Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

I think boys have it easier on race suit fitting than the girls

Madcats · 02/05/2022 11:14

Weird yes we are SW. Yes I noticed there were a few para swimmers; I only remember 1 or 2 competing pre-lockdown (our Regionals split 15+ and 14&under). I think there was some confusion about medals in the earlier session, but I think they sorted it out.

Plymouth has a lovely pool.

As an aside, are any of you Team Unify gurus (or know one)? We're trying to figure out whether we can have licensed and unlicensed results in the system without messing up PBs for open meet entries.

Glittertwins · 02/05/2022 11:25

I don't think it can be done with Unify as I'm sure they use the SE rankings which only take licensed meet times. But I have seen other systems take unranked times held in a different database be used for meet entry...
Happy to be proved wrong.

Definitely (and cheaper too without the upper half of the suit!)

itsgettingweird · 02/05/2022 17:02

We're home!!!!

Tank drained quickly today as expected! Not easy to finish on 100m fly and 400m free within 35 minutes if each other 🤣🤣

First 50m of his fly was a pb - it went very downhill after that 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 he couldn't even get going on his 400 but still did a good swim. He looked and was tired though!

I know nothing about TU I'm afraid!

Ours split for able bodied swimmers but our counties and regionals multi classification is all swam open. Afaik it is at summer champs too.

They have national para juniors in June which is split age bands, swam multi class and is SC.

On his way home from an amazing race in today's favoured event. Huge PB to reach final and then beat it comprehensively again

Amazing. Well done mini glitter. Star

itsgettingweird · 02/05/2022 19:33

Yes thanks glitter he loved it. He knew it was a tall ask and is very matter of fact about these things!

He has his hoody and his medals - and smashed his 2 races he's on swim England programme for - so he's a happy 😃

Well done Glitter Jr - swimming fast in the morning and then faster in the afternoon / evening 🙌🏼

Glittertwins · 03/05/2022 11:31

Thank you both.
He watched them back on YouTube to evaluate last night, clearly still on an adrenaline high so wasn't going to bed any time soon!

Hellocatshome · 03/05/2022 14:49

Well done Mini Weird and Mini Glitter 👏

🤣🤣🤣 my ds does that too!

He noticed he glided in the end of his 100m free (he did!) and could have gone under 1 minute if he didn't (possible!)

I just tell him to take that tool and use it in his next race. Have to say the streaming is proving invaluable to the swimmers in this way!

Glittertwins · 03/05/2022 17:47

He never takes any notice of me when I say his arms aren't quite right on his fly, couldn't really deny it when he saw for himself 😉

🤣🤣🤣🤣 is he a fly swimmer primarily then?

My ds is not bad at fly but only over 50m!

How old is your ds?

But my ds is a sprint freestyler mainly!

Glittertwins · 03/05/2022 20:04

He's gone off fly although he's not that bad at it. I used to swim fly (although anything over 50m was a no go) too so I can be a bit more than an armchair critic but kids never listen to their parents!!

itsgettingweird · 06/05/2022 20:16

Anyone else got swimmers going to Sandwells for the commonwealth games test event or development camp in 2 weeks?

Madcats · 06/05/2022 20:27

Is that the swanky new Commonwealth Games pool near Brum? How exciting for your DS.

I'm mighty miffed that we've a 3-line whip for an extended family holiday when the swimming bits of The Games are on.

itsgettingweird · 06/05/2022 20:39

Yes it is!

Although the schedule for the day is hectic! Have to be at the uni for 7am. Swimmers are bussed in their teams to the pool and then parents are bussed an hour later.

Get back to uni about 7pm.

There are no cafe facilities at the pool.

So googled the nearest Tesco - 12 minutes walk away 🤣🤣🤣

We live over 2.5 hours away 🙈

Madcats · 07/05/2022 09:26

I thought about volunteering there for the games, Weird.

Looking at the map it did strike me that it wasn't easy to get to/near hotels. Perhaps they'll pop a few catering vans outside.

I would imagine for the summer games they'll have a cafe etc built?!

This is just a test event. So the swimmers are racing a programme of selected events and then there is selected finals at the end of the session.

The following day the younger programme swimmers are doing a training day there.

Glittertwins · 08/05/2022 15:24

For those who had regionals at Ponds Forge, where's the best hotel and parking? Looks like DS has made it for nationals in two events (which we just know will not be on consecutive days)

Hellocatshome · 08/05/2022 15:38

@Glittertwins the Premier Inn on Angle Street is a 5 minute walk away from Ponds Forge

Glittertwins · 08/05/2022 17:44
