Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

Back in waiting room as well- please pass the biscuits (gin!)

sleepisoverrated1 · 18/02/2023 21:07

Recalls done, now we wait! DS didn't say a lot - I think he's shattered - but he says he had a really fun day and is happy with how it went. Now we wait! Good luck to those auditioning tomorrow, hope they have a fun day!

Mcmumager · 19/02/2023 00:32

Ds really enjoyed the day. They were told they’d get some news early next week so keeping everything crossed!

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 00:47

Glad to hear people enjoyed their recall sessions. I think hoping to hear early this week is a bit optimistic, but if we're back to the old routine then I would hope they would have news by the end of the week..Fingers crossed for everyone.

Mcmumager · 19/02/2023 00:52

@Biscuitsneeded we are off on holiday tomorrow and know it’ll be a constant “have you heard anything yet “😂😂.

Is your ds auditioning tomorrow?

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 01:16

@Mcmumager yes! Glad your DS enjoyed it today.

Yes, DS said a similar thing; we'll hear in the the next few days but should call if we've not heard either way jn 2 weeks. The former is infinitely preferable but I imagine the latter will be more realistic!

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 08:22

I don't think it will be two weeks, I really don't. Unless they hit a major problem (eg two shows want the same lead and they have to negotiate and then recast accordingly, with an impact on other casting) I think we will know by the end of this week.

Anyway, BREAK A LEG to all the DC going today! Have fun! xx

Alakazam8 · 19/02/2023 09:57

It must be very unusual for two different shows to want the same lead so let’s hope we hear this week!!

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 11:04

@Alakazam8 I think it has been known! How did your DD get on yesterday? I hope she enjoyed it.

Montimom · 19/02/2023 11:55

Happy to say that my 3 all hugely enjoyed their NYMT recalls yesterday!! It was so lovely to watch them reuniting with old friends and making new friends too!! Of course all fingers and toes crossed for positive outcomes but either way the whole NYMT audition process is such a positive experience ❤️ good luck to everyone auditioning today

Alakazam8 · 19/02/2023 13:39

@montimom, great to hear your 3 dd’s all enjoyed it! It’s lovely to go back and see people dd knows and see so many other kids in little groups getting together again!
@Biscuitsneeded thanks Dd did enjoy it, especially the dance she says. She always seems to enjoy dance more even though it isn’t her strength at all!
plenty to distract today, an orchestra zoom call this morning and a festival this afternoon. What a weekend!

Jamsanmum · 19/02/2023 16:54

Agree with @Montimom always such a positive experience and to see so many friends is a treat. Fingers crossed for a quick end to the waiting!!!!!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 17:03

@Montimom That's great that all 3 DDs were happy. Must be so difficult to manage the process for 3 equally talented but different individuals, but at least they all feel they showed their best selves and enjoyed it.
@Alakazam8 Also glad to hear your DD enjoyed it yesterday. It's strange how sometimes they enjoy the bits you thought wouldn't go well. Sometimes though if you know you're not the strongest dancer, you can kind of relax into it and accept that you won't be cast in a high-dance role but you may as well enjoy the session and shed a few nerves physically.
DS is there now. He didn't seem too nervous when he left this morning but I bet the nerves kicked in when he got there. Luckily the nerves are offset by the pleasure of seeing some friends from previous shows!
Fingers crossed for everyone...

MxPickles · 19/02/2023 20:35

Hi all, meant to pop on yesterday to wish all the DC who had recalls this weekend good luck but kept getting sidetracked by DD and friends having a sleepover (i.e causing chaos!)

Fingers crossed the wait isn't too long now and that your nerves are all holding out OK.

Hoping for good news soon!

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2023 22:23

@MxPickles thank you, that's kind.

DS is back and he had fun. He said there were a LOT of people and he doesn't envy them casting it, but he was very happy to be there.

Good luck with the waiting, everyone. Did you all see the tweet saying that Armchair is cast?!

Alakazam8 · 20/02/2023 08:20

With there being so many kids there at at least a few of the recalls, there must be quite a lot who won’t be cast this time, even though some of the casts are big this time. After the armchair tweet there are other tweets explaining not to be disappointed if not cast this time…

Biscuitsneeded · 20/02/2023 09:33

@Alakazam8 I think that is likely, I'm afraid. But it was ever thus. I think this board sometimes gives the impression that almost everyone gets recalled and most of those recalled get a place in the company, but it's not true. DS and his friends, at 17/18, are well aware of how many older kids were recalled for Merrily and KMK, and are not counting any chickens at all.
However, to get to recall does mean you have the talent, and another year with another show you might well be cast. Hopefully, with the showcase and the workshop, plenty of those disappointed not to be cast in Armchair (the one Jordan was tweeting about) WILL be offered something good. Your DD did the showcase last year, didn't she? I'm sure you will be able to recommend it to anyone whose DC finds themselves in this position. We saw the showcase and loved it!
I'm glad to see things seem to be back to normal this year. It was always the case that the shows would be cast on the Sunday evening immediately following the recalls. I think Covid, and the storms last year, and the self-tapes, slowed everything down last year and dragged out the casting process. But I am crossing fingers that the casting is back to being based on what they saw in first rounds and had confirmed at recall.

yodaforpresident · 20/02/2023 09:34

Glad to hear that everyone had a great time - DD thoroughly enjoyed yesterday. Thanks also to everyone on the thread; as a first-timer it has been really helpful to have so
much advice from supportive people.

Alakazam8 · 20/02/2023 09:56

@Biscuitsneeded I understand all that, I was, I think intending my post to support/inform any newer members who perhaps don’t get cast that it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t reapply next year/ other years.
I would recommend anything at all that dc are offered whether cast, showcase or workshop. It is all a great experience and the transferable skills as well as the MT training is so beneficial.
Yes dd did do showcase last year and loved it! I wouldn’t see showcase or workshop as a consolation prize at all by any means and dc shouldn’t be disappointed at all if selected for one of those. Im sure this year there will be considerable competition for showcase and workshop places too due to the numbers involved.
I overheard on the recall that they have put through more this year as they had so many really good kids and couldn’t even take everyone through to recalls, when they would normally get through on a leaner year!
Having seen some of the auditionees, , particularly for armchair as we were stood next to the sign in table think they seemed to know exactly what they were looking for in terms of age, type etc so I would agree that the recalls were probably just the case of finding the best fit from a group of kids who could all do the role concerned.
The wait last year was really difficult and seemed soo long so hoping this years is shorter. (Passes round coffee and biscuits!)

minimits · 20/02/2023 10:18

Glad everyone seems to have had a good time, DS feels he did the best he could, lots and lots of talent on display! Just off to re-stock the waiting room drinks cabinet…

@Alakazam8 I know you understand. I was posting in the same spirit. People have not been cast one year and come back as leads the next. I think they recalled a lot of people this year as the standard was very high, which inevitably means there will be some disappointment, but everyone recalled should feel proud, and definitely try again another year.

wonderfullife123 · 20/02/2023 12:12

Great to hear everyone had a good experience. DD enjoyed herself at recall for the concert, however I'm trying to manage her expectations given how many were there and that all considered for the showcase. She was pleased to get a recall and felt she did her best on the day. Fingers crossed we hear one way or the other quickly.

allhailthebrain · 20/02/2023 12:52

Can someone pass the good biscuits please? I'm exhausted, what a weekend!

Fingers crossed for news soon, Jordan's post made me feel quite sick 😂

Mcmumager · 20/02/2023 13:23

Is there a team of people doing the emails do you think? They all seem to come from Jeremy- must be quite a task!
