Welcome fish, that sounds like a great start!

Phyllis that sounds frustrating. Was it you who we were talking about plateaus with? I think the very nature of the plateau is that they occur for no rhyme or reason, so I suppose the only advice is to keep doing what you’re doing and it will show. Things are obviously happening beneath the surface that you can’t see- have you done your measurements?

primalass and phyllis sounds like me!! It’s frustrating isn’t it? But I’m still hopeful!
Well done bear seems like you e found a great maintaining strategy. And what a great first week for you Fish. I too, am going to plan my next few days today. Wondering if I should go lower than 800 if next weekend is going to be party, party, party??? What dyou think?

SquareEyedSqu1d · 07/05/2018 09:40

Just checking in as I haven't posted in a while. This is the first day of Week 5 for me and I've lost a stone! Yippee!!!

I've found it really easy to stick to and my only cheats in all this time have been 3 squares of dark 75% cocoa chocolate, a stamp-sized piece of toast and a sliver piece of birthday cake.

I can't believe I've done it, reallly. DH has lost a stone and a half (but is a lot more active than me) and his high blood pressure had lowered significantly. He needs to see the doctor about stopping his medication!

So, hang in there, folks. I did have a plateau when I was trying to do 16:8 and then not having breakfast as I was busy and felt it was too much food at midday, but since I've started eating breakfast in the early morning again, the loss has continued.

Another 4 weeks to go, then a week's holiday, then another 8 week stint...

veryveryquietly · 07/05/2018 10:04

Hi squid and CONGRATS that's terrific!

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 10:07

Oh well done! I'd love to lose a stone and can cope with it taking 5 weeks as long as I start losing again.

DandelionAndBedrock · 07/05/2018 10:26

Well done Squid!
I’m just starting week 4 and down another 3.5lbs from last week.

I’ve tried his approach of having a brunch and a dinner at the weekend instead of 3 meals, and I don’t think it works as well for me. I don’t feel hungry during the day but I feel more bloated after the evening meal.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 10:30

I'm going back to my week 1 strategy of eggs, some sort of salad, then fish/meat plus salad. Going to bbq tonight so that sounds easy enough but I know I'll end up pouring a drink.

Fish curry the next couple of days as that worked so well.

PutTheChocEggDown · 07/05/2018 13:21

Been fasting since 4.30 yesterday. Going to wait till 2 or 3 to eat. Trying to reset the appetite after all the weekend eating. I need to start planning my food in MFP.

There's an interesting thread in chat about The Dirty Diet / Clever Guts diets. All about probiotic and prebiotic foods. Might have a look for some tips!

PhyllisWig · 07/05/2018 13:27

Bear yes it was me. I know they happen but the last few days have been powered by will power rather than my normal 'not feeling hungry' which is always a bit harder - thank you pmt. I did measure this morning and my waist is down by an inch since last measure so other things are happening.

I do think I do better with breakfast actually, even if it's just a boiled egg. I pick at stuff if I go too long without food so I might try that next week. Also water. I am slack if I dont focus.

Well done on that stone :)

Oblomov18 · 07/05/2018 13:28

Glad your friends noticed Snow.

Bear, I didn't realise that about fever tree tonics. AngryI've drunk about 10 fever tree tonics in all my g&t's this weekend at ds1's football tournament. Blush

I need to re-examine my attitude. I either do very well at 700-800. Or blow it all at 2000-3000 calories - wine, crisps, chocolate. I need to find my middle ground. 2 extremes, no balance. This is essential for me.

I intend to think about this, over the next few days.

I'm totally in, for harsh Tuesday.
Who is on the list?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2018 13:48

I know oblomov it really surprised me . I only looked at the label because I drank some without gin to use up the dregs and was surprised how sweet it was, otherwise I would have blissfully continued!

I am definitely up for totally strict Tuesday, it’s rather too easy to go mad especially when it feels like a holiday. I don’t really ever do 800 calories as it’s just not sustainable for me and I end up going the other way, so I will do under 1000, but I’m going to really focus on getting the carbs down (maybe aim for under 30g?) I hope this might help to a) kickstart a few pounds off, and b) make me reconsider some of my choices and choose lower carb even on allowed foods.

This is my fifth month now and while I’m happy with my loss so far, I am becoming aware of the little corners I’m cutting. My big culprits are: sweetener in coffee and also drinking so many coffees each day, turning a blind eye to my milk usage (see coffees above!), and an over reliance on processed meat products (pork particularly)- this week I am going to plan my meals to include tinned fish, eggs and chicken in salads, and really try to substitute at least a few of my coffees for water or herbal tea. Maybe just planning to be a bit ‘cleaner’ in my food choices?

I say this about my coffee drinking quite regularly but never quite manage it so we’ll see what happens this week! I am the queen of promises....

