It’s so hard to tell oblomov- salad looks good though!!

I’m so hungry right now I could cry. Dinner is taking forever, the kids are bickering relentlessly, and I could do easily dive into something stodgy and carby! I will not!!

Glad of the warning about a possible heavier period than normal as I'm due in a few days! Feeling emotional and tired BUT haven't had the bad cramps I've had in last few periods. Related or coincidence I wonder.

1lb off this morning which brings me back to pre 'weekend of abandon' weight. Hoping for another lb or 2 this week.

Sympathy to all the constipated. I miss my daily poo. There's a sentence I never thought I'd need! But this poo every two days business just feels weird! Once I hit the maintenance stage I will definitely have some lunchtime carbs to keep things moving.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2018 18:32

Well, I have gone over today, as a result of a momentary peanut butter incident which probably added several hundred calories to my day. I’m just so hungry today, like Phylis I’m also due on, and I just seem to have no off switch once I start.

So it’s around 1200 cals, 45g carbs, 18 k steps (3 k run) - so that’s not really too bad despite being over, but not exactly good enough for strict week!

I definitely notice changes in my cycle and a definite reduction in some pmt symptoms. I do however find I get other ones instead. Insomnia in the week before, and I also find my legs ache more and tire more quickly when I Run plus I get a stitch more often when running in the week before totm., again this might be a coincidence but I have been tracking it over several months now. I retain water too, and still get the insatiable hunger/craving/wanty feeling that never really goes away even if I eat.

Oh oblomov having builders in is always so stressful! Maybe it’s a good thing you can’t find the contents of the dresser or you’d be a few bottles of wine less??
My kitchen is closed at 783 cals, 53 carbs (annoyingly had a handful of blueberries), 12k steps. Not hungry but feel bloated. bear you mentioned staying away from pork, why is that pls? I thought pork was pretty good.
The next 3 days are going to very very bad as away from home with a number of friends for lunches x3; dinner x2, & a spa day with fizz. They’ll be a lot of fizz at each ‘thing’. And no doubt inbetween each ‘thing’! Not too sure how to manage this as wont be able to put all those meals on the app and Ive discovered I’m not a great judge of what would be the fewest calories when choosing items. Plus I don’t want to be a bore when away with mates I’ve not seen for an age! The alcohol will be especially difficult. I’m thinking try to be as BSD as possible with food. Maybe have a few drinks and enjoy. Then start hard on Sunday when I return.

DragonflyInn · 09/05/2018 19:08

Hello. Can I join you please? I'm new to bsd - today is day 5 for me. First couple of days I had bad headaches, days 3 and 4 felt like a doddle (and I was feeling slightly smug!) but I've been feeling really hungry today. I think I really need to join in here and make myself accountable to try and avoid slipping.

Dinner today was halloumi and courgette salad - very tasty but I still feel unsatidfied. Lying in the bath now trying to distract myself!

PhyllisWig · 09/05/2018 19:16

Still no joy period wise but have felt achey as shit so fingers crossed for something overnight. I have no idea if I'm actually late as I don't track them but the pmt is nasty which makes me desperate! Interestingly I notice a major decrease in sore boobs and increased appetite when on plan but worse aches and pains and tiredness.

Also I usually bloat during period not before but given the mystery weight gain at the moment I am hoping that's reversed.

Ironically I've had a really good day plan wise - lots of lovely salad and no hunger. I have had heaps of water today both for lard and poo reasons. Also an extra portion of fruit at breakfast and coffee not tea. Again all about the poo. Easter, I too miss the daily poo Sad

For all I'm not losing I do look smaller. A few people have remarked on it and clothes are much looser.

So to sum up my day, solidarity to my poo and period brethren

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2018 19:20

Welcome dragonfly!

Snow not avoiding pork per se, but avoiding processed meat products, which in our house are largely pork based. Ham, bacon, little sausages etc - we eat a rather startling amount of them. I have really missed them today, it’s made me realise that I must rely on them quite a lot.

