I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

Ok, I've read the first chapter now :) so you are all doing 800 everyday? I have DH and DS to cook for (and they are fussy) - I'm not sure how I will make that work...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2019 21:26

The fast 800 is 800 calories a day for two weeks I think, but it's 800 cals of high fat, low carb food. No pasta, rice, potato, sugar, bread etc.

You can do a 5:2 version, I think, which would be just a higher calorie count on the remaining days. You can do any variation on this theme really, eg alternate days, weekdays @ 800 and weekends higher etc etc, but the 800 for 2 weeks is suggested to be a way to start yourself off with a good quick weightloss.

There's more intro info on our blood sugar diet thread, but you are better off getting the book as well.

By the way, did anyone watch the junk food experiment with Michael mosely last night?

Jacksback · 28/02/2019 22:08

downrightamazing
It’s 800 a day for 8 weeks max , 2 weeks min
A long daily fast ,so say skip breakfast and just lunch and tea . I eat only meals no snacks and only eat between 12 noon and 8 ,
It’s disciplined but do able
The hunger wears off ( honestly )
I can’t believe how much I used to eat but always be hungry
Give it a go

ParmaViolet44 · 28/02/2019 22:39

@thenewaveragebear1983 I didn't see it yet (recorded it) but I do remember Supersize Me from a few years ago with Morgan Spurlock. He ate McDonalds for every meal for about a month and the results were staggering! Looking forward to seeing this updated version!

WhoNose21 · 01/03/2019 07:44

Hi everyone. Just caught up with the thread and you’re all doing so well! I have done terrible this week, cannot get my head into the game at all. But new month today and I need to get with it. I’ve just started reading the book today. I’m going to stick to 800 calories but now worry about cutting carbs. I’m a fussy eater (stupidly so infant) so I know I won’t be able to stick to no potatoes/bread etc but obviously restricting myself to 800 calories means I can’t go stuffing my face so going to try Cut down on the carbs but stick to less than 800 calories. Snacking is my biggest downfall by far so no crisps, chocolate or junk is coming into the house. I have to lost 5 stone by September, I HAVE to so really need to get a grip of myself now!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/03/2019 07:51

Who nose me too, I've had a really up and down month, so hoping that March will be more focussed, less snacky and generally more in control!

Jacksback · 01/03/2019 09:26

No loss today but jeans are much looser and a top I hardly ever wear as it pulls across the girls , is fitting great today
Was up on carbs yday slightly and out with work for pizza tonight so 😕 let’s see how that works out but I checked calories and if I have a sliver then I would be ok , but we all know that ain’t going to happen !
I checked the menu and all they do is pizza , no chicken salad or anything remotely on plan
Be back on it tomorrow tho
Happy Friday ladies x

WhoNose21 · 01/03/2019 09:35

Just met my mum for breakfast and she’s commented on how ‘massive’ I am... thanks mum 👍🏻 Might just have fresh air and water for breakfast!

Jacksback · 01/03/2019 09:42

whonose
That’s hurtful , no need for comments like that
Have a lovely low carb breakfast and ruse abive it Flowers

OhMrTumnus · 01/03/2019 10:05

@WhoNose21 mothers have a way of making us feel our best and our worst, don't they. Good luck with starting today!

@Jacksback after trying to be so good when out for drinks/dinner for the first couple of weeks, I decided that it was better to relax for 1 or 2 evenings and just enjoy myself, so I drink and eat but try to make the healthier choices if possible.

DareDevil223 · 01/03/2019 12:20

Scale had gone up slightly this morning and I've stuck 100% to below 800 cals. I know it's fluid or that I need the loo or something other than a fat gain but it's still annoying. To be honest it's the kind of thing that in the past would often make me say 'sod it' and stuff my face. I'm not wasting all this effort though so I'll keep on keeping on.

I've noticed this pattern in the past, I have a dramatic first week, a not very good second week and then (if I stick with it) it all gets moving again.

I'm still feeling a bit rubbish though Sad

ParmaViolet44 · 01/03/2019 13:30

@DareDevil - I know exactly how you feel. I can't remember the number of times I stepped on the scales all excited after a week of being very strict and doing everything right and then feeling totally crap when I had gained a pound or something. Then I would fall off the wagon spectacularly and gain even more, then the cycle would begin again.

