Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

OP posts:

Thank you 🙂

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 14:12

Glitter I think I remember your da is younger than mine? The 17+ and MC disability events are am and the 13-16 are pm.

Finals are all at 5pm.

Although no para swimming conditions released yet I'm confident ds will qualify for at least his 50 free.
I'm hoping all 3 freestyles because with a 10 lane pool you'd have they'd aim to have 2 full heats of para swimmers?!

Glittertwins · 14/05/2022 16:50

There were a reasonable number of para swimmers at our regionals so hopefully all will be good. Can't believe you have to wait another 2.5 weeks to find out what's going on though

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 17:20

There is a bit on the conditions saying the para swimming document will be separate.

I'm hoping they release the conditions before we log on on 3rd June to enter. I'm not sure that we are due to get an email on 16th like everyone else if he's qualified for anything?

We had 6 male para swimmers in our regionals but that wasn't all of them swimming and not all do every event. Ours also have separate MC competition but swim in the heats with able bodied swimmers. So ds was always heat 1 or 2 because it's 15 and over and generally the para swimmers were slowest. Counties was the same but he wasn't always slower than the 15yo in that.

Hellocatshome · 14/05/2022 17:31

Well DS did his first open water race today, he was frozen to the bone despite his wetsuit but swam it 10 minutes faster than he thought he had and came 3rd junior boy despite being the youngest boy so did great all things considered.

Glittertwins · 14/05/2022 18:09

Well done there @Hellocatshome!
Celebratory hot chocolate afterwards I hope?

Amazing! Go mini hello Star

Does he have a dry robe for afterwards?

My ds has one that isn't a dry robe that's shorter and shorter leaves and primark now do their own version. They seem to warm them up quite quickly as very protective from the wind and very well lined.

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 18:17

Swim England have their para times out for home nations - yay!

Ds qualifies for all 6 events he swims - he doesn't swim and wouldn't qualify if he did for 100 breastroke!

They haven't got S14 doing 100 free in nationals. (Not sure why because I thought only 50m free wasn't an S14 event)

But if that's the same for British I think he's more than likely to qualify for his 100m free too as over 10 of those above him on rankings are S14.

Can you tell it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out 🤣🤣

Hellocatshome · 14/05/2022 19:10

@Glittertwins you would think but he's an odd one and insisted on drinking a coke out the cool bag whilst shivering and turning slightly blue 🙈

@itsgettingweird he has one of the toweling dry robes and was offered a big coat a hot water bottle and a hot drink but apparently these were not required 🤷‍♀️ I've learnt not to bother arguing with him. We did have to sit with the heating on in the car despite it being about 23 degrees outside.

Glittertwins · 14/05/2022 19:20

@itsgettingweird so SE have confirmed but not BritishSwimming? What a hassle
@Hellocatshome DS here is also quite trying but he does like his hot chocolate. What was the water temp today? Can't have been that warm if wetsuits were allowed

Hellocatshome · 14/05/2022 19:23

@Glittertwins it was 13 degrees a few skins swimmers but most in wetsuits, no one else looked quite as cold as DS though but he is a bit of a wimp 🤣

He's also new to it so not quite acclimatised yet!

But sounds like this will be a great direction for him pulling that off in his first race!

Pretty much!

SE have qualifying times for para swimmers.

British - from my understanding - is done on rankings and para points and I don't think it's based on a number of accepted entries like the AB swimmers.

I know previously it's been 500 BDP (British disability points) and also 600 BDP other years from what other parents have said. But this is ds first year of being classified so I'm having to just go by snippets of information. Ds has 600/700+ points for all 3 freestyles and also ranked in top 10 for those classifications racing those distances at home nations - so I'm thinking it's quite likely he'll qualify British for those. If he doesn't it'll be interesting to see how they do it and how they plan to have heats and finals in a 10 lane pool!!!!!

Glittertwins · 14/05/2022 20:39

Everything crossed for him making it!

Porseb · 14/05/2022 21:58

Does anyone know if the British summer finals are 10 swimmers or 8 like the British Champs?

I'm sure I read 10 - but don't hold me to that because I'm questioning myself now you've asked 🤣

I remember reading it's a 10 Lane pool?

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 22:04

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 22:04

C and P from the website.

Also the relay teams that have qualified are now on the page

Porseb · 14/05/2022 22:57

Ah thanks - it was 8 in British Champs so it's good that this will be 10 so more swimmers get a final swim.

Iwantthesummersun · 15/05/2022 21:46

I’m sure I read here that some of you have electric hot plates that you use for cooking in hotels. Am I dreaming this? We are at a gala for two days this weekend. Saturday fine but my daughter is coeliac so Sunday lunch is tricky. Was thinking about getting one and booking some pasta for lunch. Am I right in thinking that it’s really just like a kettle so won’t set off smoke alarms?

Porseb · 16/05/2022 11:21

That was me - induction hob.

Open windows and door to bathroom
Boil water in kettle
Set induction hob to low and fill saucepan with water from kettle and cook pasta
You can set a lid (part closed to allow steam to escape) over saucepan

Porseb · 16/05/2022 12:10

I hate how the current app update removes all my paragraphs

Glittertwins · 16/05/2022 14:26

I'm struggling to read it on the app now the paragraphs have vanished

I'm wheat free.

I often freeze rolls and take them in a cool box for 2 days and they do well.

Or take GF wraps and chicken etc (again in cool box) and make them up.

Another idea is a 1 litre slow cooker and take the pasta already cooked and heat in sauce.
