NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Ooh sounds interesting. There will be 7 of us ranging from teens to grannies - do you just turn up if it’s like box park?

We’re going to go to mercato matropolitano which is street food hall and bars! 13 mins from theatre

Ooh yes, DC went there during ITW and loved it!

Biscuitsneeded · 13/08/2024 07:56

There are three 5* reviews on Twitter for Into the Woods. Not surprised.

Morning! Good luck to everyone in Cat for opening night!!!! We have a patchwork of friends and family going over the performances but we don’t get to see her until Saturday!!!

Does anyone know if there will be pictures taken and if we’re able to buy them please?

Biscuitsneeded · 15/08/2024 11:27

Break a leg to Catastrophe Bay!

There will be pictures and usually they are posted on the FB group and you download any you want. You just have to credit the photographer if you reuse them on social media.

Also - how lovely for Our House that Mike Jibson and Suggs visited rehearsals!

Hope Catastrophe Bay has gone well. Have seen some of the photos on FB and it looks sensational. We are away on holiday otherwise we would have watched.

Biscuitsneeded · 18/08/2024 11:09

Many congratulations to the Catastrophe Bay company! What a show! Nice to meet some CB parents too. Hope all your DC are sleeping in late today.

Looking forward very much to Our House now...

CatBay was incredible!!! DD shattered and tearful! Such an amazing experience for them! And what an awesome pastoral team!!! Break a leg Our House! I hear Suggs is coming to see it!!!

Comefromaway · 18/08/2024 13:46

Sounds like Cat Bay was a great success.

Grumblema · 18/08/2024 18:34

Well 'Wonderland in Alice' was amazing and unique. We actually watched it a second time because we were so impressed with it. The cast were brilliant, and the show itself innovative, exciting, and thought-provoking. We were more than impressed.

allhailthebrain · 20/08/2024 11:04

Well done to all who have had their NYMT and BYMT shows so far!

Mine was in Cat Bay and it was a lovely show with fabulous folk music. Still waiting on photos! Were ITW provided with them all as in the past…?

sad to hear some of you were there and I missed you!!

now heading off on holiday - someone said above there had been no news on the Christmas concert but the dates have definitely come out, with rehearsals earlier on the same day so check emails you previously received- it’s way better thought out this time, which I told Chris we really appreciated!

Biscuitsneeded · 20/08/2024 21:56

Well done to all who have performed so far.

Thank you @allhailthebrain for the update about the Christmas concert. As usual it doesn't occur to my adult DS that I might want to know when the concert is!! I will try to ask him next time I can pin him down...

Break a leg to all those who have yet to perform.

lol @Biscuitsneeded I had the same realisation! First year for me not in control.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/08/2024 12:59

Break a leg to the Our House company. I'm glad it's cooled down a bit for them as it's such a high energy show!

Congratulations to all the cast and band of The Power of Camelot for a fabulous opening night in Exeter yesterday! Completely blown away by the amazing new production and the extremely talented cast and band! If anyone’s holidaying in the South West, it’s definitely worth a trip to watch the shows today.

CatatonicLadybug · 24/08/2024 11:46

DS and I went to Our House last night - please pass on a huge round of applause if any cast/band/crew parents see this.

Really well cast and performed. Particularly impressive choreography for such a small stage space! No small feat that there weren’t collisions and I’m guessing rehearsal must have had its fair share of bumps and bruises.

And a well earned world record for the crazy number and speed of the quick changes. So well done on top of everything else.

Thanks everyone who encouraged me to go ahead and take DS. He was very pleased and loves the idea now, and said himself it is nice to know there is something he could do once he’s too old for the child roles, so mission accomplished!

Operasingerkath · 24/08/2024 12:44

Huge congratulations to everyone involved in Our House. We went yesterday afternoon (in good company - Matt Lucas and Suggs both in the audience!). It was a perfectly cast show, with everyone absolutely giving it their all. The energy was off the scale. We tied this trip in with a couple of other things this week - DS did a summer school at Emil Dale, and we used Kids Week for the last time to see a few other shows. The cast of Our House could give one particular cast of professionals a big lesson in stagecraft and energy, so a massive well done to them all. It was also really lovely seeing DS meet up with some of his friends from last year- such a gorgeous bunch of talented people!

Glad to hear you both enjoyed Our House, and it's nice to know your DS felt he would like to be involved. I've been lucky enough to watch all three Playhouse shows this summer - all excellent in very different ways - and it was so clear what a wonderful time the company were having, onstage and offstage.
I think as the DC enter the teens, it's not just about finding opportunities to perform at a high level (although NYMT definitely ticks that box), but also about finding one's tribe in the maelstrom of being a teenager, and trying to tread the path between being yourself and 'fitting in'. As the mum of a boy whose teenage years were made so much less miserable than they could have been by the sheer joy and relief of being accepted and valued at NYMT, I can't emphasise enough how special it is when you watch those young people. They are of course supremely talented and can be justly proud of the shows, but as an audience member you can feel the infectious joy in performing together and making solid friendships that endure. It's been really special seeing cast members from other shows or past shows coming to support each other.

Enough sentiment - I've clearly got vicarious post-show blues - looking forward to Crescendo next weekend!

"The cast of Our House could give one particular cast of professionals a big lesson in stagecraft and energy". Hmmm I Have on occasion thought that too. Think I know which show you mean!

I've just listened to NYMT's Chris Cuming and the young actor who played Joe Casey in Our House on BBC Radio London, talking about achieving the world record for the number of costume changes within one show! If anyone wants to have a listen it's here, at about 14.50pm just after Tina Turner's 'We don't need another Hero'. Lovely to hear the young performer speak so highly of NYMT and everything it has meant to him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_london
