Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

Hi. Dropping in. Never ever dieted in my life but.....menopause 😩. So trying 16:8 to see if it works. Basically going to skip breakfast. Today I had tea and then a coffee but with milk (guessing that’s not allowed?) . Ate toast at 11, 2 biscuits at 2 and homemade veg soup with some oatcakes at 6. That’s ok I think? I’m not too hungry but gutted tea and milk not allowed.

Going to do 11-7. Have early lunch then eat tea with the kids.

makingmiracles · 07/01/2021 22:22

Hey can i join? 23:1 here/omad but no current thread for omaders it seems. Lost a couple of stone beg of last yr, firstly doing low carb, then keto then omad, was coming off really well and then lockdown happened and everything just went to pieces.

Re started keto omad on Monday, I’m dirty fasting currently (tea with dash of milk) (i know cream is better) as its sooo cold and i need hot drinks as well as my 3ltr water, will see how i get on and try clean fasting if the weight doesn’t fall off quick enough. -will tell dp what a good loss is per month.

Previously I’ve found weighing derails me, it doesn’t matter if its a good result or bad, if good i think oh i can have a cheat, if bad i think oh what the hell and cheat/fall off the wagon. i have decided this time, after weighing mon morning that i will weigh at end of each month but close eyes an get dp to record the result somewhere i wont find it. Then i can see how much I’ve lost once I’m in a better place and see how much i was losing monthly, without the distraction of knowing at the time! Hopefully that’s a better approach.

Not doing exercise yet, didn’t want to jump in too fast but will give myself a month and start doing some HIIT in feb.

@OchonAgusOchonO I'm pescatarian but don't eat fish that often so mainly eat vegetarian meals :)

Rosecottage888 · 07/01/2021 22:43

Joining too if that's ok! Started 16:8 on Monday, not finding it too hard at the moment. My eating hours are 11-7, need to shift this baby weight!! (not breastfeeding)

feliznavidad2 · 07/01/2021 22:50

Well done all... I had a positively not v healthy tea of oven chips, oven battered fish and baked beans. Was meant to be veg but was running late and had some baked beans that needed eating in the fridge.

Ah well, stuck to my window. Thank goodness it's Friday tomorrow!

(Definitely not veggie here but do eat 1-2 veggie meals each week.) I've just done the food order for tomorrow, lots of chicken for some reason this weekend.

Hope you all make it through tomorrow without any issues - we've got this.Smile

Does anyone find if they have one rubbish meal inbetween fasting it effects weight loss?

I have a rubbish day at work yesterday and came home and had toast and then mini toblerones 🙄 I didn’t eat the whole box however I feel like I have failed at day 4!

Whoateallthechocolate · 08/01/2021 10:35

I'm sooooooooooo hungry!!

OchonAgusOchonO · 08/01/2021 11:06

@Glitterb - no such thing as failing. Only a minor glitch.

Obviously not an ideal meal but just keep going and try to eat healthily during eating windows. Hope you enjoyed the tobleroneSmile

Glitterb · 08/01/2021 11:53

@OchonAgusOchonO it was delicious! And thankfully only the mini ones or I would have devoured the lot!

OchonAgusOchonO · 08/01/2021 11:58

@Whoateallthechocolate

I'm sooooooooooo hungry!!
I was too up until about 30 minutes ago when I had some tea. I didn't have my normal pot of tea as I had to go out for a while and wouldn't have finished it in time. It really showed me how effective tea and water are at masking hunger.

Based on my vast experience (day 5...), drink lots of liquids in the fasting intervals.

TheRogueApostrophe · 08/01/2021 12:23

I've been doing 16:8 (occasionally 18:6) for a few months now. Like most people I put a lot of weight on during the first lockdown and knew I had to do something when I tried my favourite pair of work trousers on and couldn't do them up ☹️ I don't do an awful lot of exercise (even less now I'm WFH and don't have to we walk to the station each day) and I'm not great at stocking to diets so I thought I'd give this a try.

I don't weigh myself so no idea about the numbers but I did notice a difference in my clothes very quickly. I was doing some home exercise and sticking to 1200 calories when I first started, I've slacked with those a bit now.

But I stuck to it over the Christmas period, obviously eating a lot more in my window but I stuck to the window. Fasting highlights all of the 'accidental' eating that I used to do - a lick of the spoon after making the ds peanut butter on toast, a couple of pringles when I walk past them mid morning, a cocktail sausage from the fridge when I'm getting the milk etc. I still think about eating those things but can stop myself when I'm outside of my window. It helps me to 'delay not deny' because I look forward to eating pretty much whatever I want when my window opens. I really don't deny myself anything. Denying doesn't work for me and just leads to bingeing. So I have some days of a very full window and some very lean. I still feel much better in myself than I did before I started.

