NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Thanks for the custard creams everyone! I’m tucking right in…! Out of interest what BYMT shows have the May workshops? And what are the dates?

yodaforpresident · 03/04/2024 20:02

@Mumster40 the Welcome to Serene workshop is 29-31 May.

Biscuitsneeded · 03/04/2024 22:55

I hope all NYMT participants new and old who are on their residential currently are having the best time.

@Mumster40 We didn't close the biscuit tin, so keep snacking. I really hope good news will arrive for your DC.

Any NYMT musicians waiting for an invoice or payment details? Accepted place on the link and note deposit is due today but no invoice or payment details have arrived.

I’ve emailed but no response but guess everyone is busy in rehearsals!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 05/04/2024 21:47

Ours came through the day after we accepted - Chris will be at Sevenoaks this week so I expect you'll hear back once Easter residentials are done.

Thanks, all sorted, Chris got back to me this evening and sent invoice!

@Mumster40 thank you! She has been offered a place on Welcome to Serene. That sounds like a good shout - I'm pretty sure there is movement till as late as June so plenty of time still. Great that there are other opportunities to absorb energies! x

NYMT crew hope all goes swimmingly for the Easter rehearsals!

Hi again, well done on her offer! My DD (16) is doing Serene too, and hoping to find more cast that will be getting the train from Liverpool St station on the Wed end of May. Looks like it will be a great show.
How old is your DD?

wonderfullife123 · 07/04/2024 16:54

@Belshels thank you, she's so excited and it does look like a great show! My DD is 15. We will drive her over as the trains aren't great from here. It's new for her as the show she did last year didn't have a May workshop so not sure what to expect, but she's looking forward to have the chance to meet everyone before the summer. Hoping that they'll set up a FB group as they did last year to help transport arrangements and allow your DD to connect with others travelling the same route by train. They somehow managed to get a snapchat or WA group going well before the project last time as well if I remember correctly.

I’m going to restrict commenting on this thread now, especially on anything BYMT related as it won’t be appropriate for me to do so moving forward due to Ds progressing.

I may still answer anything NYMT related if it’s something I have experience of.

yodaforpresident · 11/04/2024 13:51

Hi @belshels we will be driving up to Ipswich as we’re south of London and easier for us.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/04/2024 18:44

Just to say that the NYMT show tickets are on sale! If you have a DC involved you probably knew this already, but just to flag. They seem to be selling very well.

Any tips on seating @Biscuitsneeded

Biscuitsneeded · 16/04/2024 20:04

Hmmmm not really! I only went there once last summer to watch Merrily. I was on the side at the top and it probably wasn't the best view in the house but it was fine. I imagine downstairs might be more comfortable but it's all very new so you'd hope there are no awful seats. I do remember the very back row upstairs was more like high bar stools than seats!

Hi @OMITN
So delighted to hear about your DD. My DD also got a place in When we Strike. It was also her first time auditioning she is only 11 turning 12 in July. She is so looking forward to it.. me on the otherhand I'm quite nervous 🫣.We are from Ireland so I am not sure how this works either but I am getting great comfort from this thread. The overall consensus is they have a great time doing what they love. What age is your daughter?

Hi @DaisyDay007

I’m so sorry to have missed this. Mumsnet isn’t one of my usual online haunts, so I failed to check back (even though the tab has been open on my phone since I first posted!).

That’s awesome news for your daughter. Congratulations..!

Will you fly in and drop off and then back for the shows or are you planning to hang out in London for the fortnight? Ironically it’s probably faster for you to get there than us from NW England 😂

Our daughter is 13. She will actually be 14 on day 1 of the rehearsals (though not sure if she’ll tell anyone…).

Hi @OMITN
Sorry for the late reply. Yes I am flying over and staying nearby for the two weeks. She's still quite young although she is very independent. I doubt I will even hear from her for the duration of her stay.. I am wondering if they get 'time off' or allocated times for family visits at the weekend?

Lifeofastagemum · 13/05/2024 20:03

Has anyone been cast for Wonderland in Alice with BYMT?

Cherylf123 · 14/05/2024 07:17

Hi, I've only just seen some of these, messages. My DD did her first BYMT project last year. I didn't stay close by, she was in London and we are NW based. I barely heard from her to he honest, think she may have called me twice (once was possibly to ask for money to be transferred to her account). She had an absolutely amazing time. They did have a day off but I didn't go and collect her, there were plenty that didn't get picked up and I think they all went to the cinema and a shopping centre if I remember right.

DaisyDay007 · 14/05/2024 11:26

Thanks for your reply@Cherylf123 that's good to know.. its hard to know what to do. I think for peace of mind I'm staying close by but I doubt very much she will need me. She is so looking forward to it, and I'm excited for her too. 😁

OMITN · 21/05/2024 12:19

And I see that BYMT show tickets for When We Strike have just gone on sale. Now for the hassle coordinating families….

MxPickles · 21/05/2024 17:18

Did anyone self tape for the BYMT Gala concert? Wondering when we will hear takes seat in waiting room and cracks open biscuit tin

Mcmumager · 21/05/2024 18:14

Good luck @MxPickles and anyone else auditioning. It sounds fab- my ds was planning to but then realised it clashes with his college show.

Yes my DD sent a self tape. Hoping we hear very soon, by the end of the week maybe?

allhailthebrain · 22/05/2024 00:17

Ooh waiting room in action again? I'll throw in some custard creams!

Is there anyone also still hoping for a place from the BYMT reserve list? seem to remember there was a hopeful or two, been thinking of them!

Needanadultgapyear · 22/05/2024 00:31

@DaisyDay007 DD did two BYMT projects in the two week project they got one day off and as they were in Huddersfield the chaps took them by coach to the Trafford Centre for the day where they could choose between Cinema or bowling.
She also did a three week project, but that was during Covid so they were a closed cast they had two days off, but they were staying at a boarding school with a pool so they got to swim and relax on their days off.
DD is very independent, but does phone regularly.

Mumster40 · 22/05/2024 09:49

Well, I’ve eaten all the biscuits waiting for a last minute BYMT offer to no avail….Luckily, DC has some other performance opportunities lined up and I’ve booked a couple of breaks that will take them out of the running for the summer shows now. Feeling alright about it all but DC has decided not to audition for BYMT next year as going through 5 rounds of casting over 5 months was just too stressful. It would’ve been easier to get a no in January! I hope everyone’s DC have an incredible time this summer! I’m hoping to come and support a show or two. See you in the waiting room for NYMT in January x
