Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

@itsgettingweird : email received lunchtime, couldn't do anything about the doping consent form until he reappeared from school. Signed off, shoved him training, sent it back and entries now done!! Now back at the pool with the other one

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 16/05/2022 19:24

What’s everyone’s plan for accommodation for British and home nations. Booked premier inn in Barnsley for British just got one day at the minute. Home nations thinking about incorporating it with our summer holidays (another year in this country)

itsgettingweird · 16/05/2022 19:37

I've reserved the days inn hotel at Sheffield for both meets.

Once I know what ds has qualified for and where (def made home nations) I'll amend as needed.

Oh yeah forgot about that!

Good news once you've done it they don't ask every time!

We are also at pool!

Mondays are his busiest day! 2 hrs morning training, the. 2 hrs evening followed by 1 he lane gym work 😳

I'm wheat free.

I often freeze rolls and take them in a cool box for 2 days and they do well.

Or take GF wraps and chicken etc (again in cool box) and make them up.

Another idea is a 1 litre slow cooker and take the pasta already cooked and heat in sauce.

Thank you. We always struggle with cooking pasta in advance. I will try tomorrow in the slow cooker!

That was me - induction hob.

Open windows and door to bathroom
Boil water in kettle
Set induction hob to low and fill saucepan with water from kettle and cook pasta
You can set a lid (part closed to allow steam to escape) over saucepan

Thanks! Hadn’t thought about windows 🥴

Porseb · 16/05/2022 22:45

I've booked one of the hotels next to pool. Going to be long week.

WidowTwonky · 16/05/2022 23:08

I live in Sheffield. Shame I can’t have you all to stay with me 😂

Glittertwins · 17/05/2022 04:53

We've done it as two separate trips because his events are so far apart. Got hotels sorted for both though

Porseb · 17/05/2022 06:38

WidowTwonky · 16/05/2022 23:08

But you can give us some restaurant recommendations for dinner - not wallet busting - more hungry swimmer, broke parent Smile

Swim parents unite 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I definitely DO NOT live anywhere near Sheffield! We are south coast!

So yes any recommendations for eating out will be great.

Ds and I are staying at the days inn in Sheffield and want to find somewhere to have a Sunday lunch as he won't be racing Sunday (if he qualifies!)

WidowTwonky · 17/05/2022 08:09

Cosmos is always popular with swimmers. It’s on the Ponds side of the city centre. But holds the dangers of the fried stuff they should probably avoid. In the same area are a few restaurants- Bills, smoke, a Chinese, nice restaurant in the winter gardens. All probably a bit much on an already expensive weekend but the options are there. Wander further into town and Leopold square has plenty more food options

itsgettingweird · 17/05/2022 21:38

Anyone else got a swimmer swimming at sandwells on Saturday?

Porseb · 17/05/2022 23:02

I know a few swimmers at it and was offered tickets but can't make it.

DoctorMartin · 18/05/2022 07:59

Yes we are there. It's going to be a loooong day!

itsgettingweird · 18/05/2022 16:05

Sure is doctor. We've a nearly 3 hours journey to get there for 7 am!!! (Then home again after)

Ds is doing the fly leg of the para medley relay 🤣🤣🤣🤣 as well as 100 free relay and 100 back/ free individual.

It's also going to be a hard day anyway. I've mentioned before my mum has cancer. She's gone downhill quickly last week and has slipped into the sleep today and will pass in the next few days. But she told ds Saturday when she was still able to communicate he's to do it as it's a great opportunity.

DoctorMartin · 18/05/2022 17:24

Oh no, that's awful @itsgettingweird, so sorry to hear that. I'm new to this thread so didn't know your situation. Sending you my deepest sympathies though Flowers

Glittertwins · 18/05/2022 18:13

Sorry to hear about your mum @itsgettingweird Flowers

itsgettingweird · 20/05/2022 11:12

Thanks everyone. Mum passed away peacefully yesterday evening.

Porseb · 20/05/2022 16:03

So sorry to hear this Flowers

Madcats · 20/05/2022 19:16

I'm so sorry to hear the news about your mum, Weird.

It will be a tricky weekend for the Weird family, but I bet your mum was so proud of your son and really hoped he'd do well.

Good luck to all swimmers this weekend.

Glittertwins · 20/05/2022 22:00

She'll be proud of her DGS @itsgettingweird Flowers

itsgettingweird · 21/05/2022 22:57

Well somehow we got through today. Left home at 4am and just home.

Ds managed to pull it out the bag somehow after a crap week and even won his final in the last and 6th race of the day!

Madcats · 22/05/2022 08:34

Congratulations, to miniweird.

The pool does look lovely in the photos I've seen.

It's wetsuit buying day for us (already had to return a couple). The old one is mostly repairs!

It is lovely.

Not very warm but it was actually nice poolside for spectators!

The cool down pool did its job the minute you got in it. Ds said it was freezing Grin