It’s come about from thinking about the next few months going forward- I’d like to be 10.6 by Whitsun (which is 2 stone lost, another 4lb to go) and I’d really love to be at target (9.13, 2.5 stones lost) by summer holidays in August. The last few months have been good, but yo-yoing a bit, and I think I need to clean up and tighten up my eating to give myself a boost towards target. I have definitely slipped into bad habits of late- grazing, sneaking bits of food, fridge eating....,and most of these have been pork products!

veryveryquietly · 09/05/2018 19:27

Stressful time at work, so strict Tuesday ended up not as strict. Wed has been a little easier and have mostly been on plan, but have been tetchy all day.

Bleah. Better go eat a decent dinner to fend off this foul mood.

PrimalLass · 09/05/2018 22:23

Me too, but stressful Wednesday meant I had nothing until dinner then too much 🙄

Snowglobes · 09/05/2018 22:57

Ah that makes a lot of sense bear. I tend to only eat pork loin (as I did today) but my DH and kids eat a lot of sausage and bacon and ham and chorizo.... despite my warnings! I never buy it in but DH just goes to the butchers or a deli 🙄
So your starting weight is very similar to mine (12.3) - so just 3lb less than yours. I’d like to loose at least 2 stone. I’m just wondering how long it’s taken for you pls? It’ll take me longer as I’m so not a runner.
Hello dragonfly I’m finding it tricky to feel full but I think it’s sbout having a decent amount of fat yet staying within your calories. A couple of walnuts chopped up into a salad seems to help me.

PutTheChocEggDown · 09/05/2018 23:18

Today was easier than yesterday. Scrapped the sweet potato fries and had some yogurt instead. It was sugary as well as fatty but really filling and felt like a great treat. No hunger afterwards.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/05/2018 06:59

Snowglobes I was 12.6 starting and that was 1st January. I had a slow start because this wasn’t my first round so it’s just been a steady loss throughout really, without the initial loss. I’d done it before starting at 13.3 and lost 21lb in the 8 weeks.
To be honest, the running is a double edged sword- it’s changed my body shape and it keeps my head focussed, but as a result I have to eat more calories and some days I am so incredibly hungry because i’m in such deficit. I’ve had to really work hard to find a happy medium as I’m completely new to exercising so it’s been a total learning curve for me. I’m hoping it will become the main part of my plan for maintenance though.

Hello all, can I pick your brains? I tend to avoid the BSD cake / dessert recipes as I find it easier to cut stuff out altogether and anything sweet is too big a temptation for me. But we have friends coming this weekend and I'd like to have some 'treat' things to offer that won't derail me completely if we indulge.

Can anyone recommend recipes that they have tried and that really work? The pear and brazil nut brownies look nice. I've got both BSD books. Our friends are trying to lose weight too so I know they won't mind if we keep roughly to the plan.

Thanks!

PrimalLass · 10/05/2018 10:40

What about simple berries and cream? You could have meringue too but skip that bit.

Snowglobes · 10/05/2018 11:02

I’ve nit made any of the sweet recipes either as like you can do without the temptation! I agree with Primal a big bowl of lovely berries with creme fraiche on the side. I’m pretty sure creme fraiche will be lower cals than cream. The weather is nice enough too! It’ll be harder when the weather calls for a crumble and custard! Enjoy!!

PutTheChocEggDown · 10/05/2018 11:04

I'll have a look later for recipes for puds for you. Just popping on to say I have lost 0.25lbs since yesterday. Yes, a whole quarter pound! I hope the big greedy weekend hasn't killed my weight loss. So I'm below this time last week but I've basically cost myself half a week to undo the damage.

veryveryquietly · 10/05/2018 11:51

I third the suggestion of berries and cream, or creme fraiche - if you wanted to go overboard, you could also put out a bowl of grated dark chocolate and another of some chopped, toasted almonds or hazelnuts or pecans or such. So, basically, like 'make your own ice cream sundaes' (which are always a big hit), but with a BSD friendlier base.

veryveryquietly · 10/05/2018 11:59

Hope your day got better Primal and all - I ended up having a healthy dinner but extra dessert (ricotta and cherries though, so reasonable) and then going to bed early.

