Hopefully this will work as we’re at 999 on the other!

It's worked!

Thanks for starting new thread.

Ds still has a few sessions available to him before 2 week shut down but his coach said he doesn't need to swim because his season is over.

He's done 2 sessions this week and missed 2. 2 more available (he says he's going this evening but we are going to beach today so he may change his mind!)

Tomorrow am and 3 am sessions next week he says he's attending (but we'll see!)

Tbh most of the swimmers he swims with are going to be in and out of English nationals as many qualified British and English or just English.

Ds qualified all his for British although he chose not to swim them all. Only one other swimmer made just British.

Personally I'm happy either way whatever he decides because I do think with all the effort and dedication all year round a few weeks break is only a good thing! He hasn't stopped eating so I'm guessing he's going through a good healing process Grin

Glittertwins · 05/08/2022 07:37

We're on holiday and DS has mainly been flying down water slides!

OP posts:
Porseb · 05/08/2022 07:57

We're on our break too - restarting 22 Aug

But DD is still going to the gym on her own

Enjoy the next few weeks before the season kicks off again!

Posting so I can find you again. DS's squad have been playing water polo this morning which I guess is kind of prep for OW Nationals as at least it teaches you to try to avoid getting drowned by your competitors 🙈

🤣🤣

Ds old club use to do some water polo. Think it was for fun but also for team building.

Glitters enjoy your holiday Grin

We are taking our canoe and dad his SUP to the beach today. My sibling and their partner are coming and so is my DN as my other sibling is working.

turkeyboots · 05/08/2022 08:33

We are dragging through the last few sessions before the break. All the Club kids have a summer fun day this weekend which DD is looking forward to and I think is a training session in disguise!

Madcats · 08/08/2022 19:07

Thank you for the new thread.

DD hasn't been near a pool for 10 days!

I'll be back to whinge in September...

Ds decided not to swim last week for rest of week as had some plans with friends and family.

So not doing the 3am sessions this week either just for the sake of it when a good proportion of his squad are at English anyway!

Hellocatshome · 09/08/2022 08:05

Does anyone have any advice re jammers and distance swims? DS is doing OW Nationals and looking likely its going to be a no wetsuits event. He has never swam distance in the pool so I have no experience of this. My question is for distance swimming is there any benefit to racing jammers over training jammers or vice versa?

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2022 08:54

Ours all wear their racing jammers/ swimsuits when not wet suit weather. But I don't know if they have separate Ow and pool ones!

I may be able to find out for you later if they have a better idea as dad is there!

Glittertwins · 09/08/2022 10:25

Seems to be a combination of both our way. Racing ones would have the advantage of better buoyancy but you might not want to damage them in a lake.

OP posts:
Hellocatshome · 09/08/2022 10:39

Thanks, I think racing jammers might be the way to go. He only has Arena 2.0s so not super compressive or anything but if they might add a bit of bouyancy that can only be a good thing.

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2022 11:25

That's what my ds had until British this year.

Shame all his have been swam to pieces rather than grown out of or I'd have passed them onto you and you could have had some older ones for the lake!

Porseb · 09/08/2022 12:36

Have you seen this and filled out the consultation?

Swim England Consultation www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4607151-swim-england-consultation?msgid=-4607151#-4607151

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2022 15:26

Yea ds and I filled ours in straight away!!!

Hellocatshome · 09/08/2022 16:15

Thanks @itsgettingweird but I think hour DD and mine may be opposite ends of the height spectrum anyway lol.

We filled out the survey when we got it emailed but it was very strangely worded and took quite a bit of explaining to a 12 year old.

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2022 16:30

They are now!!!! But mine looked about 9 until he was 14 and was tiny 🤣🤣🤣

Didn't take much input for me to discuss with my ds. Being autistic he's very black and white so it's simple in his mind!!!

Glittertwins · 09/08/2022 17:04

Yes, filled out across the family as soon as we got it.

Porseb · 10/08/2022 10:16

Is it open water nationals today? Good luck 💪🏼 🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♂️🏊🏼

Glittertwins · 10/08/2022 13:11

It is indeed. 3km starts at 1pm. Not sure about the others

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 10/08/2022 13:16

Think 5k has been completed.

Hellocatshome · 10/08/2022 20:14

Hi everyone, thank you for the good lucks for DS. So sunny at OW National I couldn't see my phone screen to reply. DS came 10th a 2 minute and a bit PB on his qualifying time and also didn't freak out about skins swimming which was the main bonus of the day.

itsgettingweird · 10/08/2022 20:37

Well done to your DS. Seems he's found a talent for this OW lark!!!!

Porseb · 11/08/2022 15:08

Well done to your DS @Hellocatshome - lovely day for the Open Water champs too
