Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

Just received this response re. concert:

Everyone recalled for one or more of our shows is also considered for the concert and the new musical workshop, as mentioned in the original results email.

Only those recalled solely for the concert need prepare for that separately.

Best wishes,
Jeremy

Hi everyone!

Question for those with Kiss Me Kate recalls: it says there is an optional tap call… My DD is a ‘dancer first’ but hasn’t done loads of tap. She’s going to practice loads this week but do you think she should go for it even though she might struggle to keep up??

Mcmumager · 13/02/2023 13:47

@dancingclassicist ive just had the same conversation with my ds about 10 minutes ago. He is definitely not a tapper but he has tap shoes and is learning now. I didn’t know whether it was worth taking them to show willing 😂😂

dancingclassicist · 13/02/2023 13:57

@Mcmumager okay glad we’re not the only ones!! She’ll probably see where she is by Friday and hope for the best. 🤣

Coniger · 13/02/2023 14:08

Has anyone heard about recalls on Sunday. Haven’t heard anything yet for DD but requested that day - thanks x

yodaforpresident · 13/02/2023 14:29

DD’s recall for the concert is on Sunday morning @Coniger - we received the email yesterday evening.

yodaforpresident · 13/02/2023 14:33

Sorry about your DS’s news @coniger - hopefully he’s not too upset about it.

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2023 14:54

@Coniger Hope it gets sorted out. My DS is there Sunday pm so if your DD is there too, they may get to say hi!

Just got all the stuff through and we are Sunday morning so maybe she will see him in changeover!

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2023 15:07

I'll tell him to look out for her!

Alakazam8 · 13/02/2023 17:34

Anyone there Sat am for changeover or 1pm for audition?

Mumster40 · 13/02/2023 17:45

My DD has a recall for KMK but has hardly any dance experience at all and certainly no tap! Im quite perplexed how she has been recalled for such a dance based show….I’m quite worried that she may be completely out of her (dance) depth….There isn’t any choreography to learn on line in prep is there?!! Help!

We’ve got our time on Sunday.

dancingclassicist · 13/02/2023 19:02

How old is your DD and when is her KMK recall? I wouldn’t worry about dance experience. Yes it is definitely the most dance-heavy show of NYMT’s season but there are plenty of roles in the show that don’t involve dance!

My DD is a stronger dancer than singer and she was in the dance ensemble of Chess last year. She said pretty much half of the dance ensemble had not a huge amount of dance experience but at the first rehearsal the choreographer had told them that they were chosen because they were good ‘storytellers’ rather than ‘dancers’. Tell your DD just to enjoy it and SMILE!!!

dancingclassicist · 13/02/2023 19:07

Oops meant to mention @Mumster40 above… ☺️

Mumster40 · 13/02/2023 19:33

@dancingclassicist Shes 13. And definitely more of a singer/ actor. She doesn’t have dance classes. She’s recalled for Armchair too so I’m hoping that might be a better fit…. So there isn’t any choreo to learn in advance that I’ve missed? Bit confused by people saying they were practicing….

dancingclassicist · 13/02/2023 20:16

@Mumster40 yes, tell her not to worry at all! Good she’s also got a recall for Armchair!! Don’t worry about people practicing, as far as I’m aware there’s no dance to learn in advance… I think me and someone else were just talking about brushing up tap skills!

Cherylf123 · 14/02/2023 15:54

Hi, I've been lurking since last year as my DD had a BYMT audition booked. Unfortunately due to the storms it was cancelled and she didn't fancy an online audition. She has an audition for BYMT this weekend, it will be her first audition for anything this big but she has performed locally in many productions.

I know last year BYMT had already advertised some of their shows but there isn't much about as yet, is that usual? Also does anyone know roughly how long they take to get back to you after the auditions?

Hoping to try for NYMT next year, we just couldnt make the auditions this year. .

Biscuitsneeded · 14/02/2023 18:47

@Cherylf123 Welcome to the waiting room. You'll find us all a little on edge this weekend and throughout next week as it's NYMT recalls, but there are some BYMT mums in the group too. Just don't be shocked by how much gin gets passed around.

Despite being Team NYMT, I do know that BYMT have a new Chief Exec, so they may be doing things a little differently this year. Normally I think they do advertise what their shows are by now, but then they add some as the months go on. Unless you are familiar with their material you won't necessarily recognise any names, as they do their own shows in some sort of rotation (some popular ones more often than others), but there's normally some sort of description of what the show is about and its style. I'm sure it will be all apparent soon, and your DD could ask that at her audition too. In past years it has seemed that BYMT start sending out results some time in early March, but they go show by show and it can take a few weeks for everyone to hear back.

Cherylf123 · 14/02/2023 18:52

Good luck to everyone for NYMT recalls, I find I'm worse than my DD when it comes to waiting.
Thank you, yes I had seen they had a new chief exec, didn't think about that. I guess we will have a fairly long wait then after her audition this weekend.

Mcmumager · 14/02/2023 19:01

Welcome @Cherylf123 . I’ve also been checking to see what shows as normally things are mainly up and advertised by now.

My ds has had two fab shows with BYMT - he loved the experience. Last year we got the offer on 11.03 so not too long to wait for her.

Good luck for the audition and happy to answer any questions.

yodaforpresident · 14/02/2023 19:06

DD auditioned for BYMT and they mentioned Romeo and Juliet as one of the shows and I think Hansel and Gretel too. DD was told start of March for any news on recalls.

Mcmumager · 14/02/2023 19:46

On the email from BYMT it said this about the shows:

The season has been chosen by the staff team together with our Young Company Panel and tells stories they believe will inspire and challenge our participants and audiences - the Panel advised us to look for shows that only young people at BYMT could create, tell epic stories, and explore ideas about their generation.

The 2023 Season will have a time span from Shakespeare to the middle of this century, stopping off at the British civil wars and early twentieth century along the way. We will be telling true historical stories of a successful girls football team and a train carriage packed with naughty children; we will be retelling Hansel and Gretel in a dystopian future and Romeo and Juliet in a dilapidated English seaside town.

yodaforpresident · 16/02/2023 13:27

So DD has a recall for the concert and workshop. However, should she get through we may have an issue with the first and last days of the training. She is part of the children’s chorus for one night in a theatre production on the first day and then the last day clashes with the start of her NYCGB Easter week. How likely are NYMT to allow her to miss some hours on the first and last days?