Scale has been wobbling the past few weeks. Was down, then went up and down the same 2 lbs for a while (delayed result of stressful overeating weekend?), and now going down again. It's interesting to use the MFP reports to see the days when my caloric intake spikes.

Thankfully should be able to make it to the gym tomorrow, and will try to work off some frustration there. It's either that or I get an upper-body workout by throwing desk supplies at co-workers. Co-workers don't deserve my ire so much as big bosses, but sadly I can't throw very far :) and I don't think throwing things counts as fat-burning exercise.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/05/2018 14:23

I’ve made the Jamie Oliver chocolate mousse before without any sugar and it’s delicious, but obviously still not technically BSD friendly. It’s just eggs, cream, chocolate. Whip the cream, melt the choc, separate the eggs and mix the yolks into the cream, add the chocolate, and fold in whipped egg whites then leave to set. You can measure it out into little pots/ramekins which are easier to calorie count.

OP posts:
LittlePearl · 10/05/2018 14:37

Thank you all for the suggestions.

The idea of berries and cream with a few additional toppings sounds great, and I might try the mousse recipe for our second meal together.

In theory, I'd like to think it would be possible to have the normal range of treats (crisps, cake, puds etc) just for the weekend, then back on the wagon on Monday - but I'm an all or nothing kind of gal and once I fall off I'm usually off for days, sadly. Really want to give myself a good chance of success this time and I'm properly in the zone at the moment.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/05/2018 14:50

Little as a rule my strategy for any gathering type is to make the majority of the food BSD compatible, with add-ons that aren’t. I tend to find if I’ve got really delicious things that I can have, the rest doesn’t even bother me and no one notices that I’m not eating it all. I’d probably set some boundary on myself such as not calorie counting but provided I only eat the ‘allowed’ foods. So for a buffet lunch/picnic I’d do ham, chicken, nice dips, hummus, lovely salad- and then a couple of shop bought cous cous or potato salad and a few breads for the others. Same with dessert- make the gorgeous juicy berries and whipped cream the ‘main’ pudding, and then get some frozen offering as an additional. In my experience of these things, my plate is often always the most colourful and I don’t feel deprived. It’s if I can’t have large parts of the ‘main dish’ that it feels I should stray from the plan.

At my bil’s the other day they did us sandwiches so my lunch was a very measly slice of chicken, carrot batons, a baby bel and some leaves with no dressing, while they all had delicious baguettes. I did feel deprived then!!

LittlePearl · 10/05/2018 16:53

It's often the leftovers that are my downfall...... hoovering up bread, salty snacks, cake etc once everyone's gone home.

Our guests this weekend are real foodies and our get-togethers have usually revolved around fabulous feasts and plenty to drink. But fortunately they discovered the BSD at about the same time as us a few months ago and although DH and I have had a bit of trouble really sticking to it until recently, the man in the couple has lost loads of weight and is really into it. And his wife is happy to do it when she's at home but she travels alot with work so finds it harder to stick to.

I know they won't mind if we reign it in this weekend compared to our usual blow-outs, but it's nice to have a few things as treats as we don't see one another that often. Last time they came they introduced us to the cod with braised lettuce and peas recipe which is now a firm favourite.....so perhaps I should have just asked them for suggestions for sweet recipes!

LittlePearl · 10/05/2018 17:19

Bear is the JO mousse recipe just his basic chocolate mousse recipe but with the sugar left out?

Oblomov18 · 10/05/2018 17:59

I agree. I've actually never made any of the deserts. So can't help, I'm afraid.

But if you just had all the stuff and plus meringues, then they can all have Eton mess/sundaes and no one will even notice that you haven't eaten any 'bad bits'.

I am doing very well today, just about to have gammon, runner beans, French beans, asparagus.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/05/2018 18:15

Surely they won’t want the non BSD stuff either though, and will probably just eat it to be polite? Why not save yourselves the hassle and just do BSD stuff, no leftovers to tempt you either! They’ll probably be grateful that it won’t be a weekend off plan especially if they’re doing it seriously. I wish more of my friends and family knew the BSD way!!

(The JO mousse is his recipe from the 30 minutes book minus the sugar and brandy)
