than a coffee as I was hungry when I went to sleep last night and ravenous when I woke up this morning!

I find lots of fluids fools me into thinking I'm not hungry. This morning I had 2 pots of jasmine green tea and a couple of glasses of water.

Whoateallthechocolate · 13/01/2021 17:25

I have just snapped and eaten my dinner. I'm still hungry and am done for the day calorie wise. I think where I've been going wrong is that, for speed due to workload/home schooling, I've had quite a few bread based meals when I should be focussing more on protein & veg. I also need to ditch the afternoon snack.
Today:

  • lunch - beans on toast, satsuma
  • snacks - banana, coconut macaroon
  • dinner - roast gammon sandwich (the kids had roast gammon for tea and there was leftover meat but not potatoes) with apple sauce
I'm off to read some threads and find out what other people on 1200 calories are eating as I bet they're planning more than me and are making better choices and feeling fuller. At the moment, all I want to do is demolish a bar of chocolate. Instead, I will open a bottle of sparkling water and see if that fills me up!
PuffinFeatures · 13/01/2021 21:29

I'd like to join you all also. Have tried 16:8 before but never truly committed until now! I've apparently lost 4lb since the 1st, am guessing I must've been full of post-christmas bloat and I need to expect that to slow down dramatically. I'm aiming for 10-6 and eating dinner with the kids, but the evenings can be oh so long without snacks! Am hoping some accountability here will keep me going....

swishswooshswash · 13/01/2021 22:53

@happyjack12 yes £35 a week

@Whoateallthechocolate if it helps I had a really low calorie day today and haven't felt too hungry. So no breakfast, then:

Lunch: Tuna sweetcorn salad (cucumber, pepper, tablespoon of Mayo). I find this really filling (300 cals ish)

Snack 5pm: 3 oatcakes, two teaspoons houmus (200 cals ish)

Dinner: Gousto coconut fish curry with brown rice (530 calories)

Three coffees with milk

I find knowing we are having a nice meal in the evening means I can limit what I eat in the day and look forward to it. I did a 6k run too so had plenty of energy. Admittedly today was low for me, eating kids dinner leftovers is my downfall but avoided today.

Also finding Covent Garden soups good for lunch - the veg one is less than 200 calories and really filling.

feliznavidad2 · 14/01/2021 11:50

@swishswooshswash I've got that Gousto fish curry for dinner this eve! 😆 Was it nice?

Trying hard here, scales aren't being especially kind today but think my period is due so hoping it's that.

OP posts:
Whoateallthechocolate · 14/01/2021 13:40

I have fish curry envy!
Tuna salad is all I had today having fasted for 17.5hrs which is a new record for me.

swishswooshswash · 14/01/2021 14:02

Fish curry was really good! Super quick and easy.
I'm feeling very motivated as after my good day yesterday I was another lb off this morning.
Tonight we are having Gousto minty lamb stew which is only 470 cals so should be another decent day. Had scrambled eggs and prawns for lunch.

feliznavidad2 · 14/01/2021 22:53

Loved the fish curry. OH not so keen, but he isn't that much of a coconut lover. Any other Gousto favourites @swishswooshswash ?

We really liked the prawn, pepper and pink pesto linguine this week.

Hope you're all having okay weeks.

I'm planning a couple of semi-indulgent meals over the weekend; chicken arrabiata stew with parmesan dumplings courtesy of BBC Good Food magazine (Jan '21 edition) and a sort of Hairy Bikers filo pie made with leftover turkey and gammon that's been frozen from Xmas.

I'm glad it's Friday tomorrow, work is busy and I need a rest. Wine

Very good on the long fast @Whoateallthechocolate & welcome @PuffinFeatures 👋🏻

OP posts:
Whoateallthechocolate · 15/01/2021 08:44

Both of those meals sound delicious, Feliz. I might pick up a copy of the Good Food magazine as we've got in a bit of a rut with our meals. Having looked into Gousto a bit more, I'm just not sure it's going to suit us. I really miss eating out!
11st1 flickered onto the scales today which means that, if I stick to it over the weekend, I may actually see 11st on Monday. 2 consecutive 3lb losses would be remarkable for me. I am feeling so uncomfortable in all of my clothes that I am reminded each time I move how much I need to lose this weight!

OchonAgusOchonO · 15/01/2021 09:11

I've been cheating slightly by weighing myself in between. I'm only down 0.25kg so far. Really disappointed. I've eaten no rubbish bar 1 square if dark chocolate and 1 slice of bread a day, same as last week. I've been walking (very briskly) every day.

Anyone with experience of doing 16:8 have this?