I'm determined this time to keep at it, and just assume things will get moving by the following week. Let's see! Wink

@WhoNose21 - I'm sorry your mum said that, no need to be so blunt and hurtful! It's not like you're not trying! Have another Flowers and keep at it.

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 01/03/2019 15:01

@DareDevil223 I know what you mean, it's super disheartening. I'm the same today as I was yesterday. I put that down to not enough drinks and too much (seconds and thirds hehehe whoops!) vegetable and pasta bake ... Darn that cheesy goodness. Still I'm cracking on cracking on and know that tomorrow is another day. We have totally got this peeples!

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 01/03/2019 15:06

@WhoNose21 Hmm helpful. I'm afraid that sort of thing would really trip my bitch switch. Something along the lines of 'and yet, I'll still be organising your funeral so unless you want to join landfill after you've croaked your last keep your shitty opinions to yourself. K? K.'

DareDevil223 · 01/03/2019 17:28

I know that I can't possibly have gained a pound of fat since yesterday whilst eating 800 cals so hopefully it's water weight that will have dropped off tomorrow plus some extra.

I'm still on the wagon, I did a 45 minute kettlebell workout, ate my lunch (veggie sausages and scrambled eggs) and then tidied out, cleaned and rearranged my big kitchen food cupboard so keeping busy.

I've been on leave this week as I'm starting a new job on Monday. I'm excited to start, it's a good jump up in money and seniority and the work should be fascinating (I work in HE). I'm glad to have lost a bit of weight before I start. Hopefully being busy and engaged (and doing more walking on my commute) should really help my weight loss.

@WhoNose21 so sorry about that nasty comment from your mum, that would have really upset me Sad. I lost my mum three years ago and although she would have been worried about the weight I've put on, she would have been very kind and supportive about it. We'll support you though xx

Daredevil there's a school of thought that says that our weight today is representative of our food 10 days ago. I've read articles to this effect before but despite extensive google searches today I can't find one! A pound overnight is almost 100% water.

You'll find that you'll come to know how much your 'capacity' is for water gain (for me it's about 3lbs) as water retention is linked with glycogen depletion/storage, and I can gain this overnight with a few meals off plan, and lose it just as quickly once I'm back on track.

DareDevil223 · 01/03/2019 18:39

@thenewaveragebear1983 Yes I've read that before too but I can't remember where. I'm finding that daily weighing is helping as you can see the day to day natural fluctuations, I'm learning to attach less emotion to the scale which is good for me.

I'm 51 and peri menopausal but still having periods and while I used to have a very regular cycle, these days I never know but water retention is a feature of that too.

I am determined to get slim Smile

Great work @DareDevil223 - so satisfying, isn't it.

Can I ask how everyone get the fibre into their diets? I'm fine with the protein and low carb but struggling a bit with fibre.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 02/03/2019 12:29

@OhMrTumnus linseeds!

Knowivedonewrong · 02/03/2019 12:45

Hi, I've just read the book and this thread and have been inspired to join you all if that's ok.

I've been overweight since I had my son 21 years ago!!
Enough is enough and it's time for a change.

I'm starting a new job on the 11th and when I tried on my uniform it was too snug.
I had to ask for a bigger size and I think that has given me the kick up the arse I need to lose weight, and the fact my new job is working with kids after school for a company that promotes an active lifestyle!

So Monday I will crack on and shift my flab!

viccat · 02/03/2019 14:40

@OhMrTumnus I get fibre from milled flax seed, lentils and beans, vegetables. You can also add psyllium husk powder to yoghurt etc.

UAEMum · 02/03/2019 15:43

I joined today and am sad that nothing seems to happen for a week. What am I meant to do in orientation week?

Jacksback · 02/03/2019 15:57

uaemum I’ve lost 5lb in 5 days so I am sure you will see changes in a week ,

Had pizza last night and choc so was scared to step on scales !but no loss and no gain
Relaxing a touch from the strictness of mon to fri , but not eating everything in sight like I normally do at the weekend 😕 just refused homemade pizza from dp which are my fave . I don’t know who was more shocked me or him
Does anyone else do this ? Does it stop the fat burning process or or does it happen and just slow the weight loss down ?
