Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

@whoateallthechocolate I would listen to your body x you had a great walk yesterday and you have a busy week ahead of you by the sounds of it, so a nice rest day sounds like the best plan xx

LivingInAPrettyWorld · 10/01/2021 19:16

I really find once I've eaten, it unlocks the hunger and I was to scoff my face. So I usually eat until I'm almost full and then start my fast again. I know that's probably not ideal, but I feel it's the only way to stop snacking between meals once the fast has been broken.

RecipeStealingBitch · 10/01/2021 19:54

I’m finding ‘walks’ as good as useless - my DC are 6 and 3 and wanted today to splash and jump in every muddy puddle, so I probably burned off 5 calories as we dawdles along a path......then one of them fell over and wanted to come home so we came back!

I’m eating between 10 and 6, have no idea how people wait til midday as I feel utterly dreadful and so hungry in the mornings - I’ve always loved my breakfasts.

RecipeStealingBitch · 10/01/2021 19:55

^I should say, I wish I could wait a bit longer but 10am is as good as it gets!

atticuslovesscout · 10/01/2021 20:18

Can I join please? I have tried this before and quite like it but because I am the only one I know who does it I don't get much encouragement. I'm 5ft 4in and weigh 12 stones!!

OchonAgusOchonO · 10/01/2021 20:40

@RecipeStealingBitch - I should say, I wish I could wait a bit longer but 10am is as good as it gets!

10 until 6 is no different to 12-8. You need to do what works for you. For me, finishing at 6 would be really difficult so the later stint works better for me. I basically spend the morning drinking tea so I don't feel too hungry then.

marmiteprincess · 10/01/2021 21:37

I'd love to join you. Sorry to be a pain but can you eat anything in non fasting times and can I drink Diet Coke in fast times?

LivingInAPrettyWorld · 10/01/2021 21:55

@marmiteprincess coke should definitely be avoided in fasting times. Anything that contains calories should be avoided as it makes your insulin spike, so stick to water or black tea / coffee.

As for whether you can eat anything - if you want to lose weight then no, you will need to be mindful about what you're eating. Most people lose weight on 16:8 because they are skipping a meal so they're eating 2, rather than 3 a day. So less food and snacking.

If you want to do 16:8 for the health benefits and not lose weight, then that's a different matter.

MsTSwift · 10/01/2021 23:06

Well I have Earl grey tea and coffee in my fasting morning both with semi skimmed milk - really don’t care if that breaks any rules I’ve lost 2 stone and kept it off doing so so figured it’s fine. If I’m forgoing breakfast and biscuits at 11 (my old habits) I am jolly well having a dash of milk in my tea and coffee!!

feliznavidad2 · 11/01/2021 07:37

I think whatever works for you, I personally am trying to be quite strict at the moment about ensuring my fasts are clean but also recognise that this may not always be such.

My aim is to try and make this new habit sustainable as so I keep going with it (this may more chocolate and or wine than is necessarily advised is consumer some weeks.)

-5lb this morning after my first week of 16/8, which I'm happy with. Grin

This week we've got Gousto boxes for a few days, I like them even if the meals aren't labelled as being such healthy ones as it just gives me a break from the monotony of deciding what to meal plan for the week ahead.

The meals we've gone for this week are cottage pie with broccoli, prawn and pesto linguine, haddock fragrant curry and spiced chicken burger with chips (for Friday eve!) Blush

Hope you all get weigh in results that you're happy with.

Well done, Feliz, that is a great start. I've just weighed in and have lost 3lb which, as I have been sticking (largely) to the times but not excessively monitoring what I'm eating, I'm happy with. Of course, I dreamed of more but it's still a start.
For me, my stats are:
Starting weight - 11st6
Today - 11st3
Goal for next Monday - 11st
Goal for end of month - 10st10
Initial overall goal - 10st4 (which I haven't even seen flicker on the scales for 5yrs and haven't been for 6 years)

Recipe my two are older than yours and, whilst they moan and moan and often get filthy on a walk, at least they can go at a decent pace and we no longer have to abandon walks as they've filled their wellies etc. I do still mix up my walks though by going out a few times a week with a friend who races along as those actually feel like exercise. Even in normal times, I wfh 2 days a week and, on those days, a 10 - 6 eating window would suit me better but, on office days, I'm only getting back from work at 6 and at a weekend we tend to eat as a family and not until about 6.30/7.00 and I realised last time I did this that I need to keep my window consistent as otherwise I just get confused!

feliznavidad2 · 11/01/2021 08:52

Good work @Whoateallthechocolate Smile It's all progress isn't it?!

