Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

Thank you @yodaforpresident that's helpful to know

Quitelikeacatslife · 21/03/2023 23:25

Can honestly say BYMT changed my DS eating habits, in a good way. He went there being the usual picky eater, wouldn't eat salad, picked onions out of things , nothing spicy etc . Then he said he just decided he was going to eat everything there how it was presented no messing and he has kept to it! Brilliant , shovels down what he is given (need to work on DD now, different ball game)

Someone had to drop out last year very last minute do a couple of solos etc had to be re-allocated which probably didn’t help.

Yes! DS discovered the night before that he had an earlier start ( we were driving so it was absolutely fine)

Triflefan · 22/03/2023 08:22

Re food
I think for the majority, it’s fine. It’s canteen food. There’s plenty there, they’ll just be looking forward to some home cooking afterwards.
Sevenoaks was better than Tonbridge according to DS.
He mentioned one good meal last year at Tonbridge and had high hopes but then the chef changed or something and it wasn’t so great but still fine.

Just be very clear re allergies and dietary requirements.

We stayed at a Premier Inn nearby so when my ds found out about the changes so it was OK for him to be there early. (He'd planned on getting there earlier anyway to set up his keyboard etc as he was also providing some computer equipment for the other keyboard player.)

Poking a BYMT head up again, has anyone on the reserve list heard anything yet? Trying to work out whether it's not yet or not likely 🤣

I know a PP said upthread that the deadline to accept an offer from the first round was last Friday, would they usually be quick to juggle the reserve list and make offers or does it take longer?

I emailed them last week. Second round offers are going out this week, and if you dont hear anything this week the final stage of offers and the waiting list closure is at the end of April.

wonderfullife123 · 22/03/2023 14:13

Super helpful @MxPickles - think I'll draw a line for DD1 after the end of this week as there's something else she's keen on so will book that over Easter if she isn't successful in 2nd round.

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 22/03/2023 17:18

Thank you @MxPickles.@wonderfullife123 we drew a line yesterday; DH had had enough of not being able to plan the summer, and it feels as though if she's not in yet, she won't be.

@yodaforpresident well done to your DC!

wonderfullife123 · 22/03/2023 17:34

Think that's a good call @NotEvenSlightlyReasonable - summer plans are important! I was just holding out a little longer because DD was so keen to do it. But after Friday will definitely get planning and moving forward with other stuff. And well done @yodaforpresident DC - that is the same show as my other DD is doing.

allhailthebrain · 22/03/2023 23:13

It's so frustrating, not being able to make summer plans for so long! Totally empathise...

yodaforpresident · 23/03/2023 11:25

@wonderfullife123 @MxPickles the offer email said that acceptances had to be back by Monday 3rd April so I think they are trying to move quickly if you can wait a little longer. @wonderfullife123 we are quite far from Dundee so I have just booked the sleeper train from Euston so will now be there ridiculously early.

yodaforpresident · 23/03/2023 11:30

@NotEvenSlightlyReasonable I had not appreciated when DD auditioned how long the process would be. I totally understand how hard it is to plan around it.

wonderfullife123 · 23/03/2023 11:35

Thanks @yodaforpresident I'll see what DD thinks - seems like chances are quite slim at this point. We are also miles from Dundee.....

Wonder how they decide which child should do which show? My DD is doing angry salmon which is a fair distance for us. I will be booking to travel the day before and stay over.

wonderfullife123 · 23/03/2023 16:03

@Cherylf123 - not sure, presumably location is not factored in? Will definitely need to go the day before as well.

allhailthebrain · 23/03/2023 17:15

@Cherylf123 this fascinated me last year! They specifically wanted and advertised for northern kids of my kid's age - we live way up north. They offered a show in somewhere like Plymouth, I forget the details!
I was fairly baffled. Then when we turned it down due to a clash, they came back and offered Educating Yorkshire, telling me what an amazing fit it was - well yes, I agree, but then why did you not connect the dots before...? And by then we had another clash so couldn't do it lol

Cherylf123 · 23/03/2023 17:53

They must have their reasons, I was just intrigued. DD is over the moon that she is going to London, Plymouth would have been a struggle.

Biscuitsneeded · 23/03/2023 22:30

I've bought my tickets for the last night of Armchair. Exciting! On a less exciting note, the clutch has gone on my 12 year old car, so the money I had earmarked for NYMT will be buying a new clutch instead. DS had better earn decently for the next couple of weeks!

Alakazam8 · 24/03/2023 08:29

Really considering a short break in Leicester! Does anybody know it and what else there is to do, as well as Armchair of course!!

allhailthebrain · 24/03/2023 09:37

@Alakazam8 i don’t know it well but went to uni half an hour away so have decided to have a few days there myself. Booked a little apartment cheaply for me and my daughter where my mum can join us and then my husband. I’ll probably take her to the space centre, visit some friends etc

Biscuitsneeded · 24/03/2023 10:48

Leicester isn't beautiful, but there are things to do! There's the Richard III museum on the site where they dug him up, which is really interesting. And the Space Centre. Not too far away is Rutland which is a pretty area. I'm not sure it's the kind of place you'd want to stay several days but you should be able to occupy yourselves for a day or two and of course see the show too!

Wetellyourstory · 24/03/2023 11:13

Re places to visit around Leicester - to second the comments above, city centre not great. Bradgate Park worth going to (lovely walks /tea rooms etc in the area) plus Richard III museum, Space Centre and Rutland Water.

Alakazam8 · 24/03/2023 11:24

Thanks literally would be just a couple of days, if we can fit it in, so the Space Centre and the park, maybe Rutland Water sound just the thing!

wonderfullife123 · 24/03/2023 11:48

In addition to other suggestions, Ninja warrior at Leicester is popular, and also the Aqua Park at Rutland water which is usually open from May. @Biscuitsneeded cars do seem to have an uncanny knack of needing repairs when least wanted.

Comefromaway · 24/03/2023 11:56

Last year Billy Elliot was on in the Main house at the Curve so we went to watch that.
