Another pound down this morning but (TMI) I really need a poo!

I promised to take my children to McDonalds for lunch today. It was torture. The little buggers ate it in the car on the way home from a football tournament and I swear I nearly cried. Came home and had a mushroom omelette. Sad

I've just eaten 2 Quorn mini sausages to stave off hunger, but there's a bottle of Pinot Noir in the kitchen begging me to open it.

Salmon fillet and courgetti tonight for me - everyone else is getting their salmon with thai sticky rice and corn on the cob. I'm saving myself for the wine.

I might have a job interview next week so need to make sure I can fit into something from my old work wardrobe.

Does anyone else have a fitbit and trust the exercise calories 'earned'? I'm happy to believe what it says for an hour of weights or 15k steps, or a run, but it seems to 'give' me quite a lot for things like mowing the lawn and bimbling round the shops. I'm trying to stay between 800-900 calories on food and drink and not treat the exercise as extra to be used, but it's very tempting some days.

ATurnipOfMyOwn · 12/05/2018 18:46

Dragon that's amazing for one week! I still can't believe I'm 7.5lbs down after 4 days but it seems you've had the same sort of result so maybe my scales aren't broken. Keeping it up will be the hard thing for me, but I can be pretty determined when I set my mind to something.

My goal is 2 stone also, although I'd like to reach the magic 9 stone by the time I go on holiday in August.

DandelionAndBedrock · 12/05/2018 19:04

Well done everyone :).

I had to wait 15 minutes for the fishmonger in Waitrose to fillet some mackerel for our dinner tonight - found myself standing in magazines and birthday cards because it was excruciating walking down the other aisles Grin.

Dragonfly I’ve upped my target from 1.5 to 2 stones as well. A good friend has promised he’ll take me for sushi and dim sum if I hit my target...and remain there for the two weeks after I finish my 8 week session. I haven’t told him I’ve increased my target.

PhyllisWig · 12/05/2018 19:37

I've had a lush day of food today. On top of my lovely haddock at lunch my Thai green prawn curry was amazing (although I really need to stop pretending I like the zero carb noodles) and just closed the kitchen with a bowl of oppo salted caramel ice cream plus raspberries. I think I clocked at around 750. I was a bit carby I think - had a latte for breakfast and so whilst the oppo is a weekend treat, it all got a bit too much maybe. Must dial down the milk,

Turnip I have a Fitbit. Unfortunately I don’t really trust it on the calories earned. Some days I seem to burn 3000 mostly pottering around after Ds and then others I feel I should earn more. When I run it seems to calculate burned calories purely on my mass x distance but fails to take into account effort (eg 6k treadmill vs 6k hills) and also time (so basically allows the same calories for a walk as for a run). I don’t want to believe that this is true!!!

As I run an average of 3-5k every day, and also as this isn’t my first round of BSD, I do just tend to allow more calories daily now. I have about 1000-1200 most days, still avoiding the big white carbs and sugar and fruit, and keeping generally under 50g carbs. This does seem to work. When I’ve tried to do 800 I either struggle to run or struggle to keep to it so it’s better to plan more in. When I do things like gardening, 30 day shred etc I never eat those extra calories as I see that as just ‘normal life’.

I’ve been out today for afternoon tea. It was very nice, but d’you know what? It wasn’t amazing. I obviously said it was because no one wants a sourpuss spoiling their cake, but I had 2 little sandwiches, a vol au vent, a scone and 2 little macaroons, plus prosecco and a teeny slice of cake. I always knew it was planned so I’m not concerned, just onwards now to tomorrow!

We’re out tonight at a 40th party and I feel great, I’m wearing a fab dress and I look hopefully skinny and will be seeing people I haven’t seen in ages so it’s so good to be going out confident for a change!

Hello! My name now reflects my new discipline. I feel an aura of gravitas around it Grin This will be a long post because I'm hiding at the computer away from the living room where DH and DC are eating a sourdough pizza and popcorn Hmm I had to tell him to put the leftover pizza away and explain that it's like leaving crack in front of an addict. He really doesn't get the struggle Hmm

Bear have a great night tonight and well done on the slinky dress Smile Well done turnip and dragonfly on losses. Turnip there's a good description upthread of how to turn off the exercise cals on MFP if your Fitbit is linked - think Bear gave the instructions. I don't count my exercise cals but I do aim to hit 8-10,000 steps a day.

