Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ds has also eaten lots of pepperami! He eats the red ones, fire sticks and the jerky!!!

Great source of protein so I think that's kept him going!

Glittertwins · 27/07/2022 14:53

Protein load will continue later. Our two demolish biltong on a regular basis

🫣🤷‍♀️

Ds made the fly final! 3 second pb (somehow as he's absolutely exhausted!)

Didn't fluff it then??? Waiting to watch now

Glittertwins · 27/07/2022 18:17

Fantastic yet again mini @itsgettingweird

Thanks! Another slight pb.

No he didn't fluff it (surprisingly!)

He has good technique but his race stamina in fly isn't great.

I thought this would hinder him.

But what do I know?! Grin

Porseb · 28/07/2022 00:05

Well done to all swimmers who swam today and good luck to those swimming tomorrow.

DD medalled tonight - it's been a week of highs and lows.

What a week for you lot. Well done swimmers.

Then the swimming starts at Sandwell on Friday?

Yep tomorrow!!!

Ds is at work so I'm gonna do all the washing form this week and watch the commonwealth swimming!

Glittertwins · 30/07/2022 09:03

Woohoo, no more swim runs for a few weeks as club slows down for all except those doing English Nationals. Bring on the lie ins!!

itsgettingweird · 30/07/2022 10:23

Lucky you!

We are off until Monday and then it's 2 weeks of wind down and then 2 weeks off.

It'll seem like a lifetime until cycle 1 starts on 30th of august and then it'll feel like we've never been away 🤣🤷‍♀️

Glittertwins · 30/07/2022 10:33

His coach said no training for him for two weeks - total wind down :)

itsgettingweird · 30/07/2022 10:57

Yeah we have 2 weeks completely off! They have a complete shutdown.

Only 9 sessions over next 2 weeks if 1.5 hours so very easy going (and I'm happy to not attend if other plans arise Wink )

Hellocatshome · 30/07/2022 13:30

We don't get a break but have a summer timetable and DS says the sets are a lot easier. Can everyone please cross their fingers for water temps below 20 for DS in the Open Water Nationals. He has done a few skins sessions and does not like it at all!

Also while I'm here does anyone know the set up at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre. The commentators said something about one of the swimmers maybe getting to cool down in the diving pit as it was closer than the cool down pool as they had a few events in one session. How far away is the cool down pool? Surely it can't be that far away if its in the same building?

itsgettingweird · 30/07/2022 13:49

Ds swam there in May!

The cool down pool is a temporary pool within what will be the main leisure centre area (and apparently it was freezing 🤣).

So you go out next to the diving pool and it's just up a ramp.

itsgettingweird · 30/07/2022 13:50

🤞 for cool temps for ds too.

Although if he hates skins it may make him swim faster to get out quicker 🤔🤣

Hellocatshome · 30/07/2022 13:54

@itsgettingweird thank you they made it sound like it was far away which I thought couldn't be right. Our club always do 1 away gala a year (on top of regionals/nationals etc) so that everyone can experience staying away from home and swimming in an unfamiliar pool. I am going to campaign for it to be one held at Sandwell so the kids can say they have swam in the Commonwealth pool.

Thank you for crossing your fingers. It will either make him swim faster or just get out early! The coach he swam skins with yesterday said he was just too skinny to withstand the cold and he needed to eat more cake which seemed to cheer him up a bit.

Glittertwins · 30/07/2022 15:03

Good luck for the open water. We swear that our officials boil a kettle, pour it into the shallowest part of the lake and then take the temperature so that it is judged too warm for wetsuits!!

Ds did the swim England test event.

I was informed whilst there it's becoming a local leisure centre and won't be used for any club training or galas.

Seems mad to me if true but 🤷‍♀️

Oh no that seems such a waste. Surely it can be both 🤷‍♀️

Eccle80 · 30/07/2022 17:28

Well done to all the swimmers at Nationals, sounds like some great swims!

The Sandwell pool is becoming a leisure centre, but will definitely be used for club training, other Sandwell leisure centres will be closing, and three clubs have merged to become the new Sandwell Aquatic club as a result who will train at the pool once it becomes public. I don’t know about competitions but I assumed so, especially given the lack of 50m pools in the West Midlands (and I definitely hope so!)

The warm up pool (or the building I assume it is in!) looks like a temporary structure behind it. The spectator seating being used for the public will be removed and the sports hall etc for the leisure centre added there from what I have heard.

My two were lucky to get the chance to swim there a few months ago in the first test event but would love to go back for a competition in future (and are hoping our counties might move there)

Glittertwins · 30/07/2022 17:35

At least the pool is remaining , unlike the one used for the Atlanta Olympics. Coventry is the only 50m pool otherwise? Our regionals used to be held there as there was no 50m pool in the East Midlands years ago.

Eccle80 · 30/07/2022 20:35

Yes Coventry is the pool used for regionals and is a new pool that replaced the old one in the city centre. I think Birmingham Uni has a 50m pool too but I’m not aware of that getting much use for competitions

Dreikanter · 30/07/2022 21:34

As an aside, great call on the 100 BRS semi to stand down - and Peaty giving advice to Goodburn to take a breath.
