Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

So thats our 2 weekends of regionals over. We weren't expecting any finals but DS pulled it out the bag with his last race on the last day. So lots of calling about to delay picking up our Dog from the Dog sitter and our other DS from his grandparents so he could go to his late afternoon final. Went into it 10th and finished 7th so very happy with that not least because he had the 400 free and 100 fly before this event neither of which he has swam long course before.

Now on to his first Open Water swim next weekend 🙈

For those who had regionals at Ponds Forge, where's the best hotel and parking? Looks like DS has made it for nationals in two events (which we just know will not be on consecutive days)

Brilliant - go mini glitter Star

We've reserved the days inn at Sheffield (about 15 mins drive south but we are coming up from south). I say reserved - we've reserved for all nights for British and nationals as they still haven't decided on para swimming qualifications!

I'm hoping the disabled parking is adequate? Anyone know if there is lots of space or not?

Yayyyy - well done minihello. Star

And why do they put 100 fly and 400 free at the end of the last day! They we ds races on his last day - 1/2 hr apart. His 400 wasn't his best 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Ibis and Travelodge right next to / across from pool. Paid parking.

The Premier Inn was sold out when I looked.

Thanks, will get DH on the case later today. Haven't seen the timetable so will need do go over the week.

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 15:07

Also they are all really expensive in central Sheffield that week.

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 17:33

@itsgettingweird nothing in central Sheffield. Got a booking 10 miles out, it's less distance to what we drive to for training and home meets so will be okay. Would like to see an event schedule at some point as that will play a part in event selection. Have you heard anything more on para invitations yet?

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 17:42

Nothing on para.

Swim England does have the schedule online. I'll link it here .....

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 17:47

www.swimming.org/sport/about-the-national-summer-meet/

If you scroll down this page there's a link to the pdf of summer champs schedule.

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 18:54

Thanks, that's the English one in August that I had mislaid. I'm after the July British one which is more elusive

Ahhhh - yes that one isn't released yet!

However ...... I looked back over the 2017-2019 results to see if the events were the same year on year. They were and although there's obviously no guarantee I'm guessing it'll follow the same programme this year?

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 19:29

DH said something similar about looking for previous schedules. I hate the British Swimming website so I'll probably be muttering darkly shortly!!

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 19:35

@itsgettingweird : 2019 summer British also appears to follow the British Champs in April this year too

I guess it makes sense. There's probably a set schedule for all sorts of events to space them out is a particular way? We weren't at April champs as no para swimming so it didn't occur to me to check - but does make sense to have!

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 19:39

Is your ds going to make British then?

I'm thinking my ds will for 50 free and possible for 100/400 too.

If he doesn't for 50 there won't even be a race 🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 19:41

Before I got kicked out for too many searches, he's comfortably inside top 24 in his age group on 2 events.

Yay!!!!!! That's amazing. Star

For freestyle ds is top 2, top 20 and top 10. Hence why I'm sure he'll qualify for at least 1!!!

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 20:06

That's multi class rankings because that's how they swim it.

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 20:17

He's nowhere near as comfortable as that @itsgettingweird, your DS has done very well!
Just a waiting game for us now in case there are any more meet results yet to be loaded.

IIRC they had to be uploaded today as the window ended yesterday.

I've not checked the para rankings today so ds may have been pushed down if others had yet to race! Plus you have to be creative because classifications only swim certain races. Eg for 50m free you have to take out all the S14's!

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 20:24

I just checked his other 3 events. He's top 24 for those but I'm sure they don't invite that many para swimmers to British and they often use above X number of British para points which he won't be above for the other 3!!!

Glittertwins · 09/05/2022 20:52

I wasn't sure of the deadline for uploading was. I knew the qualification window closed last night but it's reasonable to assume they'd be hot on uploads due to the quick turnaround to get the invitations issued.
He's done all he can, he did really well and we never thought he'd get medals so that's good enough for us.

itsgettingweird · 09/05/2022 20:57

It does sound like he's done amazingly.

I found it very interesting watching regionals and realising that entry times are not even a good indication of likely performance! (Accept the few every obvious outstanding talents!) especially as it became VERY clear some of the times were SC conversions!