Constipation - eating some carbs at lunch helps me. Lentil soup / steamed sweet potato / quinoa etc. Also a tip from the BSD forum: set your alarm half an hour earlier and drink a pint of water (or as much as you can stomach). Lie down and wait for the stirrings! That helped me when I was stuck for a couple of days. Some people swear by doing the same with hot water and lemon.

A GREAT RECIPE! - This will be nothing new for low carbers but I got it from the Clever Guts App (only 99p in Play Store at the minute, has lots of recipes). It's called mozzarella slices - half a cauliflower grated and steamed (like cauli rice), then mix in 2 beaten eggs, 70g grated mozzarella, salt, pepper, garlic and a teaspoon of oregano. Flatten onto a greased baking tray (I just used fry light) and bake at 220degC for twenty mins. Scatter another 30g of mozzarella on top and bake for five more mins. Half of it came in at 245cals and saved me from eating the pizza - when it cools down a little it's quite pizza-like with the cheese and oregano. I'm going to have the other half for lunch tomorrow with salad.

Hello and good luck to everyone else! I'm closing kitchen at 1054 cals and 11,000 steps so far. We can do this!

DragonflyInn · 12/05/2018 21:10

dandelion I'd not be telling him either! Like the idea of going out for your celebration during the sushi casually mentioning that you not only hit your target, you smashed it with an extra half stone!

Enjoy your night bear. Must be lovely when you can see the difference all your hard work has achieved!

PrimalLass · 12/05/2018 22:57

I've had a terrible two days of food. Too ashamed even to catch up Blush but will start again tomorrow ...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/05/2018 08:51

Morning all. We had a good night last night, I didn’t have any buffet or cake as we ate before we left (anyone interested in tapas- we had a few items from Tesco’s range which was really nice although the falafel had delicious apricot jam in them). Today I feel a bit bleaugh actually, probably from drinking in the afternoon, and then evening, and all the carbs consumed, as opposed to having drank too much.

My week ahead is going to go like this:
Run today. Lamb mince stuffed peppers for dinner.
30 day shred in the other days with maybe a short treadmill run as well.
Must plan my menu and go shopping!
Run Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Potential obstacles:
Working on Thursday all day. Shouldn’t be a problem but just take packed lunch.
PtA summer Fayre Friday, so will be making a hundred iced crown shaped biscuits and probably cupcakes too!
Meal at in laws on Friday- shouldn’t be too bad as mil is doing lamb shanks which are ok.
Meal at parents on sunday to welcome home globe-trotting brother. I have been asked to make elaborate chocolate cake.

Also, Dh and I have decided we will try to go alcohol free until we go on holiday for Whitsun (only 2 weeks) as we have had rather too many events recently and have drunk a fair bit. I feel a bit jaded by it all!

I’ve weighed in this morning at 10.12 which is a 2lb gain in the last week or so- not horrendous given how it’s been, but I’d really like to lose that and a bit more before we go away. I’m still due on (late actually now) and trying not to worry whether that means anything significant (hoping not, hoping it’s just from upping my exercise and hopefully balancing my hormones a bit) but as a result I am retaining a lot of water too.

PhyllisWig · 13/05/2018 09:02

Sounds like a good night bear and a clear plan. I always get so envious of your running! I hate having to give it up even though I was awful at it.

I am avoiding alcohol - not a big drinker and associate it with blow outs and indulgences so can't trust myself. Do you think you'll find it easier to avoid?

And welcome to the late club! I decided my bloatiness was down to not enough water and poo rather than pmt in the end but would still quite like the old bastard to turn up - it's been over 4 weeks now which is a long time for me as I have short cycles and am NEVER late. I suspect it's the rapid fat loss/oestrogen thing playing tricks.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/05/2018 09:09

Mmmm lurking with interest.

I already do moderate carb and do intermittent fasting.

But I feel like I binge on fruit, have blood sugar issues she even though I'm a size ten, have some tummy fat

At the moment, I do veg/fruit smoothies for a late breakfast. They have to go don't they?!

No bananas?

