Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

@Biscuitsneeded She was keen to do both and I suppose it’s good experience if nothing else. I think she was a little worried when we arrived this morning though as it was a lot busier than yesterday. Apparently she is the second youngest there….

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2023 12:22

@yodaforpresident good for your DD going for it! Don't worry - even if she is the youngest they will put them in groups according to age so she won't be in with 18 year olds! How old is she? Most kids really enjoy the day. I think there's a good chance she will come out smiling.

allhailthebrain · 05/02/2023 12:44

Recall here for Armchair

MxPickles · 05/02/2023 12:45

Its a no for us :( Well done @allhailthebrain good luck everyone else x

Alakazam8 · 05/02/2023 12:49

Recall here too- armchair and concert

Coniger · 05/02/2023 12:54

My DD is only 12 and everyone else looked much older so I think my DD will be the second youngest - don’t worry they will have an amazing time - they were great with her last year and so hopefully it will be the same x

Sorry to hear that - please tell her it doesn’t reflect how good she is - literally is because they call back specifically for different parts. Good luck for the Hammond! I’m sure she will smash it!

Thanks Coniger - We are treating this years Hammond audition as a practice run. Getting MDS funding for Yr 8 entry is apparently like hens teeth.

OT I know but I am majorly stressed because I have a PIP review next week so if that goes badly there will be no extra curricular at all for the forseeable!

yodaforpresident · 05/02/2023 13:13

@Biscuitsneeded she is 11. I am looking forward to hearing how it went.

Mcmumager · 05/02/2023 13:24

Hi there Ds recall for kiss me Kate, armchair plus the concert and workshop.

Congrsts on those recalled but those with a no it really doesn’t mean they don’t have the talent. I recommend BYMT as an alternative my DS had 2 fantastic shows with them.

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2023 14:19

Well done to all those from last weekend with recalls, and commiserations to the unsuccessful DC. As others have said, it's often about fit. Very very talented kids have been turned away from NYMT before when there just wasn't a suitable role for them, only for them to come back with a lead another year. In fact, I could name young people currently performing in the West End who have experienced exactly this.
@Mcmumager yay!! So pleased for your DS, who so deserves a lucky break this year.

dancingclassicist · 05/02/2023 15:14

Congrats to all with recalls!! And commiserations to those without - they have all done an amazing job!!

for those with recalls, are they recalling just for shows or for specific roles within the shows??

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2023 15:38

@dancingclassicist For specific shows but not for specific roles.

Montimom · 05/02/2023 15:41

Huge excitement in this house today as all three got recalls. DD1 for Merrily/Armchair, DD2 for Kiss Me Kate/Merrily and DD3 for Kiss me Kate and Armchair ❤️❤️❤️

Congrats to everyone who was successful this year and to those who weren’t don’t give up, we’ve been there too 💕 the next bit of good news is always just around the corner!!

EmsPinky · 05/02/2023 17:07

Hi my DD has had a recall for KMK and email said she will also be considered for NYMT IN CONCERT (When I Grow Up) and for a summer workshop of A NEW MUSICAL.
we are totally new to this so following now for any extra info!
Well done to everyone for just auditioning in the first place!

Montimom · 05/02/2023 18:00

Congrats @EmsPinky your DD must be thrilled. How old is she? My 16 and 13 Dd recalled for KMK too! Yes it’s great that they all still have option of concert and workshop!!

EmsPinky · 05/02/2023 18:20

Thank you @Montimom my DD is 14 and yes absolutely delighted! Congratulations right back to you! Have you done this before? I’m not sure really what happens next?

Montimom · 05/02/2023 18:28

Oh right in the middle of my two so 😂 your DD is going to love it. You will be send audition information with a day and time slot, then some material for your DD to prepare, short piece to read, song and dance for KMK. The recalls are good fun and again not pressurised or anything, they will see how they all interact with each other and your DD might be asked to prepare for a few different roles based on age usually!! Decisions usually follows within the next week via email again!! (Hope I’ve explained this well 😂

EmsPinky · 05/02/2023 18:39

Oh that’s really great, thank you! Fingers crossed they all do well!

yodaforpresident · 05/02/2023 18:44

DD thought today was amazing but very tired now!

allhailthebrain · 05/02/2023 18:52

Congrats to all with recalls and commiserations to those who didn't get one this time. It's a hard process and all those with a yes this time have definitely had a no before, so we totally understand.
Please do still hang around if you want to, all welcome x

Comefromaway · 05/02/2023 19:12

Yes just to reiterate for those new to the thread Ds applied as a musician in 2021, didn’t get in but was then offered both Asst AMD for concert and Keys2 for Chess last year. His particular skill set just wasn’t required the year before.

Welcome @EmsPinky and congratulations to your DD. She'll be sent the time and date of her recall probably next weekend, along with some materials to prepare. If one of the two recall dates isn't good for you, if you email now they can probably accommodate that, but otherwise you won't know until then whether she is recalled on Saturday or Sunday. At the recall they are grouped by the show they are recalled for (there will be several slots for each show over the weekend), but they could be in with all ages and they may well read for different parts. If there's a video of a dance to learn, do that, and swot up on the song a bit, but don't worry about learning the bits of script - reading it is fine. There probably won't be a specific recall for the showcase, but they will look at all the recallees for that, and for the workshop.

Just to say in case it's not clear, not everyone recalled will get a show. Some who don't get a show or the showcase will be asked to do the workshop (which is really worth doing) and some unfortunately won't get a place this time - but to have been recalled is a big achievement in itself.

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2023 19:30

@Comefromaway has your DS had any further thoughts? I take your point that he can be paid to play for amateur shows instead of paying himself to take part in NYMT, but if he's aiming to be an MD one day it might still be really valuable experience - and also of course hugely enjoyable!