Reporting for duty Oblimov! The 22hr fast has helped. I actually think bread and I will not be able to have a healthy relationship for a long time! I don't eat it that often but when I do it's like crack. When I break my fast the food for the day will be eggs, cheese, nuts and veg.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 13:59

I'll do harsh Tuesday.

Have a work phone call in the morning and Brownies at night. I must try and have dinner before Brownies so that I don't come home starving.

But tonight is bbq and a g&t in the garden. I'm in Scotland and it's not like we get the change often.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 14:01

I ignore my milk too. I do put about 1 cups worth into MFP, but still discount it really. I did with 5:2 as well.

PutTheChocEggDown · 07/05/2018 17:33

Managed a 24hr fast in the end and just had dinner. Cauliflower cheese bakes and aubergine curry. It was lush! Still have 80 cals left so might have some nuts or similar later.

veryveryquietly · 07/05/2018 17:34

In for a harsh Tuesday too, oblomov. A little too relaxed yesterday, though today is mostly back on track.

veryveryquietly · 07/05/2018 18:06

Closing the kitchen (yeah, early, but I got up early) on 864 cals and 41 gr carbs. Having cherries and ricotta for dessert - so good.

Some days I think I could eat all 850 cals in cherries and blueberries... MFP says that 850 cals worth of blueberries, at 57 cal per 100 g, equals 1491 grams of blueberries... oh yeah, I could do it. Wouldn't be pretty though!

PhyllisWig · 07/05/2018 19:04

I just had strawberries and ricotta. Lush it was.

Not too bad a day but caught myself picking - bit of cheese when I did the packed lunches, half a teaspoon of ice cream when dishing up the kids' pud. I am a dreadful picker so this has to stop.

Am v v v tired so going to bed in a sec. probably about 950 cals with all these little bits whereas should have been 850Hmm

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2018 19:08

I’m closing the kitchen on .... not sure, but a shake, 2 meals of salads, a stolen sausage, a glass of wine, and a 1cm wide slice of vanilla ice cream from one of those old skool ice cream blocks, made into a cola-float with Pepsi Max (purely for educational purposes as the dc didn’t believe me how amazing they are!)

All balanced out with 20k steps including a 10.5k run. Gallons of water. Plus, the boost in my mood after this glorious weekend, I feel like I’ve been on holiday! If I maintain this weekend it will be a miracle, but I don’t think I’ll have gained too much, and I’m totally up for a strict few days.

I’m planning a shake breakfast, salad /protein dinner combination this week.

PutTheChocEggDown · 07/05/2018 19:48

Has anyone tried anything nice with Quark? I was thinking quark, choc shot and raspberries mixed up. Would this be good or horrible? Have 82 cals to burn! Alternative is some soy cream with fruit.

PhyllisWig · 07/05/2018 20:12

That's between me and my god ChocEgg Wink

I think that might work similar to ricotta. I very occasionally use it in mackerel pate and it's nice.

Snowglobes · 07/05/2018 22:20

Confessional - my DD made chicken nuggets... they smelled amazing! I are two!! TWO!!!
I’m drinking a lot of diet lemonade instead of wine/G&T - is that okay?
Also, does your weight fluctuate between morning and eve? I weighed 75.7kg this am but tonight weigh 77kg!!

PrimalLass · 08/05/2018 00:13

I'm normally 2lb more in the evening.

Snowglobes · 08/05/2018 06:41

I’m back to 75.7kg this am. (11st 12lbs). Started at 12st 3lb over 2 weeks ago but lost zero in first week. At least it’s starting to come off now. So around 5lbs in total.
Really, really, really must plan my meals and check calories first. There’s been too many surprises when I eat and then add to the app. albeit I’m staying within 800-1000. I think I should do the exercises in his book too. Do any of you do those?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/05/2018 07:41

Good morning everyone. Small gain after the bank holiday of around 1.5lb, so I’m now 10.11.4. Really not unhappy with that at all as I have eaten a lot, drunk alcohol and generally sinned. I have had a couple of banned foods too!! So I don’t really deserve it but I’m going to take it! It’s all been offset by exercise though, I have run about 30k over the weekend too so I guess that’s why!

This week- back to basics, clean eating, 800 -1000 cals. I have a busy Saturday ahead with a tea party and a night out, but otherwise no reason why I can’t be 100% on plan this week. I’m taking 2 rest days from running to give my muscles a break and will do 30 day shred tomorrow (total rest today).

I never weigh at night so couldn’t say exactly, but it stands to reason you’d weigh more later on as the weight of your food etc will show. I weigh absolutely first thing or not at all, except I did once weigh after running as well just to see and I was 2lb lighter than before running. (Combination if stored glycogen being used, and water, and sweat!)
I appreciate the daily weighing, but I personally find I get a bit hung up on it and try not to weigh daily, especially if I’m doing well and following the plan properly, as I try try to trust the plan over the scales!!