I do a lot of sporty hobbies do think I still need some carbs.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/05/2018 09:19

Hi called, welcome. We do eat carbs on this plan, just not the really bad ones (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar), so you could still do your sports. No bananas though, sorry! I have shakes/smoothies which I make with almond milk, berries, avocado, and I’ve started adding raw broccoli or cucumber to them now as well. Have you tried cutting back on the fruit at all? I used to eat so much fruit as I was an ex slimming world member- now I eat virtually none and I don’t really miss it. It’s just a habit I was in that I’ve now changed.

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 13/05/2018 09:22

I'm still eating some berries - mainly in my gin Confused

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/05/2018 09:23

Thanks so much for replying.

No - I have Brent really been on a diet at all. I changed my way of eating to grain free for health reasons. But I know my blood sugar isn't good.

And I snack on medjool dates so no wonder!

Where do you get your recipes from? I saw a couple things online.

The biggest change will be ditching my "healthy" snacks and fewer carbs. But I want an inch off my tummy and so that a huge incentive

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/05/2018 09:24

I can't eat dairy so that limits me a lot

PrimalLass · 13/05/2018 09:31

I'm not meant to eat wheat but did yesterday. Lunch in the sun at a beach cafe and I just couldn't resist onion rings.

Hey ho. Onwards and downwards.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/05/2018 09:42

(Except I have name changed so often since first chatting to you on MN)

veryveryquietly · 13/05/2018 09:42

Hey Phyllis I think your diagnosis is exactly right. First phase of BSD is a crazy enough change for your body that everything's all in a muddle, esp oestrogen/fat/etc. You could always take a trip somewhere: for me, long-distance flights frequently triggered my period, enough that I learned to always be prepared, even at mid-cycle. (Got to say, there are some real plusses to going through the change. Do not miss periods one bit, feel plenty womanly without them.)

bear I think the delayed appearance of sunny weather has really had an effect this year. I was doing great on no/limited alcohol while it was still dark, dismal, and rainy, but the improved weather has just meant many more chances and a whole lot more desire to linger over a bottle in the early evenings. One thing that has helped occasionally me is to have a big bottle of sparkling water at the same time, and alternate: half glass of wine sipped, then full glass of sparkling. It at least slows me down and keeps me from just drinking the wine because I am thirsty (the other effect of sunshine).

Of course, I totally blew that measured careful approach Friday night so who am I to talk? :) I even had dessert wine, yikes. (I did look it up after and at least it was lower in cals than actual dessert. And it was delish.) But now that I'm doing looser later rounds of BSD, I need to learn it's ok to have occasional indulgences if I generally eat healthily enough to balance them out.

PrimalLass · 13/05/2018 09:48

Ooh hello. It's nice that someone recognises me :-)

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/05/2018 09:53

:)

I’m now browsing recipes and feeling inspired.

I guess paleo is, in theory, higher sugar than the BSD?

ChocEggNoThanks · 13/05/2018 10:56

Stay the same this morning so really all I've done this week is lose the damage from last weekend plus 2lbs. Going to give it one more week and if it's still 2lbs or so loss I will move onto 4:3. So 12.25lbs in 3 weeks but most was in first 2 weeks before the ruinous bank holiday weekend.

On period front mine actually came a day early and was really heavy first two days. Hope it settles!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/05/2018 11:13

Called paleo has some similarities but allows more natural sugar than BSD. (Things like honey, etc)
When I’m looking for recipes I use a mixture of Pinterest (low carb, paleo, Keto recipes) and also normal recipe books where I can just modify them a bit. Hairy bikers is supposed to be good, and I love Jamie Oliver’s 30 and 15 minutes books.

I'm making crustless pizza for lunch. I put large two slices of ham on a pyrex dish lid, then I've sprinkled 60g of grated mozzarella on top. Bake. Comes in at about 230 cals. If I had any salad I would add that too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/05/2018 17:38

We’ve just had this for dinner. If you’re looking for a recipe with mince I can highly recommend!

Reasonable day today - rents for lunch and df low carbs as he is diabetic so they get it. Lovely bit of plaice plus some rhubarb and cream for pud. Dh, dm and kids had apple pie and custard the swines (and Yorkshire's, stuffing and new potatoes).

Did a walk up a big hill and some flow yoga so even though I'll be closer to 900, it was ok. I love yoga with Adrienne!
