Can't help with the bsd sweet treats question I'm afraid but just wanted to say its been so useful reading these threads, thank you all! I've lost 8lbs so far and honestly, this diet has been a revelation to me. Would never have thought I could do it before! Thanks snowglobe for the walnuts tip. I'm not mad keen on nuts but will give it a go!

Can I ask a couple of questions? Sorry if they've been covered before - I'm in a bit of information overload from the book and online! Is milk bsd friendly do you know? Obviously I'm accounting for it in my 800 cals. I find half a glass of milk the perfect way to get rid of my afternoon snack craving (don't drink tea or coffee).

My other question was any tips for eating out? We have dinner, bed and breakfast at a smart hotel this weekend and I really want to enjoy our treat, but not derail everything I've achieved this week!

veryveryquietly · 10/05/2018 20:06

Hi Dragonfly when eating out I usually end up going over the target amount of calories for the day. But what I try to do is stick to lean protein and low carb-ish veg where I can, and cheese for dessert. So, usually I opted for steak or roast chicken or fish plus green veg or salad. Steak or really nice fish usually still makes dining out feel decadent, and at least you can still have rich cheese or cream sauces even if you have to skip the potatoes and rice.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/05/2018 20:15

Dragon milk is fine, just count it. Full fat is best really but semi or skimmed if not. For your night away I find restaurants are usually pretty good as you can select something off the menu and just ask for veg or salad rather than potatoes/chips/ rice etc, and breakfast is ok too if you have a cooked breakfast, or depending on the place you might get smoked salmon and eggs, or similar.

Posted too early!

Kitchen closing on 1350 today. 44g carbs, 15k steps. It took every fibre of my being not to go for a run as I promised my poor aching joints I would rest them this week. I’m due on, cranky, bloated and emotional. And to top it all off I made 25 pic n mix sweetie cones for the summer pta Fayre and the smell of sugar was almost unbearable. My strict week has not exactly gone to plan, and tomorrow is Friday and then I’ve got afternoon tea on Saturday! So I can safely say that I won’t be losing any weight this week!

I’m having a bit of a plateau this week which is frustrating (I think maybe for DP too, who is threatening to take the scales away from me...) BUT I have finally lost the pound that has been taunting me all week, taking me to 1.5stone loss over 4 weeks. This has tipped my BMI from obese to overweight, which I am delighted with.

Still another 2.5 stone to go before I am comfortably into my “healthy” weight, and another 3.5 for my target, but it’s nice to reach a benchmark in an otherwise slow week.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/05/2018 23:25

@DandelionAndBedrock and anyone else who is suffering with plateaus, I heartily recommend Trendweight or Happy Scales. Happy scales is iOS but Trendweight is a website. They both do a weight projection that really helps when you think you are stuck.

Snowglobes · 11/05/2018 00:33

I’m off to bed after a fab day out. Drank several alcoholic beverages. Have consumed a whopping 1343 cals and 60g carbs. Tomorrow won’t be any better. I’ll enjoy it, make BSD friendly choices (bar the alcohol), I’ll input in the app ascits still interesting see the actual values. Nigh night

PrimalLass · 11/05/2018 00:35

Bet it was lovely though.

PrimalLass · 11/05/2018 00:37

My strict week hasn't gone to plan either but I'm hoping that I might have still dropped a couple of lb. V quiet weekend ahead - I'm going to remake the fish curry that worked so well for me in week 1.

PrimalLass · 11/05/2018 07:27

1lb off this morning. That's me past my set weight but can I stay there? I'll have to have a very well-behaved weekend. I still want to lose another 9lb minimum.

PrimalLass · 11/05/2018 07:38

Dandelion - 1.5 st in 4 weeks is amazing.

PutTheChocEggDown · 11/05/2018 11:13

Well done Dandelion and Primal! Dandelion that's a huge achievement.

Grim that's a great tip about the web scales thing. I was disappointed Happy Scales was only on IOS as it's such a great idea.

Sorry I'm on phone as usual so can't read back but whoever was looking for puds the Hairy Bikers veg cookbook has a couple of recipes I can share if you want - a choc avocado mousse and a rum, raisin and pumpkin ice cream.

Another 2lbs off this morning! So 12.25 lbs in not quite 3 weeks. MM (our revered leader) is right about the motivation thing. It really does help keep the motivation high. I normally allow 1000-1200 cals on Fri and Sat but only if I need them. I'm enjoying feeling more in control of my eating. Exercising in the evening is definitely part of it - going for a walk every night seems to kill any late night cravings.

PrimalLass · 11/05/2018 12:12

I've started walking again too. Only managed 4km this morning as I was meeting someone for breakfast at 10. Had two poached eggs, two slices of gf toast and two lattes 🙄

That's it until fish curry for dinner though.

PhyllisWig · 11/05/2018 12:13

Morning all

So happy to see lots of great work and success.

I'm doing better - had a drop at last yesterday and another tiny one this morning so hopefully it has kickstarted. Still no period though which is annoying (I have no Fallopian tubes so no bsd baby).

Went out with a friend for a quick dinner last night to a noodle bar but stuck to the salad which was immense so came in nicely on plan.

Physio this afternoon so may have news on the exercise front as well.

Good weekends to all!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/05/2018 12:59

Dandelion that’s a great loss. And Phylis also, glad the scales are moving!

I had a pre weekend weigh in this morning and I’m still 10.10 which although that’s a maintain, is actually a maintain which I’m bloody chuffed with after the week I’ve had! I am definitely retaining water as my fingers are all bloated and I’m still due on so maybe I’ll even see a little loss by Monday.