My eating window is currently 10.30-18.30, I really need to cut back on the 2-3 Hotel Chocolat truffles which I keep snaffling before closing my window. I've agreed with OH that from today, I'm only allowing myself any HC every other day.

@Whoateallthechocolate @feliznavidad2

Well done both of you. I'm down 2kg, which I'm pretty happy with. I'm not starving myself so it's more sustainable.

I'm also indulging in a daily bit of chocolate but the Vivani chocolate is almost gone. I'm hoping I'll resist the rest of what's left as it's not as good quality.

feliznavidad2 · 11/01/2021 09:59

Awesome @OchonAgusOchonO 👏🏻 great result at this point, especially with a little bit of what you fancy too.

Glitterb · 11/01/2021 10:24

Lost 8lbs this week which I am over the moon about! I don’t feel like I am massively deprived as I just limit what I’m eating. So far so good, hopefully!

OchonAgusOchonO · 11/01/2021 13:00

That's amazing @Glitterb. Well done.

PeacheyPeach · 11/01/2021 17:16

@glitterb @whoateallthechocolate they are great results well done 😍
I am on day 7 but I'm not going to weigh for a few weeks.
What we your thoughts on carbs? Do you limit them?

Whoateallthechocolate · 11/01/2021 17:47

Wow Glitter, that's a fabulous start!
Fasted until 12.30 today.
Lunch: 3 egg omelette with loads of mushroom & garlic
Snack: muffin with marmite; apple
Supper: either sea bass and salad or, if DH doesn't want to eat when I do, tuna salad.

Glitterb · 11/01/2021 18:14

@PeacheyPeach I try to have everything in moderation or I just crave it! I’m upping my veg and fruit intake and then seeing what I fancy. Bread is my absolute weakness and no longer have this in the house

sparklyglitterball · 11/01/2021 20:29

Hi, I'd like to join please Smile I was doing a version of 16:8 in the lead up to Christmas, and lost 3kg in a few weeks. Managed to put most of that back on over Christmas and New Years! It's taken me a while to slowly get back into the zone, but seem to getting there now. I don't stick to the rules fully as have a splash of milk in my tea and coffee in the fasting window. Plus, I always allow myself a bit of chocolate or something sweet in the evenings once dc are all settled in bed. I'm still breastfeeding toddler dd a couple of times per day. You are all doing so well and losing lots of weight quickly!

feliznavidad2 · 11/01/2021 20:50

Amazing @Glitterb ! 👏🏻

I've eaten too much today. And DS's desperate plea for pancakes mid PM wasn't especially helpful either (as surprise surprise, I'm a sucker for a pancake. 🥞)

Onwards and upwards, going to make sure I eat more fruit and veg tomorrow.

gooseygooseywanderingfree · 11/01/2021 21:28

I started just before lockdown last year. I'm so glad that I did because I'm a really emotional eater, so by the time this all became really serious and stressful, I'd lost weight and got into a good fasting habit which I've managed to carry on.
I tend to do 20:4, with a longer window at the weekend.
@PeacheyPeach I've always done "clean" fasting so no milk in my tea etc. When I did my initial reading up, it made sense to me to stick with "bitter" drinks so as to make sure you didn't get an insulin spike. I'm used to black coffee / tea now.
I don't calorie count either. One of the things that keeps me on track is that I know I can eat whatever I like in my eating window. I try to be sensible, but I absolutely do go by the "Delay Don't Deny" mantra!

MsTSwift · 11/01/2021 21:59

Whoate your stats the same as mine I started 11 st 6 IF and cardio now 9 st 12.

Welshgal85 · 11/01/2021 22:50

Managed to do a YouTube workout this morning then had a salad for lunch and fajitas for tea so fairly healthy today, though I’m feeling hungry already! 😐

sparklyglitterball · 11/01/2021 22:52

I'm also calorie counting in my eating window and logging it on my fitness pal. I wish I could follow the plan properly like @gooseygooseywanderingfree but don't think I could cope without milk in drinks in the mornings!