LadyMcLadyface · 08/01/2021 12:50

Broke my first fast 20 minutes early by accident 😬 oopsie

namechange202086 · 08/01/2021 13:25

I've been managing to fast quite easily while I'm out at work, but not sure how it'll go this weekend. Already in 'treat yourself it's almost the weekend mindset'... must stay strong...

swishswooshswash · 08/01/2021 15:08

Hi! I've been doing 16:8 for a week (though have now realised I shouldn't be having milk in my coffee!). It's been going fine but yesterday I needed to wee constantly. Literally every time I stood up. Has this happened to anyone else? I think I've been drinking more (and definitely more coffee) but not enough to cause this! It's a bit better today but still pretty frequent.
Thanks!

Whoateallthechocolate · 08/01/2021 18:28

I survived until 11.50. I normally break my fast at midday but I didn't eat food after 6.30 last night and finished my cup of tea at 7pm so was over 16 hours.
I was awake for hours last night which is unlike me so this hasn't been an easy day and I have eaten what feels like quite a lot of rubbish but is nothing compared to what I was eating over Xmas.
L - leek & potato soup, 3 slices toast, chunks of cheese
Snack - toasted tea cake & a hot chocolate; some Greek yogurt
Supper - TBC. Haven't been to the supermarket for a week so the cupboards are fairly bare.

GettingThin2021 · 08/01/2021 20:29

Hi. I've been trying his for a few days. I don't fully understand - are there limits on what to eat within the window?
I started without really planning as I had the motivation so I've been eating as healthy as I can but using up what's here and I am most definitely lacking on some fruit and veg.

Planning either SW based meals or calorie controlled but any suggestions welcome!

Whoateallthechocolate · 08/01/2021 20:37

@GettingThin2021 I think it depends why you're doing this. My understanding is that there are health benefits to fasting for 16 hours a day. This may include weight loss if you don't eat back the calories you would have eaten at breakfast (which seems to be the most common meal to miss) or whilst snacking in the evenings. If you are doing it for weight loss purposes, then I do think you have to monitor what you eat. Earlier in the week when I had PMT, I ate within my window but probably consumed at least 3000 calories, if not more. If I did that every day, I wouldn't lose weight - and would probably undo any other health benefits.

I had a slight panic at 7.30 just before my window closed for today as I didn't know what to have for supper so had some lentil soup as it just needed re-heating. That's been a lot of soup today!

namechangefail2020 · 09/01/2021 08:09

Pls can I join. Been doing this for a week and doing well (refuse to weigh myself until after 2 weeks so I'm not disappointed) Started at 10 st 7 and want to lose a stone.

Last night i drank a lot of gin, whoops!! Up Until midnight meaning my bloody eating can't start until 4 and I'm hungover. Black coffee has helped - I think that's ok isn't it? and when hubby gets up I'm going to leave him with the kids and go back to bed, that will help me get through to the 16 hours. Aaaargh!!

feliznavidad2 · 09/01/2021 08:37

@namechangefail2020 - bless you! Personally I'd maybe eat at midday as wouldn't manage that long hungover and then you'll be back in better cycle from tomorrow. Hope you get back to bed for some zzz soon.

namechangefail2020 · 09/01/2021 08:46

@feliznavidad2 I think I just decided to do that haha! At least I've meal planned so will still eat well. An omelette is good for a hangover, not as good as sausage butty but hey ho haha!

feliznavidad2 · 09/01/2021 10:25

Counting down the minutes until food 🤫 weekends definitely feel harder but I'm sure it's psychological and it is only 10.25am.

Chicken parmigiana for dinner this eve. 😋

Hiphopopotamus · 09/01/2021 10:41

I seem to have fallen into an 18:6 pattern quite happily, eating between 12-6. I’m calorie counting quite strictly as I’ve got a lot of weight still to lose and I think I feel more satisfied eating my calorie allowance in a shorter time period rather than spreading it out, as then I get properly full. Obviously only a week in but I’m finding this quite easy going at the moment - we’ll see what the scales say though!

PeacheyPeach · 09/01/2021 15:22

Hi can I ask those who have milk in their hot drinks before their eating window starts, do you think this effects your weight loss or does it not make much difference?
Also ive found that I've just not been hungry after my first meal, so it's been past the time that my eating window would have already closed that I'm eating my 2nd meal. Do you think this will prevent me from losing weight?
Sorry for the super long questions 🤣

OchonAgusOchonO · 09/01/2021 17:10

@PeacheyPeach - regardless of when you eat, you need to consume fewer calories than you use. I think the main reason people lose weight doing IF is that you are eating as normal during the eating intervals so you are consuming less overall.