We had a glass of wine last night but tonight I’m going to just drink tonic water. We drank rather a lot last weekend, plus we’re out Saturday night. It’s the wine that tips me over the edge calories wise so I really need to rein it in a bit. Two weeks to our holiday so, in true bear style, I must must must actually have a strict week or two! I say this every week I know!

Must keep on keeping on and all that...,

I did just run 11km though, my longest run yet!

Well, didn't make it to the gym this morning. Work has been crazy today (some at home this morning, now at the office) but at least I no longer feel like throwing things at people. Definitely gym tomorrow.

Had a skim cappuccino (no almond milk at work cafe, alas) and some chocolate along with my leftover roast salmon for lunch. Still, considering work stress and related oversnacking this week, I was relieved to see that scale numbers are steady, not really down but at least not up.

Ordered some new tops to accommodate the smaller me, and they are still too big so are going back. Bummed that I don't have new clothes, but happy that my shape is definitely changing!

ATurnipOfMyOwn · 11/05/2018 14:19

Hello - can I join in please? My OH is already fed up with me whatsapping him photos of my meals!

Started BSD on Tuesday, and I have been sticking to it very well, though was a bit dizzy when I got up yesterday morning.

Start weight was 11st 4lbs, much of which has crept up on me over the last 18 months. I hadn't planned to weigh myself every day but thought I'd just have a liitle look this morning and found I'm down to 10st 11.5lbs already, so that's 6.5lbs in 3 days, which seems insane, but is incredibly motivating.

I usually manage 10k steps or more each day but I've been very lazy today for some reason - I had to miss my pilates class as I was waiting for a delivery but did do an hour of weights/circuits on Wednesday. I need to start running again, but I'm a cold-weather runner, hate the heat and usually look like a sweaty tomato after 10 mins in anything over about 15 degrees.

My most likely downfall will be wine at the weekend - I hereby declare that I shall self-limit to max 2 glasses Friday and Saturday. Let's see if I stick to it.

Pesto fish and roasted mediterranean veg tonight for dinner. I hadn't finished the book when I did the Ocado shop in a hurry so had to sort of guess this week, and we've had fish every night. I don't eat meat, so will have to put a bit more thought into the shopping list for next week. Or start eating cows again after 25 years. Grin

PutTheChocEggDown · 11/05/2018 23:09

Welcome Turnip 😊

Kitchen closing at 1100 cals. I had some dark chocolate tonight and highly recommend it! It's the dark salted 70% bar from Hotel Chocolat but it's amazingly savoury- tastes more like 85% or more. Really satisfying, it's in a pack of 2 thin slabs and half a slab feels like plenty but is only 136 cals. I nearly could have stopped after a single bite.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Fri night.

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/05/2018 00:00

Closed the kitchen at 795.
I tried the Diet Doctors Italian Crack Slaw which was quite nice, but I admit it's tough at the mo. I've had a few veggie meals this week and it's been tough to keep motivated.
I want to lose another 9lbs by 31 May. I'm trying to focus on small goals as the reality is I've got a lot to lose :(

thefishwhocouldwish · 12/05/2018 10:28

Dandelion chocegg and turnip great losses so far. I'm coming up to the end of week 2 and 3.1kg down (a whisker away from half a stone).

I'm a primary deputy head and one of the Reception girls asked me if I have a baby in my tummy Sad Shock Blush I wouldn't mind if I was significantly overweight but I can still just get in my size 10s!! I mentioned it to DH on Skype yesterday (he's working overseas) and he more or less agreed with the comment, so I now feel completely deflated and more motivated than ever. Imagine how pregnant I must have looked two weeks ago when I started this!

Oblomov18 · 12/05/2018 11:59

Well done Dandelion, Egg and Turnip!!

veryveryquietly · 12/05/2018 13:00

Was doing fabulously yesterday, but then there was wine at dinner. A lot of wine. Hoo boy. Well, at least in terms of food I stayed around 900 cals and very BSD. (Well, I had a forkful of potato and fennel gratin, which was nice but did not tempt me back into full fledged potato consumption.)

One more week of high stress expected at work and then I can address this plateau and hopefully get a little better at withstanding wine and choc temptations/self-medications.

Headed off to google the Italian Crack Slaw.

Happy weekend all!

PhyllisWig · 12/05/2018 14:02

Still no period (can't imagine how anyone's managed their Saturday without this key update).

Lovely lunch though - not very environmentally friend and expensive for what it is but Asda do single serving smoked haddock portions in microwaveable pouches for 93 cals and less than a gram of carbs. I had that on a bed of spinach with a poached egg on top - lush! Prawn curry for tea.

I also managed a power walk. Knee is still fucked so I couldn't do more but got my heart rate up a little bit.

Snowglobes · 12/05/2018 15:17

Ooh you’ve all been doing so blooming brilliantly! phyllis your update made me laugh! So although Thurs night wasn’t toooo bad. Yesterday was a shocker... prossecco flowing from 11am which continued to 2am this morning!! I’m still drunk! Also ate way too much and lots of rubbish. No way can I possibly put it all in the app. I’ll weigh tomorrow & no doubt will have put a ton on. Great fun though!!! Need to be super strict from now on!

DragonflyInn · 12/05/2018 18:33

This is such an inspiring thread! Well done everyone on your achievements.

So at the end of week 1, weighed myself today and I've lost 10lbs! My goal was to do this for 8 weeks and lose 1.5 stone but I'm considering upping that to 2 stone - it feels very doable. Not that I'm expecting this sort of loss in future weeks!

Turnip - we've started very close to the same time. Will be great to try and help keep each other motivated Smile
